Someone posted a topic regarding bagged salads several weeks ago over on YT and since then, I've stopped purchasing them. Here's a link to a story off CNN where e.coli has been linked to bagged spinich in several states with one death because of it. If you purchase the bag salads like I used to, you may want to rethink that. I now buy the full head of lettuce or whatever greens I'm using with my salad.

OMG! This was all over the news last night and this morning. One person has died and 50 more are reported very sick from eating the prebagged Spinach. The FDA has ordered ALL grocery stores to throw out ALL bagged spinach! NERVOUS!

I just hate it because after work I am NOT in the mood to buy a head of lettuce or fresh spinach, wash it, let it dry, and THEN break it all up into a salad. It was so much more convenient to just buy it already chopped up for you and all you had to do was pour it in a bowl and put some dressing on it. I'm disappointed myself. :(

I'm just as guilty! I'm the main salad eater in my family although occassionally my hubby and youngest will eat one. The bagged salad greens were more convenient and less "wasteful" for me. But I always noticed when I bought the bagged salads, they "spoiled" after 3 days if it wasn't eaten all and I'd throw it away. Now, I get the full heads of lettuce, wash it and drain it, and to help keep it crisp, I put a folded paper towel in the bottom of my bowl....the water continues to drain a little bit, wetting the paper towel which, for some reason, will help keep the lettuce crisper! And it lasts longer than the bagged. I just break off what I need for a salad when I want one. I feel better using the heads of lettuce now instead of those bags - my health and the health of my family is more important.

I agree. I would never sacrifice my health for convenience. Wait a minute....ok, maybe sometimes I do, like when I go to fast food restaurants! :p :p :p

Oh, ME TOO!!!! I am a big PIZZA fan. Can't get enough of it. But I try to stay away from all that stuff bc my hubby puts on weight really easily. He has to really watch himself. That is my only saving grace bc I would eat Pizza every single night if I could!

BREAKING NEWS!! New York is now the 11th state confirmed with this e.coli outbreak. I work in a hopsital setting and this "bug" is bad news. Please, if you have any bagged salad in your fridge, whether it's spinach or regular salad greens - throw them out!!! Your health is more important!!

My grandmother just called me and told me she had some bagged spinach tonight. She heard the news after she ate it and now she is worried she is going to get sick. I looked up e. coli and the main symptoms are cramps and bloody diarrhea. I told her to go to the emergency room as soon as she feels anything weird. I would suggest anyone else on here to do the same. If you feel sick, don't wait, this bacteria has already killed someone.:(
I heard it on the news tonight, I think everyone should stay away from all the bagged produce. Shame I liked eating it to, so easy just wash . Better to be safe than sorry.

The bagged stuff was so much easier, but no more!!! I guess I should try and find one of those salad spinners to help wash and dry the heads of lettuce. So they still make those???

They just showed it on the news here, that they took all the bagged spinash off the shelves in the States. One woman died from it, they said, for older people and young children it can be deadly
