On Friday, my husband and I are picking up our 8 week old black lab puppy! I am so excited!!!!! My husband has been wanting a "manly" dog for awhile now and I am happy that the time has finally come for us to get one.
So, I need help with a name! If you can't tell from Hootie & Hobbs' names, I like really unique and somewhat weird names. Any suggestions?!

Yea!!!!!! Congratulations on your new puppy!!!! I'm terrible at picking names. First daughter was 4 days old before she was named. Came us with Melissa's name the afternoon after she was born. Took about a week to name Zoe.
Hopefully others will be more help here.
Just wanted to share your joy!!!:congrats: :congrats:

Congratulations Rebecca and hubby!!! We've had a couple black labs. Their names were Gus, Rueben, and a Lab/Irish Setter mix name Samson. They are great dogs. You sure won't regret it.
Did you read in Marley and Me about the difference between the American Labs and the English Labs? Don't know if you want to get a Marley....LOL

Oh yes!!!!! EEK! We definately are getting a BRITISH lab! And the breeder had 2 puppies left and I asked if one was more laid back and he said one was DEFINATELY more laid back so that is the one we're getting!

My brother-in-law has a black lab named Onyx. It is such an appropriate name I think. Wished I would have thought of it when we had our labs. Raven is a good name for a black lab.. and I do like Marley....LOL Are there any names you've thought of yet yourself or your hubby?

My hubby likes "DALE." I like it alright, but I don't think it is unique enough. Hootie and Hobbs are SO unique, and I would really like another name just as unique as that, you know?

It's really hard to get hubby and I to agree on something. I really like these names, but of course hubby doesn't. Sigh.

He's only 8 weeks old. He will probably be bigger than your babies, but not so much at first. He'll probably grow up thinking he's a yorkie. Just wait till he's grown and he's trying to jump in your lap. :D
By the way, Dale may not be a unique name, but if your hubby likes it.....
Once you get him home, a suitable name that you both like may present itself. How about Fredrick? That's a dignified name for a dignified black dog.

I like Fredrick. I was trying to think of something dignified. Hubby likes short names, though...he prefers 1 syllabol for some odd reason.

Lamar is good!! Makes me think of Lamar Univ.
How about Beau (pron. Bo)? This is my hubby's suggestion.

If you have a favorite sport, movie, etc....pick out names you like from those venues and then wait till he gets home to see if he fits any of them. We have a friend who loves football. This Shelti would hunch down like a quarter-back all the time so they named him Payton (after Payton Manning)
A good name will come to you.....just wait and see what kind of personality he has.

I love the name Beau! But our very good friend has a black lab named Bo! :p :p :p
I thought of a super cute name last night.........ACE.
What do yall think?

I like Ace. You could put goggles and a scarf on him when you're riding in your convertable. So cool!!

I think we're going to go with Lamar. That is what my hubby REALLY wants to name him. And since this is "his" dog, I think I will just go with whatever he likes.

Our first dog was an Irish golden lab I wanted a yorkie but hubby wanted the manley dog so KIM the lab arrived and we had 16 brilliant years with him he went all over with us as hubby was in the army. His best time was in Cyprus as he loved swimming.
When he passed I got my Yorkie, now Rob has passed I thought hubby would go for another manley lab but no he wants a yorkie as I am not ready for another yet he is trying to brib me and say I can have two. So as far as he is concerned Yorkies Rule!!
P.S. What is the differance between an American and Englis Lab?

Their build for one thing, but also their temperment. Rebecca will probably be able to tell you more when she is on.

American Labradors are smaller and skinnier and are bred for hunting purposes. Because they are hunters, they tend to be more hyper and wound up. Here is a pciture:

British/English Labradors are generally bred for showing purposes. You will not see an American Labrador in a dog show...only British ones. Because they are not "hunters," they tend to be more laid back. They are much more stout than American Labradors. Here is a picture:

Thanks for that Rebeca my lab was certainly an English one like your picture but more golden. Had such a good temperment he was 8 when my son was born, I was a little worried how he would take to a baby but they turned out to be the best of pals if I let him cry our dog would come and paw me until I went to pick him up. :)

AWWWW! That is the sweetest thing, ever! I am reading Marley & Me right now and Marley was so good with the couple's children. I hope my little puppy is as good to my yorkies as yours was to your son!

I am sure he will be, we also brought a kitten in to the house and they ended up sleeping together for years, used to have to keep the cat in the house when we took the dog for a walk or he would come to.
