My Mom called yesterday and told me she had gone to the Dr. about her ear. A few months before she went to Florida (she'll be home in April) she had what her Dr thought was an ear infection and gave her antibiotics for it. It didn't help, so he gave her a different kind to take. Well she went to Florida the first weekend in January and she still can't hear out of it. She said it is so irritating and feels like there is cotton in it all the time.

The Dr. she saw in Florida did an MRI and told her it looks clear and open....it's just that the nerve has died. She's 83 and was very upset knowing it probably won't get better. It makes her very nervous.

I just feel so bad for her. It has got to be awful growing older and losing different functions and then knowing it's because of you aging. I am happy that she is faithful, I told her she just needs to lean on her faith more at this time.

Nope, just a 2-hour delay.

Janet sorry to hear that your mother in having problems with her ear. You are right it is awful getting old , I took care of elderly sick parents and it was heartbreaking. Thank the Lord that at 83 your mom is still able to do for herself and she must be a young 80+. Hopefully her hearing doesn't suffer much and that is the worst that will happen to her.. My dad and his family were hard of hearing, I remember growing up as a kid my mother always being so loud when talking, then I realized later on why.

I hope she is feeling better soon.

Janet, I'm sorry your Moms hearing is going. Aging can be a dirty trick sometimes.
I hope she's able to keep the hearing in her other ear at least!

Thanks ladies!! I appreciate your kind thoughts so much. We are all going to be there one day, hopefully with most of our functions intact. I just feel bad for her..she is the one I wrote about losing blood all the time. We now don't think she is losing blood, just not producing enough. So with the hearing loss in one ear another thing to worry about, she feels like bad health is gaining up on her.

Janet, so sorry to hear about your mom. Hope the nerve problem will be limited to the one ear & leave the other alone. It is sad to see the decline of age. For over 80 though, it does sound like she is doing very well getting around like she does.

Outside of the not producing enough blood and the nerve dying in one ear, she is in great shape for 83 years old. I just hate that she has to go through this. Even though we are not as close as I wish we were, I do love her and don't want anything to happen to her. I hope she can gain the strength to just keep moving on.
