View Full Version : Wild weather
According to the news, a storm wiped out a house west of here a few minutes ago... and it's headed in my direction. I dont know if I should even bother watching the forecast when it's this wicked... I don't have a basement to go to anyway. I'm a fatalist, so figure if it's my turn to go there's no avoiding it anyway. I simply find storms fascinating.
So does anyone else get captivated by storm watching?

Living in Florida, I have seen my share of storms. I love watching the lightning but am scared to death of it as well. I will not step outside my door when there is lightning............NO WAY!!! But I'll watch it form the inside of my house. It is like watching fire works with no color. And of course I have been through a few hurriicanes...........that's not much fun but I've never been hurt or suffered damage, thank goodness. Tornadoes do fascinate me but never seen more than a water funnel in the gulf. That was exciting to see.

I'm weird. I just LOVE storms...as long as I can stay inside and watch them. I think they are just so relaxing and intriguing. I only hate it when someone gets hurt because of them. I hope no one in your town or neighborhood gets hurt by this one!

I love storms too. Everyone else here gets so nervous and scared, kind of takes the fun out of it.
I love storms too, but we don't get much damage in NYC.
Be safe!

I love storms too. We will usually pull a chair up to the end of the garage door and watch them come our direction.

I can't say that "I love storms". Here in Kansas we take storms very seriously because you never know when one might produce a tornado. I would love to see a really big tornado but not where anyone loses anything. I have seen several smaller tornados. When the weather gets bad we have an eye to the sky and the internet weather map on!!!!!
Here is a tornado that was 1/2 mile from our house in 2003. My husband took this picture and my daughter put it on the internet. It never touched the ground. The country side had many tornados like this one on this day but there was no damage.

Wow Diana, that's about as close as you want to get to a storm like that.
I love to watch storms. When I was about 6 we were ar my grandparents farm in Illinois. A tornado struck right outside the house, and I was standing in a window watching the post office accross the road blow apart when my grandpa grabbed me and ran for the basement. He said I "didn't have the good sense to be scared" LOL I guess I haven't changed much with time.

Tink, we do have a storm shelter built in the corner of our basement. While my husband was out in the field taking pictures, several of us were staying pretty near the basement. Just in case.
The funny part was when we first spotted it. My husband and I were at our garden which is down the hill from the house, when my daughter pulled up to talk to us. I looked up and there the tornado was so my daughter took off for the house and my husband and I jumped in the pickup to follow her. Well, I should say that HE jumped in the pickup and I was trying!!! My legs are short and getting into the pickup is not an easy job. Anyway, I had one "cheek" on the seat and my husband in his excitement put the pickup in gear and gunned it. The pickup didn't move because the grass was wet and he was trying to go too fast in his excitement so the wheels just spun! I was finally able to get in and we got safely to the house. My husband is usually very calm and level-headed but this was one time that he really surprised me!
LOL Diana, it's good he didn't get grip or he'd have drove off with you laying face down in the grass.

I know! I know!! He would have definitely left me laying by the side of the garden!!! And probably wouldn't have noticed until he got to the house!!! LOL
Diana,
That's a great story! You can laugh about it for years with hubby.
I love the picture too.
