Hey everyone! I haven't been on for awhile because I haven't even been turning on my computer at home because it gets so warm! We are breaking records with this heat... yesterday it was 45 degrees Celsius! That's 113 F! I was sweating buckets when I got home. Within the first 5 minutes my shirt was all wet and my face was dripping. I really really wish we had air conditioning! I put some ice in my dog's water bowl and it was melted in 30 seconds. I have barely slept in 2 nights... I have 2 fans on me and I'm still soaked all night! This morning I actually felt like I was going to throw up, but came to work anyway just for the air conditioning!
What a year of extreme weather... just 6 months ago it was blizzarding and -58 C (-72.4 F)!
I just want some weather I can handle!

I always thought that further north that the weather didn't get as hot so I'm surprised by your high temperatures. Taking a shower before you go to bed always helps you to feel cooler when you sleep.

We haven't hit the 100 degree mark yet, but I'm sure it's coming. I'm planning on swimming when it gets to that point!

I wish that I had some wonderful words of advice on staying cool, but I can't think of anything besides swimming. Make sure you don't get too hot and drink plenty of water.

Well usually our summers are at least manageable... 25-35ish (77-95 F) but this is just getting insane! I have never been in weather this hot before. I feel so bad for my dog stuck in our sauna of a house!
For the past couple of weekends I've cooled off thanks to a sprinkler I bought for the backyard. My roommate and I have been going out there and acting like little kids again lol... We're thinking of maybe getting a little kiddie pool also so we can sit in it and read!
I think tonight I'm gonna take your advice and shower BEFORE bed. I'm the morning showerer of our house but I feel so gross going to bed all sweaty!
It's a pretty big misconception that it doesn't get very hot up here... Our winters tend to be pretty long with snow on the ground for about 6 months. During summer, closer to the coasts it's a lot cooler but I'm smack dab in the middle of the prairies and it gets pretty hot! Actually a couple of years ago I was up in the Yukon and Alaska and it was around 35 degrees C the whole time I was there!

Oh Lindsey... that sounds just miserable.
For less than $100 you can get a window AC that would at least keep your bedroom cool! I'd just die in that kind of heat without AC.

I've seen on YT where they were talking about cooling blankets or pads for their dogs. Maybe you could search on ebay or something and that would help. If not, a window air conditioner like Tink suggested is worth it.

My roommate and I were talking about maybe getting a little window ac, but the only windows they would fit are our bedroom windows, and who knows how long this heat will last for? With our luck it'll be done after this weekend and we'd have spent that money for nothing! If this kinda temperature was normal I think I'd buy one for sure!
I read about those cooling pads on YT, and I actually looked for something like that in Petsmart last night but couldn't find anything. I was tempted to just go wet some towels with cold water for myself and my dog, but I just felt too drained to move. She actually sat at the end of my bed and hogged all the air from the fan last night... I didn't realize until she moved and I got a big blast of air!
For now I guess I'm just going to enjoy my day here at the office with ac. I think I maybe am actually getting sick and not just from the heat, because I just went and had lunch in the lunch room and my brain is all cloudy and I still feel a little nauseous.
Tonight the temperature is supposed to drop about 15 degrees so hopefully I'll get some sleep!

Lindsey that is terrible. I have been in Las Vegas in July and boy was it hot, but you didn't sweat. Invest like the others said in a small ac, it is good to have for the summer , I have central air on and it is only about 82 but that is hot for me... How does your little one bear the heat, keep giving her water , I hope that you had her groomed for the summer with a shorter cut. I hope that you have a fan at least...

Woohoo my prayers were answered! Last night my brother gave me another extra fan for my room (his room is in the basement... it's a little cooler and he has 2 fans but this one was too loud for him to sleep with), and then it dropped down to 14 degrees overnight! Today it's going to be a nice normal 24.
Believe me, I felt soooo bad leaving my dog at home and coming to work! Luckily we don't have carpet so the floors stay relatively cool. and she spent most of her time flat on the floor with her back against a wall. My ceiling fan and oscillating fan are both on all day in my room for her. She has an appointment on Saturday to get a short summer cut, so a little late, but who knows when it's gonna get really hot again! I've never had her in a short cut before and I'm kind of nervous!

Reuger has a short cut and I really like it better than the long hair. I shave him down to where it's not very long because I know that he has to be cooler and also, he doesn't get stickers in his hair as bad.

Hehehe that's funny you mention stickers... a couple days ago I woke up to Layla with electrical tape all down her tummy, and then last night I was sitting in bed reading Marley and Me when Layla jumped up with a little peice of masking tape on her head. This morning I put my hand out to pet her and she had masking tape on her chin! I don't even know where it comes from!! We also have a bunch of trees in our front yard that lose little seedling kinda things a lot and our whole front deck is covered in them. Whenever she goes out she picks those and leaves up in her fur and tracks them into the living room. For that reason I'm looking forward to a short cut!

Don't be nervous about having the dog groomed with a short cut. Gucci was shaved last week, and she looks adorable, they used number 4 & 5 if that helps. She is just perfect now for the heat.. They are such cute doggies don't worry, they will still be pretty. lol

If I can post a photo I will try later but I don't know how to resize.

I guess I'm nervous and excited at the same time! I really hope it turns out okay! I'm going to ask for it to be about 2 inches long for her whole body, and then still long on her head so I can keep putting a little ponytail in. It's taken over a year for her bangs to grow out long enough and there are still some that stick right out! I always get so worried over stuff like this and my roommate always says "What are you going to be like when you have KIDS??"

Lindsey,

Here's the eBay site for that cooling pad - they come in different sizes. I bought a smaller one. They're for pets, but work fine for people.

Hope it already cooled down and you don't need it anymore.
