I'm a very small time seamstress, but have saved a lot ot money with just what little I know.

Yesterday I cut off and hemmed living room drapes for my Mom. She has a 100" wide window in her new apartment, so you can imagine what new drapes would have cost! The pair she had hung to the floor and her heat vent was behind them, so they had to be shortened for safety sake.

Since I had the sewing machine set up, I decided to rework some drapes I'd bought at GoodWill for $12. There was enough fabric in them to make curtains/valances for 6 windows in my kitchen. and one in the hall besides. Being able to sew just a little bit is the only way I'd have been able to have new cutrains for 7 windows for less than $2 each.

I make the doggies their clothes, but have not tackled curtains/drapes of any kind. I'm really not a big fan of sewing, but I do it for the doggies to save money. I would like to sew more, I think, but there just never seems to be enough time.

I sew a little bit. I used to make clothes for my kids when they were little. I did make the cutest Easter dresses for my two oldest girls when they were little. They were pink and white striped with a big white collar and I cross-stitched little flowers on the collar. I think that they were the nicest things that I ever sewed.

I have curtain toppers cut out for my dining room. I hope to get them done soon. When I do I'm going to post pictures of them.

I'm glad that you've been able to do things and save yourself a lot of money. I know that it always makes me proud of what I've done. I'm sure that you are too!!! (And we'd like pictures, please!!!)

I don't sew at all, My MIL may she rest in peace, use to sew everything for me and my hems. I now have to take them to the cleaners and they are expensive...

I envy you talented women! lol :)

I used to sew a lot when I was able to stay home with the kids and didn't have to work. I made pageant dresses for Traci when she was little. When I have time to find old pictures I will put them on here. (she will kill me but Oh well) She was between two and four when they were made. I haven't sewn in years--probably wouldn't even know how except for little repairs. I keep putting off hemming my son's ROTC pants and repairing Crystal's back pack that has torn up already!

My mother was a very good seamstress and made all our clothes, curtains, even wedding dresses, and she taught me, but haven't sewn much of anything in years. I have her machines and some of my own. Would you believe I have 4 sewing machines, one is a treddle, and one serger. I'd have 5 machines, but one got lost in a move. That's bad to have so many and no time to use them. The one I have setup that I do use a little is one of mothers. It's over 40 years old, but such a good machine. Still get inspired and buy fabric from time to time, but it's in the drawer waiting for someday to come.:p

Sadly, many things in life are like that...waiting for "someday"
