Okay, I don't know about y'all, but I've decided to quit reading the news. I think it's negatively affecting my perspective on life. It's just too depressing!!!!!! Husband's killing wives, wives killing husbands, children killing parents, husband killing woman he's having children with outside of his marriage. Paris Hilton getting $1,000,000 for first interview out of prison. Give me a break. A naughty woman who will inherit the Hilton hotel fortune gets a mil for an interview. Please!!!!!! Enough is enough!!!!!! Who cares if Rosy hosts Price is Right any way??????
How about some good new for a change?????? Surely something good happened in the world today that is worth reporting.
Marilyn, its funny you mentioned this, I was thinking the same earlier. I was reading the front page of the NY post that my husband brings home from Manhattan. It showed a firefighter of 23 yrs. old who fell to his death yesterday 4 stories down. I cried reading the article . He was a young boy .What a tradegy and the fire was not even a life threatning one. My heart goes out to this firefighters family. Now that I ventured off the thread, Marilyn I can't stand hearing the news or reading the paper. We need to hear about good things for a change.
I've been looking at GOOD NEWS sites for quite some time. If you'd like to check some out, here ya go!

I know what you mean Marilyn..(by the way...love your new pic in the avatar!!) It's hard to practice "the Secret" with all the horrible things going on around us. Some are not too horrible, but really unfair.
When I get upset about things going on in the world, the first thing I do is pray and be thankful for what I really have. In recent past, that in itself has been a chore, but this week alone, tired, frustrated, sad, happy....the whole bit, makes me appreciate my little world all the more. No matter what is going on in the big world.
I don't read the paper, but I do find that I want to watch the news once/day just to know if anything important is happening. I think I've become immune to people like Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan. I actually feel sorry for them. Their parents didn't do right by them.
That story about the fireman is heartbreaking!

Thank you, Tink!! I needed that!!
So sad about the young firefighter. I guess we need to know some of this stuff, but it just get's old and there is so much negative in the normal news.
Janet, thanks for the encouragement!! I do count my blessings, but the news is still so depressing. To know that so many people out there are suffering and we can't help them, just have to do what we can where we are.

I know what you mean about the news. For one I'm sick of hearing about movie stars and all of their problems!!! Paris and Lindsay need to grow up and live in the real world. After seeing how a lot of the child actors turn out I would never want my child to grow up in that atmosphere.
I only read the news on the internet and our local paper (which is VERY small town). There are sooo many stories on the internet concerning killing that it does get very sad. Maybe we should start posting happy news on here and share it with each other.
BTW-Marilyn, I like your new avatar. It sure shows that you and your daughter look alot alike.

Marilyn, it seems we are never on here at the same time anymore...it makes me sad. I haven't posted as much as I use to, been checking out a few other sites, but it seems most all of them are a little slow. Must be because of summer, at least I hope that's it.
I'm going to try to be on here a little more. I have a hard time starting threads because I just don't feel most of what I would post is interesting, plus the fact that not a whole lot new happens around here. I really need to get out more....LOL...instead of staying home all the time.
I have the news on right now, and I thought about your post Marilyn. PH is out of jail, they just buried that poor fireman who died last week, a 20 year old father who abused his baby (I won't go into details - evil) and she's in critical condition, and some new reason about why our trains won't run right. Oh yeah - and why Christy Whitman is at fault for not warning workers of pollution from 9/11.
Last, but not least there was just a story about a gay high school student who spent $150.00 to have a page of the yearbook on which he put a picture of him and his lover kissing. Someone in the school decided that this is unacceptable for high school seniors to see (believe me - I taught high school in NYC - they've seen it already, and just about everything else). This person sat down and magic markered out all of the pictures of this couple in all of the books. The windup - if students want the uncensored version, it is now available. Whichever side of that fence you happen to be on, I think they're both nuts and need to get lives.
Sorry Marilyn - I know you wanted to avoid the news.

Judy, it's okay. I'm outside sales so I visit with customers all the time. I can't really avoid the news. If I don't watch it, everyone around me is talking about it. It's just so very depressing. I really don't get all the hoopla about Paris Hilton. She must be our princess or something. Good Grief!!!! She's just a spoiled brat that deserves our sympathy, and certainly not all this press.
There are much more important things going on in the world. Maybe people don't want to think about the important issues, and reading about Paris is easier or something.

Not all princesses are like that, right Judy? ;) Sorry--an inside joke opportunity I couldn't pass up...
Marilyn, I agree, the news is always just so depressing! I did however read that the American Bald Eagle is no longer on the endangered list so it's not always bad...I just try to skip over all of the Paris Hilton/Lindsey Lohan stuff. I think they get way too much media attention for making the wrong choices and I think it was outrageous to pay Paris $1 million for an interview after she got out of jail... :thumbdwn: Like you said, there are more important things people could be reading/talking about...

I agree! I don't even watch the news anymore. I find it scary and unnerving.

There was a bad news side to that story, too. Since it is being removed from the endangered species list, it's habitat will no longer be protected as it was.

Marilyn, I read that as well and it made me sad...apparently there was a big push from property owners who want to be able to do as the please and destroy eagle habitats that caused the bald eagle to be removed from the endangered species list in the first place... :(
I was trying to focus on the positive aspect which is that they've recovered from 417 mating pairs to over 10,000 in the past 40 years due to legislation and the elimination of DDTs...

Oh no!! I hope they don't allow them to do that! Isn't the bald eagle and its habitat protected since that is our National Bird??!!

Unfortunately Willow, it was only protected by laws concerning the endangered species and those laws no longer apply to the bald eagle since it's not on the list anymore...

I will make a thread about this with a news article, but I don't want to take over Marilyn's thread since it's about NOT reading the news, lol.
Sorry Marilyn. I originally mentioned this as a positive thing and didn't mean for it to become negative like this... :(
