I always watch Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet on Friday night. I've watched it for over a year now. Tonight the Whiskers family leader Flower was killed trying to save her pups from a cobra. I can't believe I cried so hard over this. I don't know if I'm going to be able to watch it anymore.
I am so attached to the Whiskers and their rivals. The thought of another Meerkat taking over as leader disturbs me so much. I wish they would have had a disclaimer on saying Flower had passed on, but it came as such a shock right at the end of the show. My heart is still aching over this.

Aww, how sad!! I only watched one episode of that show (where Flower's daughter was outcast because she was pregnant) but they were so cute and I hate it that the leader died... :(

I've never watched it but I've seen commercials for it. I'm sorry, Janet, that you're sad. It sounds like Flower died a very brave death, fighting to save her pups. Isn't it awful how the shows we watch can affect us so much. Hopefully there will be other meerkats that you'll grow fond of just as much as Flower.

Janet, i'm sorry you feeling sad. It's strange that we can get attached to animals in tv programs, but we do. Like Diana said, she died a brave death trying to save her pups.

Isn't is awful that we can get attached to 'characters/people/animals in shows. I remember when the show Dallas ended. I cried for days. I had only missed one show in the thirteen seasons it was on and that's because the VCR didn't work. I felt like I was losing family members. That they were moving away and I'd never see them again.
Then on Meerkat Manor, I had no idea Flower was going to die and the effect it had on me. When the narrator said she 'suffered a fatal bite' I yelled out NOOO! I just cried. I felt like she was one of my pets or something. Then Saturday morning when I woke up, she was the first thing on my mind...can you believe it!
Maybe the moral of this is I just need to get off my butt and quit watching so much TV.

Janet, that's exactly how I felt when I finished the last Harry Potter book. I mean, it had been a part of my life for SO long and then suddenly it's gone. I still feel sad when I think about the fact that there isn't another book to wait for this time... :(
(I made a post about this once for 4wt, right after I finished the book, but felt silly about it so I never submitted it. It really did make me very sad though...)

Yes it IS awful how we get attached, but it seems like all the good programs/shows, end much faster then others
I've been planning to watch that show. It looks really interesting.
Of course you're devastated when a critter you come to love dies. She was real, even if only on TV - not even acting!
I could never watch Dumbo or Bambi because their mothers died, and I never let my daughter watch them either.
Some people are just softies.
