I was leaving my neighborhood yesterday morning to go into Manhattan. I had enough time, but I drive like a cowgirl. There's a lot of traffic congestion in my area - buses, trucks, cars, school buses, etc. I have a (very bad) habit of zooming around a line of cars on their left to get to the front of the line. I have a sports car, so can fit into small openings. There were a couple of double parker's and everyone was going way too slow. I saw a clear line that I could just zoom through and leave them all behind to figure out the mess themselves. Unfortunately, the guy next to me on my right hit me, but it was really my fault because I was creating my own lane.
I pulled over to see if he was okay and to see what he wanted to do. He was really nice about it. He didn't want to involve my insurance company (city drivers rarely do - our rates go up, and we have a lot of fender benders). He has probably got insurance issues already. His front bumper had come loose, but he thought he could probably get it fixed for about $25.00. I gave him my name and phone number. He said he probably wouldn't even call me. I could have given him a fake name and number, but I couldn't do that. I did damage to his car and I really hate people who are hit and runners. It's so wrong.
But, I so hope that he doesn't call!!! There's no way anyone is going to fix his bumper for $25.00 and I'm going to have to pay for it.
