If you had an extra $5k laying around, which room would you redo? I'm faced with redoing the kitchen (new appliances, new countertops/sink and repainting/staining the cabinets) or the bathroom (new toilets, new countertops/sink)?
OOOOR, which room would you choose and how would you redo it?

If you don't need any other new furniture, go for the kitchen, after all, YOU have to work in there :D

We just redid our kitchen a few years back in oak. We also put in all oak woodwork and doors. If I had the extra money, I would move my kitchen to where the living room is and make our family room huge. I would also enclose our front porch so we could sit out there of an evening without the bugs.

I would re-do my kitchen - cabinets are find, just in dire need of new flooring and hardware. So - in doing that, I'd have a little money left over to put towards my bathroom.

Kitchens and bathrooms are your best bet as far as resale value goes, so either one would get you a good return for your money. I'd say go for the kitchen first, though. That's where you spend more time and what more people visiting you would see.
My kitchen was all new when we bought our house 5 years ago (the house was built in '77) so I need to get the bathrooms re-done. It's such a daunting task, I don't even want to think about it. I don't even know where to begin.
And here you are plowing ahead after just getting your floors done... My hat's off to you, girlfriend!!!

If both of them need remodeling, I would DEFINATELY do the kitchen. You spend more time in there and when you have company over, they will spend more time in there, too.

I always love looking at make over pics of kitchens. To me the kitchen has the most personality.
Our house is newer so we are not faced with any remodeling needs as of yet. However we do need new carpet. (Yorkies)
Kimberley, I think you'd get more out of a new kitchen first. It's exciting to see all the new stuff! :p

Very pretty Amber. I love bright colors. I had my kitchen done in an orange, but repainted. It was very pretty in the daytime, but at night I felt like I was in a pumpkin...LOL

I love bold colors! In our other house we painted the living a deep burgandy with bright while moldings. I can't do it in my new house because it would be too much.

your kitchen is the same exact color as my bedroom!!! i love bright colors too....who wants to look at plain old beige walls all damn year! me and my mil always fight(play fight) over my crazy color schemes....i have a leather couch on layaway(double recliner-it's so cool) and i want to paint my living room a bright aquamarine blue to offset the leather and i think it will look awesome. plus i am getting new hardwood floors put in before the next year is out...i can't wait. i just painted my bathroom blue parrot-it's kind off a bright blue but it really makes the room look bigger. my daughter's room is painted turquoise blue with orange accents and we painted the ceiling and floor a dark ocean blue- the ceiling is a little darker than the floor and we are having orange carpet installed-it's an ocean theme in there dolphins and tropical fish...it's bright and crazy but that is what they wanted...now i'm tryin to think of what crazy color to paint the kitchen and dining room. so let me know if you have any crazy colors!!!:D

I'm another one that loves color. My guest bedroom is a deep navy with elaborate white moldings. My dining room is the color of peanut butter, and my kitchen is a peachy color with a terra cotta glaze over it. My hubby's bathroom (2 rooms) is all turquoise in the shower/toilet room and in the main room I glazed over it with a bright blue removing some of the glaze with the bubbles on bubble wrap so it has a really cool texture.
I'm really into the glazes. You can either brighten or subdue a color with them and add texture. Tomorrow when it's brighter I'll take some pictures.
