Well.....I finally got to the doctor today. I had tried to make an appointment sooner but with watching the kids and all there's only certain days that I can go. We had a health fair earlier this year and it's a really good deal on getting a blood test so Glen and I have gone for the last few years. Anyway my blood test didn't come back too good so I knew that I was going to have to see the doctor. She wasn't very happy......I had to go and have another blood test.......and they took 18 vials of blood for all of the tests!!!!!!! I was worried about being light headed after they were done!!!! But I was alright!! The doctor is changing some meds......I have to start watching my blood sugar better.......lose weight.......and come back in two weeks....then another two weeks......and then every three months!!! My blood sugar is only one of the problems there are several others that are attacking me at once!!!

I also asked her to set me up a sleep test. I have sleep apnea.......and dearly hate to admit it!!! Since Glen's Mom passed away I started using her breathing maching.......reluctantly!!! I do have to admit that I've been feeling much better so I figured I might as well get the machine programed for my needs and I need a mask that fits me better.

I'm kinda' in shock about it all because I have been feeling better. This getting old is the pits!!!!!

Diana.....you do what you have to do...I can't stand the thought of anything happening to you. I wished we lived closer to each other so we could get in shape together.

That can be a shock when you are feeling good! I guess you have to follow the doctor's orders.

Keep us posted on the outcome, and follow her program!

I'm so glad that you went Diana. The effects of diabetes are often silent for a long time then problems crop up. Keeping your blood sugar under better control is a really good thing. Do you test at home? Gary has to test about 3-4 times a day and it really helps to see how well he is doing.

Please keep us posted!

Yes, I have to test 4 times a day.....but so far I keep forgeting. I should get a call to find out what my AC1 is. What I'm dealing with is more than my diabetes. The doctor said that it's like everything's been controled but is now all falling apart. A lot of it can be contributed to being overweight......so I've GOT to work on that for sure......not that it can cure everything but it can sure help.

Dae Lynn's moving in with us soon and she's talking about us dieting together and exercising together........that will really help!!

Janet, I wish that you lived closer too!!! We'd either be really good at dieting together........or talk each other into eating!!! LOL

We'd be really good at both...lololol. Guess I'm gonna have to get busy too and get my weight off.....yea right..lol. We'll see.

What's an ac1 ? There isn't anything real serious wrong is there?....I mean whatever is going on can be fixed right?

An A1C is the average of your blood sugar over the past 3 months. It tells you how well your blood sugar has been controlled in those three months. Different doctors use different numbers. Some are happy with an A1C between 6-7, but others want it below 6.

Oh my, Diana! They are telling you to do hard things! Losing weight and watching your blood sugar are not easy at all! I don't blame you for letting it go, but now you are going to have to make a real commitment to your health.

We are all here to support you!!!

Thank you, Judy.

Gayle, my doctor wants my A1C (I did it wrong before) to be below 6.5. All of the diabetic books say 6 to 7.......I guestioned her but she said that the books are all wrong!!!???? Oh well, hopefully my blood sugar won't be too bad.......we'll see!!!!

I'm sorry you didn't get good news on your check-up. They are many yummy healthy recipes. Once you start exercising and seeing results you are going to want to eat light to keep it up.

Your health is a great motivator for losing weight.

Diana, a high blood sugar can affect every part of your body. It can cause some terrible problems like loss of vision, neuropathy (numbness and pain which usually occurs in the feet), poor circulation leading to possible amputations, heart disease, and kidney failure, just to name a few.

I don't mean to scare you and I think you already knew those things could happen. But you are so young and that is why your doctor wants your A1C below 6.5, because keeping your blood sugar in good control will minimize those complications.

So, I agree with the doctor that you should try to keep the A1C below 6.5, that's good advice.

I know that you're right......it's just hard to do. When I had diabetes while I was pregnant with Jaci it was so much easier to follow the diet because I did it for Jaci......but now.....it's harder to do it for myself!!!

My A1C came back at 8.1 so I'm headed in for another blood test tomorrow for something and another test next week on something else.

The good news is......that I DID start the Adkins diet this morning. If I can get some weight off it will sure help things out!!!!

Diana, 8.1 is not terrible at all - don't worry too much. If you test more often, and watch what you eat, it will come down. If you are able to lose some weight, it will come down ever more. Some people are walking around with an A1C of 12, so you are not too far from where you need to be!

It's not easy, but it can be done. Exercise will really help too - you would be amazed at how much it lowers the blood sugar! Simply walking is great! Swimming would be great too!

I started the Adkins diet yesterday so hopefully I'll start losing weight soon. That will also help my blood sugar and other stuff. I went in and took another blood test this morning.......it made my arm ache!!! I going to go and check the pond and see if it's ready for swimming!!! I sure hope so!!!!

Diana I am sorry to hear that you have some medical concerns, but I to have faith in you and you can do it.. It is not an easy road to loss weigh but with a little willpower and lots of discipline you can do it.. You are young and just think of Glen, your children and grand kids whom all love you very much and what you to be healthy.

Once you start losing weigh it will start getting easier and try walking that is great exercise. Btw if you have a zumba class by you grab a friend and go you will have a great cardio workout and it is so much fun....

Keep us posted and we are here for you to keep you motivated...

I tried swimming a few days ago and it was still pretty cool. The top was nice and warm but a little further down........cool and once you get it stirred up it wasn't comfortable. I'm going to try it again this afternoon.......after Dae Lynn comes to get the kids. I'm so ready!!!!!

I've been testing my BS four times a day and it's been coming down......slowly!!! I'm so excited!! I think that the doctor will be really pleased. The cool thing with this diet is that I'm not starving myself.......I get to eat so much.......just not carbs.....or very many carbs!!!!! That's so cool that my BS is coming down!!!!

Yay!!! The pond is warm enough!!! We went swimming yesterday!! I just love the feeling of floating and being weightless!!!

My blood sugar is doing so much better!!! I know that the doctor is going to be pleased. I have another test coming up as soon as they call to set up an appointment then I'll see the doctor.

I finally told Glen and he's really concerned and babying me (a little bit anyway). I'm not too worried yet......we'll see what the doctor has to say first!!! The things that I'm reading on the internet are encouraging and by losing weight I can help my problems!!!

Janet.....trust me......I can float in the water for hours and not get tired!! I float so easity that there's no worries about me drowning!!! Besides....if I wait for someone to go with me then I won't hardly be able to go because everyone's so busy!!!

Trust me.......I'll let Glen baby me all he wants!!!! It's not a lot but it's enough to let me know he cares!!
