I am so happy that my son is now home. He had so many stories to tell and took his very first horseback ride. Guess what...now he wants a horse...LOL Of course we have no room on our acre of land, but I know how he feels. I wanted one ever since I was a little girl...don't all little girls?

Gidget (our mama Yorkie) was so happy to see him and stuck to him like glue. He loved that of course.

He's really excited for Tuesday at 1:00 PM to come...he gets his cast off. He just can't wait and almost has the hours counted down.

Today I will do all their laundry..fun! and life will get back to normal. He's a little disappointed that no one called with a job offer while he was gone, so I think he is going to detassle corn. It starts next month for 2-3 weeks, but feels it's better than nothing. I'm just so over protective that I'll worry if a storm comes up and they are out in a field. I just hope he likes it and doesn't get discouraged out in the hot sun and the corn stalks scratching him all up. I know he will be exhausted at the end of the day. He will like the money I'm sure.

I'm glad to hear that your son had a good time. I know that you were ready for both of them to come back home.

Sorry that he hasn't had anyone call about a job. My daughter that just graduated, Dae Lynn, is having a hard time finding a new job too. Detasseling corn sounds like a long, hot, boring job.

I can just see Gidget following your son around and standing by just wiggling with excitement while he looked at the puppies. I know that Reuger is a ball of wiggle when we come home. It doesn't matter if we were gone for 5 minutes or all day. We get the same welcome. It's kinda' nice to be missed so much!!!

YAY! I'm so happy that they're back Janet. I know you've been missing them. Have a fun week enjoying their company and getting some extra help with the puppies. :)

Janet,

Did you ever detassel corn? They won't work when it's storming out. I worked
3 summers and got wet but when it stormed we quit and had to leave the field.
I know I'd be worried too. Jen has a job offer when school starts working
for a dry cleaner. Dustin is working 2 jobs this summer.
Tell the boy's hello for me.

Yeah!!!!! So glad they are back so you have some help and some company!!!! Great that they had such a good time & got to ride a horse. Cool  !!

Why do they detassle corn??? We raise a LOT of corn around here. I grew up on a farm with corn and we never detassled it. Seems like a strange and unnessary thing to do.

We'd walk the milo fields to grub out Johnson grass or sunflowers. We'd chop cotton, but never detassle corn.

Guess it's a regional thing.

Marilyn, you got me curious, so I had to look it up. LOL

Seed companies plant different varieties of corn and detassle the ones they don't want to cross.

I've never detasseled corn. I turned 16 on March 6 and on March 7th had a job and I've worked ever since.

I'm not sure I want him working too much during school. He struggles with some of his classes and this coming school year won't be an easy one either. He doesn't like school much and it's so hard to get him to study of an evening. If he had a job, he'd never get any studying done. If he wants to make any money this summer, he is gonna have to detassel.

He filled out 20 applications and no one has called. I told him next year he was putting in applications starting at the end of April (school gets out in May.) His arm was in a cast, so that may have had something to do with it. I don't know.
