"President Bush will send Congress a $2.9 trillion spending request Monday that seeks billions of dollars more to fight the Iraq war and tries to restrain the spiraling cost of the government's big health care programs.

Democrats charged that Bush wants to make painful cuts across a wide swath of government programs to protect his tax cuts and to keep funneling money to the unpopular Iraq war.

"It just gives you sticker shock. Every time you turn around it's another $100 billion," Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, a Democrat from North Dakota, said of Bush's war spending."

I'm afraid money is being taken away from people in this country to fight a war that may have started with good intentions but is now going no where. Over 1000 Iraqi's killed each other last week. How can we now stop such a deadly civil war? I'm very concerned about the debt our children will have to pay. We're borrowing money all over the world to keep this going.

This is a minefield question but my initial thought is at least our children will have a debt, for those in Iraq if we pull out will not have a life. Will spend more time thinking about this.

This scares me to death!! We really can't afford to lose any more troops. I don't want more to go over there, but if we don't the civil war will worsen and then IRAN will step in. BIG TIME TROUBLE!

I read in the newspaper that a journalist wanted to have her story told, but no one will publish it. She said when she was in Iraq, the people are blaming the U.S. for the civil war and that we made it worse. All other newspapers say they want us there and need us. What and who do we believe.

We can't afford any more cuts in our programs to fund a war. It's just too scary and really hard for me to come to a conclusion, because they don't tell us everything and what they do tell us seem to be half truths.

I know, it's not all about money, there are moral issues as well, however, Bush has spent more money than all the other presidents combined. And...what happened to Iraqi money financing the war??? I remember just before we invaded Iraq, to find the WMD's, politicians were saying that we would not have to finance this war, the Iraqi oil would cover the cost. That was the same time they were telling us that we would Shock and Awe them and the war might be as short as three days.

I'm sorry, but I think we are the ones who got Shocked and Awed. Us and the poor Iraqi's who are trying to work with us over there.

All most of the people on the streets in Iraq or Iran want is peace and to earn a living and raise a family just like we do. It's so sad that their leaders and the fanatic elements have made such a mess of things.
