My daughter had a red spot on her arm last night that hurt when she rubbed her finger over it so we put some Neosporin and a Bandaid on it. This morning when she got up it was really sore and every little bit she comes in with another complaint about her arm or her hand where this bite is located. Her arm feels jittery and a while ago her fingers were hurting and she's had chills off and on all morning. I made an appointment with our doctor but we still have a couple of hours to go. I'm really worried that it could be a brown spider bite. I'll let you know when we get home how things went.

I hope she's alright!!

The only way to tell for sure what it was that bit her is to have the spider itself, wound characteristics typically aren't textbook enough to know for sure what has bitten her.

Doesn't sound like a brown recluse bite, many brown recluse bites cause just a little red mark that heals without event. The vast majority of brown recluse bites heal without severe scarring. If it were one and she had a considerable amount of venom then she'd be in intense pain right now.

But don't worry, despite popular belief it's extremely rare for people to die from spider bites, she may experience some discomfort and a bit of pain but once she gets over the initial reaction she should be fine.

I hope she's alright! Some of those bites can get very nasty! Good thinking to get it checked out right away.

Keep us posted. My prayers are with you.

The doctor didn't think that it was a spider bite. He gave her a steroid shot and come cortizone to rub on it. He said that if we have any more concerns about it to give him a call.

I was really worried because she said that her arm felt shaky like it was nervous and later on she said that her hand felt like it was asleep. Last night the spot was red like she had just been bit and it hurt to rub your finger gently over it. Today the redness was gone but it was really tender to touch.

She had something similiar to this a while back on her leg and we really kept watch on it. What ever it is she sure has a reaction to it. Last time she had it she didn't feel well for a couple of days and today was the same way.

I think that I'm going to have my husband spray the whole house, not that we're buggy but just to get rid of what ever it is.

She's still not feeling well. Her arm has been aching and her fingers have felt almost numb and last night she started getting a headache. Today she went to school and I told her if she didn't start feeling better to call me. Sure enough, she called, so while I was in town I ran her back by the doctor's office. He gave her another steroid shot in her hip and another one in her arm by the bug bite. He doesn't think that it's the bite that's causing her trouble, but it's real sore around the bite and all of her problems are in that arm, except for the headache. He did say that if it is from the bug bite she could have problems from it for a week! I feel so sorry for her. She really hurts and has been in tears ever since I brought her home. At least the weekend is coming up and she can get some rest without missing school.

Oh your poor daughter. I feel sorry for her too...I hate it when our kids cry because they are not feeling well. I'm surprised though that if he didn't really think it was because of the bite...why he went ahead and treated her for that instead of checking it out a little further.

She took a couple of ibuphrophen and took a nap and she's finally feeling better. She's acting better than she was and she says that her hand feels better.

The doctor said that to give anitvenom medicine is dangerous and could cause death just in itself so he didn't think that that was an option. He still didn't think that it was a spider bite. It's healed to where you can barely see where it was at but it's been really sore around it so I'm sure her not feeling well is because of it. I'm just relieved that she's feeling better. I'm going to have her keep taking the ibuphrophen for awhile.

Thanks guys for your concern.

I just read your post...How is your daughter doing today? I think I remember you posting about her leg..(you did right?) Have you ever had her tested for allergies? Maybe she is allergic to something that keeps biting her...My heart goes out to you...I hate it when my kids get sick...My girls are older but I still worry about them a much, if not more, than I did when they were little.....I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for asking about Jaci. It's taken a few days but she's finally feeling better. I just had her keep taking the ibuphrophen all weekend until her arm quit aching. She's been complaining about 7:00 each evening about how tired she is and so I think that she's still not quite over it. I didn't send her to school on Friday, but I think that she's ready to go back tomorrow. She really had me worried with her hand tingling and then going numb and then having a bad headache. I'm just glad that she's better.

I am glad your daughter is doing much better. Having allergies checked is a great idea. You just never for sure what they are allergic to until something happens. Is she ready to to back to school?

Is she ready to to back to school?

Health wise she's much, much better, but she's NEVER ready to go back to school!! My kids have always dreaded going to school because Mom is always home and Dad, being a farmer, is usually around a lot and there was always something going on that the kids loved to be involved in.
