I have taken so many pictures this year that I was wanting to put some/most on a CD/DVD but my computer was telling me that I didn't have a drive for that. Now I know that is not true. So I had to take it in so they could figure out what the problem is. I don't want to lose all the pictures in case something would happen to my computer so every so often I copy them to CD/DVD.
I am using Ricky's old laptop right now...it's smaller than mine and so hard for my fingers to find the keys.

I understand, I had to take my computer to the doc last year, but sadly it could not be saved. I hope your outcome was better than mine!
Why not copy them to a memory stick? Just don't buy the real cheap ones, I learn my lesson. There are also websites were you can save your pictures. I just can't remember the name, sorry.

I'm not really too worried...I figure if the cd/dvd drive is bad and can't be saved, then I can get an external drive, they are not expensive at all.
Jessica....I've heard that the memory sticks or flash drives don't last very long. Just wondering if you've heard that or not. I really don't know much about them at all.
Whether my computer can be fixed or not I hope it doesn't take too long to get it back. The hard drive is still good and everything works like a charm...just the cd/dvd drive that I can't 'find'. At least I have my iPad and Ricky's old laptop to use until it returns home.

That's a bummer!! I can understand though. I tried to copy off my pictures on a dvd. I was told that they can hold a lot more pictures but my computer isn't set up for that. I have the burner.......just not the software, I guess. I just decided to not do anything about it at the moment.......out of fustration!! I'm so afraid of losing my pictures because I have so many on my computer and I haven't gotten any prints from them for some time.
I hope you're able to figure something out. I'm with you in your fustration!!!

Something was wrong in the registry so it wasn't recognizing the drive. $25 later and it works like a charm so I now have all my pictures on a CD and then of course...I made a copy of the CD...lol.
Now I've deleted all the pictures off my computer (except for the rental homes) and can start over for the rest of the year. I didn't do much at all yesterday so I'm glad my day was productive in a couple different areas.

I'm so glad it didn't cost very much to get it fixed and that it didn't take long at all. You get use to a certain type computer and keyboard and it's nice to have the one that 'fits' back.

I understand. I like my computer except that the battery doesn't charge like it should. Usually it's drained but for some reason it decided to charge......you just never know when it's going to do it. In checking on the internet it's a problem that Dell had during the time I bought mine and they haven't addressed the problem. I downloaded something that kinda' helped in the sense that it charges once in a while. It's fustrating though!!

Gonna have to take this darn computer back to the dr again. I have viruses out the wazoo....lolol. I still use it, just don't send anything on it. I'll take it in on Monday so I'm not without it all weekend.
I'm thinking of looking at Mac's. I really don't know much about them except that you don't have to worry about viruses so I don't know. They are really expensive (for me) but I have some inheritance left. I wanted to use it for new flooring or a newer used car, so I don't know yet. Tired of taking it to the Dr. Any of you have Mac's?

Yep, Mac girl here and have been since 1989. Yes they are more expensive, there's no getting around that. But they are great machines. I did have a problem with my desktop last fall and had to get a new one, but it was 5 years old, so that was pretty good. My first one lasted 10 years and my laptop lasted 7 years and it wasn't broken, it just didn't have enough memory for the new operating systems and I had the max memory in it. So, it didn't break, just got outdated.
Also, I've used a Mac at my school since 1993 and I've never had one break, never ever. We get new ones periodically but they still use the old ones for students and the like. The Macs run like a charm and never get viruses. I did have someone hack my email and send out spam emails from my address, but it wasn't a virus, just someone using my email to advertise their product. All I needed was a stronger password.
Macs are incredibly easy to use, but people who are used to PCs say it takes a while to get used to them. I think Betsi went from a PC to a Mac, so maybe you could ask her about them.

Another Mac girl here! My boys and dil's all have Mac's and they insisted that I get one. I LOVE it! I have a 13 inch MacBook, the white one. It's perfect for me to hold in my lap in my recliner, lol! I have never had any trouble with it. I don't think it would be hard for you to use, especially since you have an iPad. Mine was $1000. and I have never regretted it for one second. They are SO user friendly:D

Do you like the 13 inch size the best? Right now I have a HP with a 17 inch screen and I love love love it. When I went to the Apple site, it shows just two different laptops....the MacBook Air and MacbookPro. I remember reading somewhere not to get the Air...do either of you know anything about that? What do you have and what size? I know absolutely nothing about the 'dual core' and the speeds. I don't want to spend over $1000, could a little bit, but don't really want to...lol. Do you think I should look at the 15 inch since I'm use to a 17 or I should I just get use to a 13?
Turned my laptop on this morning and it says that this version of Windows is not genuine. So...taking it in on Monday. I like typing on my laptop better than my iPad even with the keyboard. So much to think about and learn about. Not sure my brain can comprehend it enough to make a good decision.
Another question...do they have DVD/CD drives? What about USB ports? Can you use the same printers...etc?

I went from a 17 inch to a 13 inch, too. I thought I would hate it, but I love it. It's so easy to enlarge the print size, and its so light to have in my lap! It has a dvd/cd disc drive and 2 usb ports.

Thanks Betsi!!! Do you have the Macbook Air or Macbook Pro?

I just have a MacBook. I guess they don't make them any more. I'll ask my son which one he would recommend. We got him a MacBook Pro last summer. I'll see what he thinks users like you or I would need:p He'll know, he's a smart cookie!

I didn't know that either. I've been on the site, but it has so much information that you don't get it all. Does that make sense?

Michael said to get the MacBook Pro. It does have a dvd drive. Not the one that just came out with retina display, but the regular one. The Air and the NEWEST Pro don't have dvd/cd drive because something about the space and the cooling fan. They have an attachment you have to buy for a dvd. He said he wouldn't get the Pro with the retina display because they just came out and he doesn't think they have the bugs worked out yet.

Tell Michael thank you!!! I appreciate all the information. I'm going to go look at them this week, I hope.
