Needing Some Advice!

I absolutely love my Yorkies and the whole breeding process. I would like to really improve my lines and I have an opportunity to do so. Thing is, if I was to get this little girl that I am considering, she will be coming from a breeder that most on YT don't care for and wouldn't give the time of day. That in itself makes me nervous. If I was to get this girl, I'm worried that they will start linking me to her and that is not the case. I don't know her, only by reputation. Maybe I've answered my own question....maybe I just better pass....ya think?

Could you not find a little girl from else where or are breeders short in your area?

There are not many with show quality. This girl has some excellent lines and her father is CH sired. I'm just thinking maybe with this ladies rep. that I should pass, because as soon as I would get her, I would want to post and then people would ask where I got her. I don't lie.....but I wouldn't want them to know either.

Having lost my Rob at three from health problems that could have been avoided but for bad breeding if you feel this breeder's lines are not the best avoid, but if her lines are good and its just a case of people not likeing her then go for it. I do wish I had known more about breeds when I got Rob I am afraid I rushed into getting him as I was afraid my hubby would change his mind however we loved him to bits and am glad he came to us but next time I will study more into lines.

Maybe you could just skip over the posts that ask where you got her? It seems like a good opportunity for you. Is there a reason she has a bad rep (like mean to the dogs or something) or is it just that people don't like her? Cause I'm sure in the competitive world of breeding and showing, it wouldn't be far-fetched for people to make up rumors about others.

I'd say go with your gut, but I don't think a reputation is necessarily the most important thing. Maybe you could do your own investigation and then decide.

Now if you really want this baby, why in the world would you let the oppertunity pass by? For the need of other people? Again, im on neutral ground here, and dont have a clue.
But in my opinion, would others come to you and ask for your "go ahead" before they make decisions?
I know there are confusing breeding discussions on YT, but i am sure people over there do look at both sides of the fence.

Oh, I've investigated, believe me. I'm so into wanting to improve my lines that I won't just purchase anything. I'm learning more and more everyday. Her reputation is she's done some underhanded things. I just don't know. I think I will go and see the puppy and parents in person and then just come right out and ask about the things I'm concerned about. I don't see any other way to come to a definite conclusion.

That first line sounded horrible, I'm sorry. I don't 'just anything', it's just that maybe some day in the future, like retirement (?) I may want to get involved with showing and I'd love to be able to show one I've bred. I'd have more time to do some traveling then, and it is something I'm interested in. I just don't want to start off on the wrong foot, although by then, maybe her reputation would be forgotten.

That would probably be best. This is a tough situation. You don't want to pass up an opportunity (especially if there really isn't a problem with the breeder) but you don't want to make a mistake with something so important to you. I think the breeder's side of the story will be a lot of help to you in making your decision. Good luck, girl! And remember, if it doesn't work out this time with this breeder and puppy, your perfect little (show quality) girl will still be out there waiting for you to come and get her! :)

Yes there is reason, I know she has done some underhanded things in her breeding practices. I won't post about this on YT and I won't ever mention who I'm writing about. It wouldn't be fair to her and I just don't do that. I was mostly concerned that if I wanted to show in the future and since most of the show breeders know her and her lines...I was afraid that I would be, how should I put this.......guilty by association. Not a good way to start out... I'll just have to do some more thinking about this. It's not like I couldn't find another breeder with quality lines, just probably not real soon.

I agree w/ Mandy on this. Don't rush into anything. This is a lifetime commitment here. If you read over the posts on YT and see a red flag then investigate on your own. Ask questions, spend sometime interviewing other breeders, and go w/ your gut.

I believe the most important thing is to do your research as much as you can. There are a lot of reputable breeders out there who will take the time to tell you all that's involved about good lines and everything else inbetween.

After doing your research you might find that this isn't something that you really feel you want to do anyway. Remain objective to everything and good luck.

After much soul searching and more investigating, I've decided to pass on this puppy. I emailed the breeder and I was right in my decision. She didn't sound none too happy. I've had people call and show much interest in my puppies and then decide to go elsewhere....that's okay....and it doesn't upset me. I always wish them the best with their new baby...but it was obvious this breeder was ticked. So...I definitely made the right decision.

I am thrilled that so soon I have found another breeder....great recommendations and wonderful lines. Her litter is expected end of this month, first of next and well, when they are ready to go to their forever homes, it will be perfect timing. IF hubby has to have back surgery, getting a new puppy at this time would only add to the stress. So...toward the end of summer will work out great. I know things happen for a reason and this is truly a case of when one door closes another will open. Now I will OBSESS and go nuts waiting for time to pass. Sure hope she will have a couple of females to chose between...

As you mentioned, everything happens for a reason Janet. Don't fret over the breeder being upset, as long as you feel you made a wise decision that's what matters. :cool:

I could only imagine how difficult it might be finding everything you want in a pup that you plan on using for breeding. There's sooo much involved and I can only imagine the half of it I am sure. :confused:

It will be exciting to see if she has the females you are wanting. Nothing like playing the "waiting game" huh? :p

Janet, I'm jumping in here rather late, but want to let you know I think you made the right choice. Enough can go wrong without knowingly starting out with worries over who you're dealing with. It's sad that some people don't play on the straight and narrow, so end up alienating themselves from the rest, but anytime you're in a business those are the people you really do need to avoid. Guilt by association is VERY hard to disprove, so you're wise to not even go there.

The one I've decided to go with is about a 5 hour drive, but it's worth it when I'm sure in my choice. I'm excited, but know I have to wait. Who knows...there may not be any females delivered....

I agree. Five hours of driving is nothing when it means you get to have peace of mind and a good start to your showing career! :) I'm glad you are happy with you decision and I can't wait to see your new little one this summer!!!

Just wanted to say that I agree that you made a good decision. Somehow I missed this thread earlier, so, I'm jumping in late, also. Getting a new female for breeding to improve your lines is something you need to be very sure about. If the other breeder has done some underhanded things, how can you be sure you are getting what you think you are getting. The sire may not even be who she says it is.

exactly!!! Congrats on standing by your feeling on the first breeder & finding the second that seems like a much better choice. I hope all goes smoothly for you :D
