I almost forgot to tell you guys. I have this family on my bus route that is really sad. They live in horrible filth. The little girl that rides my bus is in first grade. She lives with her aunt (mother walks the streets in our little town) and step-grandfather. They are on disablility for mental problems. They have their neighbors scared to death because they sit just across the road in front of the neighbors house in the weeds and just stare. They have had the cops called on them many times and they don't like going there either. Well anyway... about a week ago, Patty (the little girl) got on the bus and said she had a new kitty. Her nutso aunt would walk her to the bus and wait on her by the road in the afternoon with this little gray tiger kitty. Yesterday Patty got on the bus and said her kitty died. I said I was sorry for her and her kitty and asked what had happened. Patty told me that her aunt forgot to feed it. Can you believe that? I've been in contact with the school and CPS since school started. My wish is that as sad as it sounds...is that they can take Patty and put her in a good foster home. I feel so bad for this little girl.

I talked with one of their neighbors last night and Patty's aunt (she was carrying a ball bat) was telling her neigbors 9 year old grandson that if their dog came down in her yard again she was gonna beat it's brains out. She found Dallas crying in the backyard and asked what happened and he told her what the lady from down the road said so they called the sheriff on them. I told them about what Patty said about the cat and they think the aunt probably killed it. They need to get that girl out of there.

I agree this is a terrible situation for her to be in.:(

If they are this violent towards animals, I can't imagine what they would do to that poor child. She must be taken out of there immediately. Here in NYC, many children have died at the hands of their own parents because the authorities failed to do their jobs and remove the children from the home. There were always signs but people didn't do anything until it was too late. Keep notifying the authorities Janet and call the local Social Services department. God forbid something happens to that poor baby.:(

That is disgusting! How can you "forget" to feed a cat? Not only that, I'm sure it takes a while for an animal to starve to death. It won't die after one day! Maybe the ASPCA should be called to!? And did anyone ever call Dyfus?

I've already talked with the school and Child Protective Services. I just have to keep them informed of whatever I notice. Last week she got on the bus soaked to the bone. Her and her aunt had been standing out in the rain waiting on me. They have a freakin porch they could have stood under until I arrived. So I told the school and called CPS again. Now, Monday, I have to tell them about the kitty. They are very slow in doing anything. I guess Patty was taken away from them for a couple months awhile back, but those stupid people put her back into that house. CPS, school and law enforcement know all about them.

It is always so hard to reply to threads as this. My heart sinks because there are not enough words to express the sadness of situations as you described.

I understand how feel completely. Wish I could just kidnap her, she's a cute little redheaded doll. To tell you the truth, she already seems way ahead in speech than her aunt, so maybe she'll be able to find her own way out when she is older, if nothing is done by CPS. I know that will be quite awhile, but if nothing else, I can still hope and pray for her.
