Now I know I'm not suppose to weigh myself everyday, but it's like an obsession. I weighed myself this morning and the scale said 230 lbs. That's down from 238 lbs. I know it's mostly water loss and that's okay, just as long as it's coming off.

I haven't started any "official diet" like Weight Watchers or any others yet, I've just started eating healthier, no sweets, no pop, and lots of water. Only thing is, right now I'm starving. I have supper on the stove now and will just eat a normal size portion and no seconds. I'm gonna have to drink a bunch of water right before supper or I'm sure I'll overeat. I don't like feeling so hungry I shake.

Janet,

Have you tried eating smaller portions more often. I know that helps me.
I know your going to say you don't have a weight problem but I feel for you.
I don't like it when i gain weight and I DO>.... Carrots any veggies or fruits.
Like the fruit cups. Those are great to snack on.
Congrats on the lose of weight. Keep up the good work.
I know you can do it.

Thanks Linda! No, I haven't really tried that yet, so maybe I should so I'm not so hungry at the evening meal. Today for breakfast I had a mini whole grain bagel with FF creme cheese. Not much, I spread it on really thin just for taste. I had a few almonds mid morning, then at lunch I ate a turkey sandwich with whole grain wheat bread, a FF cheese stick and a WW cake (they are small). I needed to get rid of my choc. craving and it worked. Then I didn't have anything all afternoon except water. For supper I had a palm size piece of round steak, 1 tablespoon of garlic mashed pototes, some fruit and lima beans. I'll continue drinking water till bedtime.

I hope I'm not cutting out too much too quick for me. I need to lose a bunch as you can tell, so maybe the fruit (although I only like bananas and apples...LOL) will tide me over between meals.

TIP: Fruit is naturally sweet but when it is digested it becomes sugar in the blood stream hence slow weight loss..... try to stay away from fruits and nuts til you get closer to your goal... on the other hand CONGRATS!!! hey 8 lbs is awesome!!!q

I have a question: I know oatmeal is suppose to be really good for you. I don't like regular oatmeal, so I was wondering if like the Quaker Maple Syrup and Brown Sugar Oatmeal would be just as good? I tried some this morning and it was good, but couldn't eat all of it. It comes in small packets. Says on the box all the benefits of oatmeal....does it have to be plain?

I looked at all the Oatmeal trying to decide which to buy, but didn't see the Weight Control, I'll have to look again. I'm not big on the cinnamin, so maybe the banana. Thanks.

Congrats! I know how hard it is to loose weight. You deserve a round of applause. I do not like oatmeal myself. But the girl I work with eats the weight control one. It smells so good. It makes me hungry when she cooks it. I tried it one day, yuck. But remember I do not like any kind of oatmeal. If you like oatmeal, you might want to give it a try.

That's great!!!! Eight pounds is alot! Have you tried picking up 8 lbs of sugar at the grocery store?! Way to go! As soon as I get done with this job I'm going to get more serious about losing weight too. They keep bringing in doughnuts and my will power is very low when it comes to doughnuts. I keep telling my self "NO" but it doesn't always work!

Janet , first I want to say great job  I myself have lost about 4lbs. and I have joined a gym and eat healthier. I had posted about the weight control oatmeal that Cindy posted. I like the banana nut. It is great they have all flavors, I mentioned in the other post that my dr. said do not microwave the water, boil it , if not it loses all the nutirents. I try to eat oatmeal every other day, for my total chosterol is a little high and he told me that eating oatmeal helps reduce it. When I eat the oatmeal it does fill me up until lunch and sometime even later. If I can help you with any questions, pm me ..

Yes I saw the thread about boiling the water. I think the oatmeal tastes bad with water, so I've been using 2% milk (on the stove). It does stay with you longer that's for sure, don't feel near as hungry at lunch like I did.

Janet - that is awesome about your weight loss. I havent been as diciplined with my healthier living styles as i should be. I need to surely get back on track.

I asked my friend to join Weight Watches with me but she said she wasn't ready for that sort of commitment yet. Bummer...I didn't want to do it alone.

Thanks Sheryl, I must really want to lose it this time, because I have been doing really good. The only thing I am doing is no white stuff, limit even my whole grain bread, simple servings (so I can at least have a bite or two of everything), no bigger than palm size of meat, drinking lots of water. Making sure I eat 3 meals a day at approx. the same time (so I don't get the starved feeling) and as suggested in an earlier post, having a snack between meals. Usually an apple, banana, rice cake or a WW cake. I don't eat anything after 7:00 PM. Just water. So far it's been working. The first day or two I was sooo hungry, but I just kept drinking the water. Now, I don't have that feeling. It's pretty nice! I just pray everynight that I can do the same thing tomorrow.

I think the hardest thing about losing weight is I want to lose it TODAY!! It's hard waiting for results, but I can tell my stomach as shrunk some. It feels tighter or something. Wish it looked like it feels...LOL

Now if I can just get my big butt on the treadmill I know I will be able to tell a difference a lot sooner. I just haven't gotten there yet. I keep telling myself....one day at a time.....one day at a time. :)

Don't worry, I am eating everything I like except for the white stuff and pop and I did cut out all the sweets except for WW cakes. I eat one of them a day to curb my chock cravings. I eat a good healthy breakfast too. I'm just eating normal size helpings and then stop. I've also been drinking a lot of water.

I'm still losing...so far. This morning I'm at 226 lbs, down from 238 lbs. I stayed at 227 for a few days, but just kept doing what I'm doing and this morning it was 226.

I have been eating oatmeal, never liked it much, but since it's suppose to be good for you I thought I would force myself. I just can eat more than half a bowl. I just don't like it, no matter how hard I try. I tried eating like a scrambled egg one day and then oatmeal the next, and then something else the next day. I just don't like this stuff. I will continue to try and eat it, but YUK!! I just hate wasting money.

As of this morning, 2 more lbs are gone. Now at 224. I know I should only weigh once a week instead of boring you all every couple days, but I need to make sure the lbs are going down and not up. I want this so bad.... my first goal is to break 200 lbs. Then I'll set another.:)

Thanks Marilyn.

I'm not quite sure what I may be doing wrong. I haven't changed my eating habits since cutting back on everything. I felt great at first and no hunger pains at all. For the last couple of days...I've felt hungry ALOT! I'm still eating good healthy meals, no less than when I first started, but I'm tired of being hungry after a couple of days. NO I'm not going to overeat, but I need this feeling to go away.

After typing this, I think I may know a little why, I don't think I've been drinking as much water the last couple of days. I'm going to increase my water to at least 6 bottles a day and see if that helps. I was drinking 6 or 7 bottles a day, but realized I haven't been drinking that much for the past 2 or 3 days.

I'm still stuck at 224 lbs, have been here since the 3rd. Hopefully it will start coming off again...drat...I want this so bad. I still haven't gotten on the treadmill yet. Guess I need to start burning more calories. I just don't like exercisng that well. I'd rather work hard at manual labor than exercise. Guess I'll try to start on the treadmill this weekend after the Indy Winter Classic Dog Show.

Maybe walking all over at the dog show will help push me over this little plateau.

Marilyn
02-09-2007, 04:58 AM
Janet, it doesn't take but 20 - 30 minutes a day or even every other day on the treadmill to start to make a difference. Then you build up and can do more. It may be just what you need to get off you plateau. Those plateaus can be killers on the willpower. Please keep it up. You're on the right track to a healther, longer living you!!!!

We need to figure out a way to attach a laptop to a treadmill!!!! :p :p :p

Janet your doing great!!  If I remember correctly you ordered the best life diet book, Oprah Winfreys trainer wrote the book. I have brought it and have started reading it myself it is excellent he gives good advice, if you have it and haven't read it .. do so now. secondly, do not weigh yourself every day , he tells you in the book not to. I weigh myself once a week, and that is too much. The scale fluxuates and you lose water at the start of changing your eating habits. I can't stress enough if you have the book read it, and incorparate excersise into your life. Whether its walking or the threadmill do it for at least three x s a week. That is sufficent, I lost 5 pds. due to my dizziness I had stopped going to the gym, but I will resume on Monday. I cheated these last few days, but so what I will start again, you cant punish yourself if you indulge every so often..

Janet

I haven't bought the book yet, just read some on the web site. I will have to go get the book for sure. Thanks.

It's hard for me not to weigh myself everyday. It's such a a habit now. Once I got this heavy, I didn't want to gain anymore, so I would weigh everyday to make sure it didn't happen. It's so funny, that I didn't notice gaining weight. I think that's why I got in the habit of weighing everyday. I'm not letting weight gain go unnoticed again.:)

I've lost a total of 16 lbs now. I wish it would come off a little bit faster. I started at 238 lbs and then got down to 224 and stayed there for quite a while. Now I'm at 222 lbs. Only two more lbs till I get to my first goal. Then I'll set another.

I'm embarassed to say, but I still haven't gotten on the treadmill yet. I know it would come off faster if I did. But with getting things done during the day, playing with the babies and being on here and YT, the rest of the day just gets away. I KNOW!! I KNOW!! it's just an excuse. I need to get on the treadmill as soon as I get home from the bus route, but I don't. I need to and hopefully I will............soon.....LOL:)

This is totally sucking BIG TIME!!!! I keep bouncing back and forth between 222 and 224. I can't seem to get out of this little rut. I was outside a lot this weekend digging out snow again and did some other work type activity outside, you'd think I burnt a few calories, but obviously not!. I can't cut back anymore eating than I've done. I'm eating healthy foods, but just not able to lose past this. I will continue though, I'm not giving up. It's just so frustrating.

Janet, As they say "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day". There are a few things to check for when one finds to be "staggering" on the same weight or fluctuating between a pound or two.

One is are you intaking more sodium (salt) than normal?

Are you drinking enough water?

Have you gone to the bathroom regulary (moving the bowels)

Are you eating enough? (this is a biggy. If your body finds that since your diet it isn't receiving enough, it will hang onto what it does have. You might find you actually need to eat another small healthy meal inbetween the one's you already are eating. I've been getting those Special K protein waters and they are really good. They satisfy that feeling of inbetween meals, my body doesn't feel like it's starving because there is protein in it...

Another is don't get discouraged. In a day or so you might get on that scale and find you've lost another 5 lbs.

You've been doing really well with your diet, keep praising yourself. Don't forget to reward your dedication and weight loss. It's important to do that. ;)

Janet

I really think you're right, Sheryl. I don't think I'm eating enough. I know when I've eaten a bigger meal, I lose weight. I'm gonna try smaller meals throughout the day. I'm tired of feeling hungry a lot of the time.
