**I didn't mean for there to be two threads going about this at the same time and I apologize. When I made this new thread, I thought the old one wasn't really being used anymore and I felt the situation changed so much that it was worth a new thread. If I had known the other would still be going, I wouldn't have made this one. Just thought you should know that.**

Anyway, I have been feeling so sad since I got home about an hour ago and I've been looking at pictures of my papaw (the few that I have since my hard-drive crashed and I lost everything). For some reason, I feel compelled to share them with you. He was truly a wonderful person...

1. Smiling, like he always did...
2. With my neice

They came to get his oxygen and medical supplies today...that made it seem so much more real. I miss him more than words could say... :(

Oh, Angie, so very sad to hear of your loss. However, at least he was spared much of the effects of alzheimers. He still knew all of you at least & knew you loved him. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Angie thank you for posting those pictures. I looked through all my pictures (not on the computer) today. I have very few left. I lost most of them when I split up with an ex & I didn't have a single picture of Papaw left. I know I have some on my old hard drive. I am going to take those to get them pulled off hopefully on Tuesday. but I saved those two atleast I have something now. Thank you again.

You can tell from the look in his eyes that he was a man with a good sense of humor and very loving toward his family.

Be thankful that in passing he didn't suffer long and his mind was fairly good. As Marilyn said, "At least he was spared the effects of alzheimers."

You and your family are in my prayers.

I hope you make it through this heartbreak as smoothly as possible.

Here is part of his obituary and the photo we chose yesterday.

Rev. James Allen Markland, 72, [address removed], passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was a native of Carter County but had lived most of his life in Johnson City. Rev. Markland was a son of the late Melvin and Jennie Nidiffer Markland and was a member of the Freewill Baptist faith. He had been a minister of the gospel for over 30 years. His last pastorate position was at True Faith Chapel in Elizabethton. Rev. Markland had also been a member in the Joyland Singers Quartet.

He had served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was also well known as Sky Hawk on the CB Radio, also known as Jim Allen on various radio stations.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers, as it is still very difficult and many things are uncertain. My mom has been staying at my mamaw's house all day and night and she is getting very worn out. She slept a little more than one hour Wed. night and very little again last night. The children have been staying with Brendon and me and we're trying to keep things as normal as possible for them. It'll be like this for at least another 4 or 5 days and after that we don't know what will happen. There is no easy solution...

Thanks so much to all of you for your thoughts and prayers. It has been a very difficult week. It is so good to know you were all thinking of us. Keep us in your prayers. It is still difficult. He was married to my Mom for 33 years so he really became my Dad and has been the only Grandfather my children knew.

Thank you Gina & Mom you know he felt that you were his daughter as well. He said often that we were his only family. Our cousin Don basically said the same thing to me at the funeral. That even though I didn't get the scrapbook done in time or didn't call on Father's day Papaw knew we were there everyday of his life not just when we needed something but he always knew if it was in our power we were only a call away. He couldn't say that for alot of people but he always could for us.

Oh honey it's ok. We all had so much going on before Papaw's passing, then after we didn't have much time. I had the kids, you were sick. I'm not sure what to do with the book now but I do still want to do it.
