My sweet mother has been going to jury selection for a very difficult (emotionally straining) case for the past week. It doesn't look like she'll be selected for the final jury, but it already seems to have made her very sad. :( She was upset today because she saw the family of the victim cry for the first time. They have sequestered 14 of the 100 member jury pool since the case will appear on Court TV, but if the lawyers throw any of these members off of the jury tomorrow, my mom could be chosen. Please pray that this doesn't happen. I know it would devastate her to have to see those images and the family's tears and to have to be completely alone in a hotel away from her children during that time. I really, REALLY hope she doesn't get chosen...

It sounds like a very hard / emotional case and I can understand why you don't want you Mom to be chosen. I hope it all works out and she wont have to attend.

Jury duty can be very trying. My husband was on once and it bothered him for some time and his was only for theft. He was upset because he felt that nobody told the truth.

It's funny that you posted this because today my husband had to go back in for jury duty again today. It's been years since he was on the last time. He called at noon and said that it's only going to be for a day. I can't figure out what's going to trial in our small town.:scratchhead:

Hopefully your Mom won't have to be involved. Tell her that we're thinking of her.

Thank you ladies. It was confirmed today that my mother does NOT have to serve on the jury!! I'm thrilled.

Diana, I'm sorry that your hubby had to do it before and that it was a hard situation for him. Maybe he won't be chosen this time around...

My husband was chosen as one of the jurors, but while they were all there they had the trial and it's all done. It was about a drunk guy with a motorcycle, and well, the story is too complicated to write it all out. They found him guilty of no insurance and, hmmmm, I forget, a couple of other things. They didn't find him guilty of drunk driving because he was pushing his motorcycle when it went out of control!!!

I'm glad she doesn't have to go through with the jury duty. I've heard it can be a very trying experience. Our town is small and I've never been called ever, my husband has been called, but never had to serve. I don't understand in all these years, where they got all the people to serve in this small town. It really doesn't matter I guess, neither of us really want to anyway.

Yikes, that sounds interesting, Diana. The case my Mom went through selection for was for two guys who were drag racing and hit a teenage girl's car who was stopped at a red light. She died instantly, but they were going so fast that they pushed her car 40 feet down the road. She had just been crowned homecoming queen that night. It was a very sad thing to have happened and I'm SO glad my mother won't have to be on the jury. I just feel awful for her family though.

Oh, how awful. Her family has to really be suffering. It would be a really hard jury to be on and very emotional. I'm glad that your Mom doesn't have to hear all of the details about it.

Yeah, I am very relieved. My mother has such a sweet and caring heart and I just didn't want her to have to go through that. Being the mother of five, I know it would've really upset her...
