Seems like once the 26th December arrives, I start getting the cleaning bug in my head. Always thinking of where do I want to start and when, what do I want to do with the stuff I no longer need, donate it, sell it...I could always use extra money.

I just love it when my spring cleaning is all done so I hope my enthusiasm stays with me. There are just so many things I know I can do without so it's time to let those items go.

Do any of you do spring cleaning or are you one of the smart ones that keeps everything cleaned up and cleaned out all year long?

I hate cleaning too! I am sort of a pack rat I guess. I have gotten so much better though. When we moved out of the condo I had things I hadn't used in years, and I finally donated them. Then, last year, we had our first garage sale and there was a lot of stuff we decided to get rid of. Whatever didn't sell is in the basement for next year. If it doesn't sell it will be donated. Now I'm finding so many other things I just want to get rid of! I think getting rid of stuff makes me feel lighter in a way. It's simplifying my life I guess! I just find trouble getting motivated to do it lol!

That's the way it makes me feel too Lindsey. Makes me feel lighter and I love that feeling, plus the house and closets look so much better.

Like Lindsey, when we moved I got rid of so many things and I love that feeling. I don't mind gathering up things to get rid of, it's the cleaning I don't like. I do need to move all the furniture and dust/vacuum underneath. There's not too much in the closets so I guess I could straighten and and vacuum in there too. I'm talking real big since I'm still in OK and there's no chance I can actually DO the cleaning now! LOL!

I want to donate all my old christmas stuff. I'm not going to use it again, I don't think I'll ever put up the big tree again. I might keep enough stuff to decorate it, just in case. I'm even thinking of donating the little 3 foot tree and decorations I got for this year. It all cost about $25, so it will be easier to replace than to store it. LOL!

We made it to OK yesterday and had a nice visit with Gary's sisters last night. We will have Christmas dinner this evening. We only do stocking stuffers with them so it will be fun. Tomorrow we will go to the lake in southern OK and stay there a few days with Gary's aunt and uncle and then home Fri or Sat. Gary is having a terrible time with his asthma so I need to call the doctor here in a minute. I didn't bring his Prednisone with us  so I need to see if they will call in some to our Walgreens and then have the Walgreens transfer it up here. I need to find a walgreens around here and then call our walgreens. I hope it all works. We have his nebulizer and oxygen so he will be OK but he doesn't feel very good.

I'm strange I guess. I love to clean. I can take out my fustrastions (sp) out on putting some elbow grease into it. Not home right now. So i am cleaning my husbands apartment. Only took me 1/2 hour. lol

I try to spring clean and sometimes fall clean every year. I just haven't done it very well the last couple of years. With all the stuff we got from Rick's parents when they passed and now Mom's, I need to go through and get rid of some of my things that I just don't need or want anymore. I still had our big 7 foot tree in the attic so it came down and is out in the garage and we had some decent luggage up there, a huge set with some very large bags, but we haven't used them in over 20 years so I kept a couple of the small ones and took the others out to the garage. Rearranged some things in the attic and now have room for more, I just don't want more up there..lol

Sounds like a great visit with Gary's family. I know you'll be glad when you're home again.

You're not strange at all Linda...if I can have the house to myself....I love to clean too. My problem is keeping things I don't need so this year, I'm hoping to remedy that.

Mike and I took down Christmas decorations today and put them in the attic. I don't think we will put up a big tree any time soon. I cleaned out my ornaments last year, so I don't need to do that. I like to keep things cleaned out so that life is more simple. I take things to Goodwill all of the time, and right now I need to go through my clothes. Yuck!

Sheesh I hear many of you already took down Christmas decorations

I keep mine till Jan 1st (sometime a week or two longer )

I'm also a pack rat all thought not as bad as my mom. I have a huge walk in closet that is packed from top to bottom. Plus I had another small section in my bedroom done like a closet without the walls. My problem is that even my high school clothes fit. And I'm not the type that goes with what is trending so it's hard for me to throw away stuff when it still fits.

Anyone is welcome to come clean my place :D

I always keep my Christmas decorations up till the first of Jan. too Jesica. I love seeing them everyday so I want it to last as long as possible.

It's so hard for me to control my weight that I have two sizes of pants so my closet is bulging, but I do go through it pretty often and get rid of things that I don't wear. I generally only shop at Ross or discount stores online, so I don't pay a lot for my clothes and don't feel too badly about giving them away.

I usually keep my decorations up until New Years too, but I think I will be taking them down early this year. My grandma gave me SO MUCH of her decorations this year and I have everything out and it seems a little cluttered! We are going to the lake on Friday and will get back Monday, back to work Tuesday, and then that weekend my bridesmaids are coming to go dress shopping. I think it will be hectic enough without worrying about taking down Christmas stuff too!

Janet, you always amaze me at what you get done!!! Cleaning.....YUCK!!! I really need to buckle down and do some deep cleaning. All of my cabinets need to be cleaned out and stuff taken out for a garage sale.

One of our Christmas gifts was that Amy and Dae Lynn cleaned out and organized my kitchen pantry. I loved it!!! It looks so nice......of course I have trouble finding anything!!! Amy loves to organize so she's great help in things like that!!

Our tree is still up but it's coming down soon. Matter of fact....I was planning on taking ornaments off of it today and taking down the tree tomorrow. We'll see.....

Wish someone would have given be a Christmas gift of cleaning or organization. I love doing both too. I just need to get up off this fat 'you know what' of mine and get busy. I don't have to go back to the bus route until Wednesday the 4th so I have time to get alot accomplished. We'll see...at least I can mark the attic off my list.

Hey Janet, I was looking for a picture of Brooke's wedding cake for Lindsey and I swept out the dust bunnies from under the bed after I pulled out all the picture boxes. I didn't move the bed though -does that count for spring cleaning? :D I promise you though, if you hadn't started that READY TO CLEAN THREAD, I would NOT have done that.

I hope Gary feels better, Gayle!

I got rid of all kinds of clutter before I moved, but after 4 yerars, I have to go through all of the drawers, closets, etc. and redo this. I started with the pantry, and still have stuff to go through. I sold a few things on eBay, and made quite a bit of money! I think I will go through my closet soon. I have another closet in the second bedroom, so I can keep some things for when I gain weight like you do Gayle. We have some great thrift shops around, so getting rid of clothing is not a problem.

The worst room to go through is the second bedroom, which is kind of a den/'office. I have a lot to sort through there, and am not looking forward to that!
I put a lot of pictures, papers, etc. in there when I moved in, and still haven't gone into that stuff.

I have learned not to give everything I don't want away, especially to Jessie. I have found myself being sorry I didn't hang onto a few things like pictures, a couple of pieces of furniture, etc. She won't give anything back either! I have begun putting them down in the basement. There is a good change they will get some mold on them, but mold can be cleaned off, usually!~

I have planned to work on this slowly now that winter is here.

Judy, I think that I would start on the hardest room first. For me....I find that sometimes, after awhile I get burnt out by the time I get to the last part and have to keep pushing myself. Get the harder one done first and the others will seem like a piece of cake.

I have a very hard time throwing things away. They have to be unrepairable and very damage.

Any tips for that

Janet
12-30-2011, 07:46 PM
I sure don't have a tip. I tend to keep things longer than I should too. I just don't want things so packed I can't find anything. I try to go by that if I can't remember the last time I used it, it goes to a box for a garage sale. That way if I change my mind before the sale...it's still here. Most of the time though, I don't change my mind. It seems I hang on to things more with a sentimental. I really need to quit that. I have all of Rick's parents pictures and letters they wrote to each other and have all of Mom and Dad's pictures and odds and ends too. Even Mom's mother's marriage license. I just can't seem to let those kind of things go. So they are all in plastic tubs either in the attic or in the loft in the garage.

I did clean out some kitchen drawers today that hold my towels and dish clothes. I needed to separate all the ones for holidays. The drawers were just getting too full. I brought home alot of Mom's towels and knitted wash cloths she made.

Jessica, I guess you just have to really think about it and do what you feel you need to do. It's so hard for me, but I need more room.

OK Janet, you are still inspiring me. I took all the "give-away" bags to Goodwill and then swept out the garage. It still needs more work, but that's all I could muster today. We have some cabinets sitting in the middle of floor that need to be hung, but we've got to hire a handy man to do that. Maybe after the first of the year. When we get those hung, the garage will look much much better!!!

Janet

Wow Gayle....you're doing great! If I was there, I would bring my level and help hang those cabinets.
