View Full Version : Obsessed
I tend to obsess about things that are going on in my life. Right now it's the job that I interviewed for this morning. Last week it was the guy who drove into our house. The week before it was getting out of the bank job gracefully. See a pattern here?
Am I alone in this?
Do you obsess over things to the point of having trouble focussing on other things too?
What kind of things get you obsessing?

Tink yes, i do the same. I tend to obsess about things going on in my life, which makes it harder to focus on other things.
While my son's health is not what it should be, and him having to keep going back for tests is something i obsess about.
Last year when my husband was ill, i couldnt focus on much else.
When one of my fur kids are sick i stay up all night to make sure they are ok.
The way i am trying to change my habit is to visualise my life the way i want it to be, so instead of focussing on the "troubled" areas, i try to look beyond it, and live the way i would without all the "drama"
I have found that, if i focus on the not so good parts, i feel that im feeding those areas.
Dont know if that makes sense

I don't think I really obsess about anything, but I do let things get to me sometimes. I can usually get over it, but no always.
I was kind of obsessed about getting the kids home today so I could start my vacation, but it wasn't on my mind constantly. I didn't answer that very well now did I????:D

I definitely stress about EVERYTHING in my life. If even the smallest thing is wrong, I worry about it constantly until it is resolved. That's why I hate arguing so much. It consumes my life and my thoughts. I get that way with school and work too or anything really.
I wish I didn't do this, but it's just a part of who I am I think. I try to keep it under control...and I fail. LOL! Anyway, you are NOT alone! :)

Oh, yes, I can relate. This probably should be in the vent forum, but you asked, so here goes.........Right now, it seems like there is so much to obsess about. We were extremely short handed this week. One of our inside guys took an extra week off for spring break unexpectedly (was late on Monday and just called in) and left us to handle a bunch of rushs and do month end without him. (Our fiscal month ended today.) The other inside guy's grandmother passed away on Monday evening and he had to take off, so my BOSS had to come down and help fill in for them. We have two inside salesmen at out branch, and they both were gone. That's stressful, and the guy who took the extra week had said that if we need him to just call, and he would fly back. On Wednesday I called him and said the the other guys grandmother passed away, and we need you to come back. He had the nerve to say okay, "Buy me a plane ticket and I'll fly back." I could not believe the nerve of him!!!! He said if the company wanted him back, we could pay!!!! Of course we won't, and this is why the boss had to come down. He, Boss, was not happy about the situation at all!!! If I could, I'd fire the guy, or at least give him a few more days off without pay but we work for a huge corporation, and it's not so easy.
Our dogs were sick last week throwing up. They were eating Nutro Natural Choice dry kibble, which is not recalled, but when I changed them to Royal Canin Yorkie, everyone got well and are much more active. I really believe their food was contaminated, no matter what anyone else says, so I'm obsessing over that.
We've been trying to sell some land that I grew up on. It's been in my family for several generations, and selling it is heart wrenching, but actually makes sense. If we don't sell, the state will probably confiscate it to build the Trans Texas Corridor, and if we do sell, we will be raising the property values in the area and helping all our other family members when the state does come calling. We can use the money to buy other property in a better location, so it all make sense, but it was hard to put the property up for sale. The sign has been up for several months, and we have had many calls, but no takers, until today. Hubby called this afternoon. We have a buyer. Our prayers may have been answered, but my emotions are very mixed. It's hard to let go and I'm about to cry again.
Hubby is having a really tough time with some work things, too, and that's something we are both obsessing over.
I'm decorating a house for him for a Parade of Homes that's coming up, so that's stressful and worth obessing over.
We're trying to plan the vacation of a lifetime, with so little spare time to do anything.
There's other stuff, too, but I'm rambling on and probably no one will read this long post anyway.
Sorry, I just had to get some of this off my chest. :confuse2:

I obsess about things and have a hard time letting go of things. I need to learn to move on and let go of what bothers me or speak out!

What is the Trans Texas Corridor?
Here's a link to the TTC website:
http://www.keeptexasmoving.org/
As envisioned, each route will include:
separate lanes for passenger vehicles and large trucks
freight railways
high-speed commuter railways
infrastructure for utilities including water lines, oil and gas pipelines, and transmission lines for electricity, broadband and other telecommunications servicesWe're in the I-69 study area, south of Houston.
http://www.keeptexasmoving.org/publications/files/ReasonableCorridors_Approved_noPrelim11x17_postPM_ 150dpi.pdf
They are telling us that the corridor will require a 1/4 mile+ wide swath of land. It will be a toll road built and maintained by a company in Spain.
Here's more info if you are interested:
http://www.corridorwatch.org/ttc_2007/CW00000092.htm
There are several groups opposing this corridor. I've heard, but don't know for sure that the toll to drive from San Antonio to Laredo would be around $60.

oh I am with you. I obess about EVERYTHING. One of the main ones being "why can't I keep my house perfect?". I scrub all day. Hubby & kids come home & have it a mess again in 5 seconds. Another being the order I eat M&M's in. I have to eat each handful by color. Green first, then yellow, orange, blue, red & brown last. Hubby messed up my order once & I actually felt sick at my stomach and could not eat anymore. I know...I'm nuts... lol :o

Tink - You have some HUGE situations in your life going on. So you being preoccupied is so not abnormal. Rest your heart girl and you might say I am crazy when I say this but...."Give those thoughts you obsess about to the universe and let it take care of it".
I am sure you went into that interview realizing you are qualified for this job, deserve it, and want it. Your positive energy more than likely was picked up on by the gentleman who interviewed you.
And the neighbor young man who crashed into your home I feel was for a very good reason. You helped him tremendously and lead him into seeking help. No real harm was done physically to any of you and the results to this man are going to be life changing. You deserve such a big hug for how you handled it all. (I will never forget that thread you sent out talking about it)
And yes, I too have obsessed about certain situations. Mandy clearly can hold up a big flag saying "Yes she has, OMG it drove me insane constantly hearing about it!!"
So rest your heart and mediate on some things that bring you peace and relaxation. ;)
I forgot to add. You leaving your employment at the bank was a great move!! You should be very excited about that closure in your life. You leaving has opened up some great doors for you!!

Oh, Tink, Sheryl is so right!!! You have this great opportunity now, and just think, you wouldn't be where you are now if you were still at the bank!!!
You are definitely on the upward track!!!!
Thanks all. I'm not glad that you all deal with this too, but it is nice not to feel like I'm ALL alone in this!
I have a tough time relaxing, because it seems I always have something I'm obsessing over. One thing is resolved just to have another start. That is a good day... if one HAS resolved before another starts! ;) It seems the rest of you have this same thing going on though, so I guess I just need to accept it as normal and get over it. LOL
So how do we get around this... since we can't seem to avoid it?

well, I don't know how to "get over" it BUT...since hubby was off & had the computer all day yesterday, (I was obessing over what was going on here :D ). I dressed up, fixed my hair, put my makeup on & had my daughter take some pics (I'll post them soon. It was a great start & I actually felt good even though I just stayed in the house. Maybe a little "me" time is in order for you as well. :D

Looks like we all obsess about things huh? Right now and most of the time..I obsess about things that have to be done. Like this week...there are quite a few things I would like to accomplish while off, but at the same time worrying about if hubby will have to have surgery. I guess I obsess more than I thought..no wonder I'm such a b*tc* at times....too much pressure. Worst part of it is....I put the pressure on myself....how dumb is that???...I'm my own worst enemy...lol
My definition of obsess as an acronym
Oh Boy Seems Everybody's Stressing Some! :D
