Are any of you interested in posting photos of the interior of our homes? I don't know whether it is a good idea to post our exterior, but thought it would be interesting to see how everyone lives.....

Good Idea Janet. We could get ideas from what other people have done. I am sure Angie would like it with moving in to her new home. She could get some really good thoughts on how to decorate. Traci and I are hooked on HGTV. when I was younger I wanted to be an interior decorator. I have an apartment and need to really get some things I have neglected done before I could post pictures, but I would really like everyone's input later when I am trying to redo some things.

I'm gonna try to get some pics on today now that the house is clean. I took some pictures yesterday. Don't know for sure if I'll have time, the boys are coming home and I've got a couple that is suppose to come check out the puppies.

You wouldn't want to see my house right now. I have been really lazy lately. Think it would be because my daughter got me hooked on something I like to do more--like 4wt. That and maltese talk seem to get my interest more than doing what I should be.

The first two pics are of my bedroom. I'm wanting something different with the walls, like maybe a soft yellow, that way I can still use my blue accessories.
The junk in my living room is stuff I'm getting ready for a sale. Needs taken to the garage, but haven't done it yet. We never use this room

Janet, your home looks very nice. I really like the country blue. Here are a few of mine. We've been here for 4 years and are planning to sell soon and build again. Our home was in a Parade of Homes tour, so if you see some signs in the pictures, they were for the tour.

WOW you ladies have beautiful homes!
Janet, your bedroom is bigger than my living room! I love it! I think the yellow would really look nice with your woods and blue. I'd love to see pics if you decide to go for it!
Marilyn, your home looks like it should be in a magazine. Holy moley lady! LOL
It's really rich and gorgeous!
My humble abode is so serverely "vintage" yet that there's no way I'm posting pics till I get some of my projects completed. Even then it's going to look very "country bumpkin" compared to your ladies! My goal is to make the interior of my mobile home look NOT mobile. ;)
I too am addicted to HGTV, and belong to a couple of other sites that have interior decorating forums. I'd LOVE to have one here!

Marilyn your home is so rich looking and just beautiful. That is what I've always wanted. You have great taste in furniture too. My furniture is almost 25 years old and even though I try to take great care to make it all last, it is really showing signs of wear and 'butt prints'...lol Maybe someday.

There is a down side to everything. We've moved so many times that it would be hard to imagine actually staying some place and redecorating. Since we've been married, we've built 6 new homes in the same county for us and lived in rent houses in between some of them. Our poor daughters never really got to be long term friends with the kids in the neighborhood, but at least they know people all over town. We have boxes in the attic that haven't been opened for a couple of moves. Next time, I've told hubby, we need to build a storage building/shop, first, then the new home, move all the stuff we don't use everyday to the storage building/shop and go through it all.
One thing though, we've had all the latest trends in decor. Each home had a color palate and style that was the latest thing at the time it was built, and my appliances are always up-to-date.

I think that the building and moving have to do with her husband being a contractor. I can see where you would want to live in a very up to date home for your husband to be able to show clients what he can do for them.
Marilyn, your home is beautiful!!! I love your front door!!! Mine is really plain but it fits with the house. And your kitchen cabinets are absolutely beautiful!! What a kitchen!!! Everything looks so very nice!
I would love to have moved a few times more than we have, but with my husband being a farmer we're stuck in one sparse area. We built our home 8 years ago and tried to incorporate as many ideas as we could to make it comfortable in our old age. (Handicap doorways, washer and dryer on main level, pull out shelves in the cabinets, and etc.) Once is all that we plan on building but I love to decorate and moving a few more times would have been fun for me. The last home that we lived in was an old farm house with a trailer house attached and we lived there for 19 years.

Thank you ladies for your kind comments. Yes, we move a lot because my hubby is a home builder, and he keeps getting new ideas he wants to build for us. Hubby says the key is to not spend a million dollars but make it look like you did. ;) One of our homes was one he built to sell but liked so much we moved in. The colors were okay, not my favorite, but it was a very nice home.
The home we are in now, we worked together on, but I got to pick the colors and the tile, granite, etc. (Actually, hubby is color blind, so he has to trust me on some of this stuff.) Hubby did the faux wall finishes. An interior designer painted the decorative fruit, leaves, and such. We actually have a mouse eating an olive over one of our doors. It's our "house mouse". (He also built our church building, and had a "church mouse" painted over one of the doors.)I did a faux finish on our wrought iron stair railing that looks really cool, but no one notices the faux finish there which is as it should be. It was done to match a light fixture hanging in our entry.
By the way, the leaded glass entry is one of my husband's signature features. If you drive through certain neighborhoods, the homes with leaded glass entries are the ones he built. Now the entry doors are getting much larger and have decorative wrought iron behind very simple leaded glass.
I could go on and on. I may sell valves, but decorating, HGTV, and home design are actually what I would like to be doing. Hubby would like for me to be helping him, but he says he can't afford me. :D He pays people less than I make to do what I would do for him. I don't think he realizes what we could do together.
Toodles, you have done an excellent job with you home!! You have selected a nice color palate to work with. It's a nice sophisticated look.

oh, thank you guys. It is nothing too fancy but this is our first home and we are learning a lot about decorating. So this has been our "guinea pig" home LOL. It is a small home, very modest, but it is perfect for us right now. Our next home will be more elaborate but we are not very big on HUGE houses...we only want what we need. Our next home will be at least 4 bedrooms with a bonus. We have 3 + bonus now and can't imagine bringing a baby into it :) so I guess that means we need another bedroom. Plus, I want to raise Danes again so we need a bit more room for that. We are also looking for 5 acres or so to build a house on...so I imagine the house will be a tad bigger than what we have now :) I want a LARGE bathroom and master bedroom and an open kitchen. Those are my big things. The living room needs to be at least as big as what we have now or our furniture will not fit LOL. ah...who knows what we will end up with...only time will tell :)
I love looking at your houses...you all have lovely homes!!

Janet, I was trying to come up with a color palette that would work well with your blue accessories. I found this website: http://www.behr.com/behrx/workbook/
It allows you to select your blue as an accent color and offers color palettes that you can choose from. I picked a blue similiar to yours and it came up with about 8 different palettes.
If you visit a Sherwin Williams store, Home Depot's paint department, or any other major paint manufacturer's store or website, they have sample palettes and offer color coordinating assistance. Sherwin Williams helped me with the palette for our home. I fine tuned it because I wanted more tranquil colors, where they wanted us to use bolder ones, but their suggestions helped a lot!!
Bottomline, you need to feel good in the color that surrounds you. Wishing you much success with your redecorating efforts!!!

Which I think is one of the truest statements there is in decorating.
If you look in your closet and pick your favorite outfits, you'll see what you lean toward and what looks best on you. You want to feel that same way about your home. With my skin tone I look terrible in orange, and turn green in lime greens. For that very reason you will never find either in my home.
Well said Marilyn!

Thank you Marilyn for the web-site. I played with it a little while and I really like it. I saved it in my favorites. It will take some time, but I'll get it done. I usually have to do everything myself, so maybe this summer or fall I can get it done.
I didn't show my bathrooms, one, I'm pleased with, but the other is horrible. I won't be able to do anything with it really unless I change the tub, toilet and sinks. When we first built the house, harvest gold was 'the thing.' Now it makes me sick just to go in there. I would love to get that changed too and hopefully sometime I will be able to.

When we first married, we lived in apartments, a rent house, then we bought our mobile home. We lived in our trailer for 3 or 4 years while we built our first dream home. That house had a lot of sweat equity. For colors, the toilet, tub, counter tops, sinks, kitchen appliances, Formica in kitchen, floor coverings, wall paper in bathroom were all HARVEST GOLD. I thought it was such a beautiful color. Our first appartment had been harvest gold & my sister's kitchen appliances were harvest gold. Carpet in master was gold, one bedroom was green, other and living were rust. We were so proud of our first home. In a couple of years, I realized what a mistake we had made. Harvest Gold had been in style for quite a while, and was going out :( . If we'd stayed in that house, we'd have had a lot of expensive things to replace. Now I know better. More permanent fixtures are neutral colors or stainless steel now. I so understand.

Your bedspread is just like the shower curtain that my daughter had her first year at college. She and her roommate painted their bathroom that bright turquoise color (matched the shower curtain perfectly) and had orange rugs and towels to match. When you got up in the morning you didn't stay drowsy too long after you got in the bathroom. It was a real eye opener!!!!!!! I still tease her about it.

3. Dining Room--all three of these rooms and the adjoining hall have a faux wainscotting that I did myself. I upholstered the dining room chairs and made the table runner to match the two chairs in the living room.

Thanks! The other half will have to wait for pictures until I finish cleaning it, LOL! :o
Every few months, I get a wild hair and do something to it. The next project will probably be our downstairs powder room. I've always wanted to put in beadboard paneling in there, and we need a new pedestal sink. Maybe I'll take that one on sometime soon. The only thing left to do in the house after that is the laundry room. But I don't know what to do with that yet.

Yes, that is Southern California tract home living. We are actually lucky that on one side with have more room. This is actually a decent sized lot for homes these days. In the newer homes, they have them about 2000 sft smaller!
I think when my husband retires, we'll sell this house and move out of state. I'd like to move somewhere where I have lots of trees, shade, and cooler weather, plus where our neighbors aren't right on top of us...a less expensive home would be nice too, LOL! I'm lucky that the people living around us are pretty quiet.

I'd say this place is easily the size of a small house.

Oh cool...now I've got to go through them all again...thanks, I love looking at them again. This time I will put them in a subscription folder so they won't get lost again.

Yes...just go to your User CP and down the left side you'll see where your subscriptions are. It also says edit folders. So if you want to put 'Homes' as one...'games'...etc...
