View Full Version : Do I dare?

Our sofa is a nightmare. I got it by default. It's nothing I'd have ever in a million years have chosen for myself. The ONLY good things I can say for it are it's very comfortable, and it was free.

I want to take it out and get rid of it today. Hubby of course isn't around to ask. He never sits on it, he has his own chair... and he has no big attachment to it either, but seems to feel we should have a sofa since that's the "norm".

My thinking is, that as long as we have this ugly thing, he's not going to be in any rush to get a better one. He's rarely home and really doesn't care much about these type of things, but I kinda wonder if this is going too far without asking him first? LOL

So would you do it?
Do I dare?

Well, my dear Tink, I think you know me enough by now to know that I would tell you................YES....GO FOR IT!!!!!

Questions to ask...does he sit on it, does he clean it, does he move it, if the answers are no....then you can do whatever you want...and tell him "I said so"...LOL

Sure wish you lived closer, I have a couch and loveseat...almost new condition I'm going to sell this summer.

I don't know what to tell you, Tink. My husband takes care of our finances and if I were to throw out something like that I might be waiting a while before I got another one. He wouldn't be mad or any thing like that but we might not have the money available at that time to replace it.

I think that only you know how your husband would react and you should base your decision on that. Personally, I would talk to my husband about it first.

Tink, I think you know your relationship and your husband best and you know how he will respond. Good luck!

Thanks all

Greg called, so I did ask him and he said "Fine, get rid of it!" So now I'm just trying to round up enough help to get it done. It's HUGE and very heavy.

I'm glad that it worked out too. Now you don't have to worry about how he'll react when he finds it gone.

We're looking for furniture for our basement

I hope to look for a sofa tomorrow, but won't be in any huge rush to buy one unless i find a really good deal on it. Ashley Furniture is having a tent sale tomorrow, so it's possible.

We picked up materials today to start installing our wood floor in the family room, and to re-insulate the underside of the house. It would be simpler not to have a sofa to move whien we're doing the floor. ;)

I think that looking for furniture is fun! Ashley furniture has some really cute styles. I got a new couch set last year and I really looked at Ashley, but they only come one color. You can't change the fabric so it took me a while to find what I wanted. I just about drove my husband crazy!!! I really like what I got except the fabric is a little more golden than what i really wanted, but it looks really nice. I'm just picky!!

I think that I know what you're going to be doing this weekend. Hope your floor goes in really easy and you enjoy doing it. Good luck!!!

I'm in shock! I looked at furniture today, and found some really good deals, so when I got home I told Greg about the bargains I found and he agreed to go look at them with me. He's usually not real eager to go anywhere when he's home 'cause he's here so little, so I was surprised. :D

Anyway, we found a chocolate leather reclining sofa that had had it's one wooden frame piece damaged by a fork lift, that had been repaired so it's good as new. It was regularly $960, clearanced for $335! Then we found a reclining loveseat that was normally $620 clearanced at $235!
So with tax included, I paid $3 less for the pair than the loveseat alone retails at.

It's really nice. We only sit on it on Christmas morning. We've had it for 2 years. I'ts a blue/teal like color. I posted a picture in the thread 'Anyone interested?' The loveseat is in the 3rd picture, it as a 3 cushion sofa just like it. The couch and loveseat were custom made in Berne, Indiana.

Wow!!!! Tink, that looks very nice!! And it sounds like you got a really good deal on both pieces of furniture!!! We bought a leather recliner when we bought our sofa set, but I can assure you that we didn't get a good deal for ours like you did. Congratulations! Now doesn't it make you want to get everything in place and see it all newly decorated?

BTW--How's the floor coming? Did you get started on it yet?

Tink

Diana, you're SO right. I can hardly wait to get everything done and see the transformation. Hubby doesn't have time this weekend to start the floor because he leaves again tomorrow, and we've decided to stain and poly the wood prior to putting it down so that we don't have to deal with it being wet and sticky in the center of the house. The finish will be walnut with a satin sheen. It needs 3-4 coats, so will take time to prepare. I bought oil based polyurethane because it's suposed to be more durable than the water based. With pets, it's not a job we want to have to repeat any time soon. Moses or Sebastian paw prints in the finish wouldn't be good. LOL

So that the room doesn't get TOO dark, the loveseat has a much lighter color on it than the sofa. It's more a sandy khaki color and is a faux suede called durapella. So they don't match, but do compliment each other nicely. I had to laugh when they carried the 2 pieces out of the store. There were 2 older ladies standing by the door who commented on it. "OH that sofa is NICE!" They said. Then dumbfounded "They put that love seat in the same truck! Those pieces don't match!" Teeheehee I wanted to tell them to watch HGTV... the pieces don't HAVE to match anymore. But I kept quiet... They would have thought me insane.

Tink, so glad you found something that you really like and got such a fantastic deal!!!!! Awesome!!!!

We're using all Ashley furniture for a home I'm decorating for my hubby's home tour. The couch we picked is also chocolate brown, a different style, but very similiar color.

Enjoy you're new furniture!!!!!

Marilyn, we found out that the Millenium line of Ashley furniture is their higher quality line and is comparable in quality to more high end companies. They have several lower end lines that they've been getting quite a few complaints about the quality of. I have a close friend who works in the compalints department at the main Ashley offices who told me about this.

Thank goodness our stuff is from the Millenium line.

Good information. I really didn't know that much about Ashley, but they do have some really nice looking furniture. If we decide to buy any, we will definitely check this out. We've bought items in the past that looked really nice and were told by the salesperson how great the quality was only to have problems when we got the items home.
