I've asked this question many times over the years when people were driving badly, and today I got my answer!
I was driving on a narrow 2 lane Hwy in Minnesota that's squeezed in between the mississippi River and bluffs. In case of an emergency there is simply no place to escape to on either side of the road. I was coming into a small town, so the speed limit drops from 55 to 45 rather abruptly right on top of a small hill. I started applying my brakes to slow down, then realized I had a SUV just about climbing in my trunk and seeming not to realize I was trying to slow up. I ended up still going 55 when I hit the limit change just to avoid being rear ended!
Out of no where a squad car showed up right behind the SUV with lights and siren going, and I thought for sure I was going to get a speeding ticket. Amazingly, the officer waved me on and nailed my tailgater instead. Sometimes justice does work!
