Does anyone on here suffer from thyroid issues. If so what treatments are you being given and how long did it take for you to see changes.

I think I need to be checked for thyroid issues and any information you guys can share would be greatly appreciated.

I'm hypothyroid. I was diagnosed many years ago. I take levothyroxine daily and remember it took several months for my system to get adjusted but my readings were pretty extreme when diagnosed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. There's a lot involved and affected by it, so I know I had a lot to learn.

Basics: Youmust start the meds gradually because it's a shock to the system and can make bigger problems if you suddenly have too much. It's a delicate balancing act... too much is as bad as too little. You'll need to be tested frequently to start.

I lost 42 lbs in the first 6 months on the meds, but that's not common.

Here are my symptoms...tell me what you think:

My aunt suffers from it so it's always a possibility. I just turned 32 and started tallying up some of this stuff plus when I saw the Dr in August and we checked the no period thing she said we will wait three months more and then run the hormone tests to see. I decided to search online and they had a check list and out of the questions of symptoms I checked a good buit of them. Let me list them:

*Gained weight inappropriately or unable to lose weight (meanwhile I don't eat a lot and I am always on the go)
*Hair is droppng
*Dry skin
*Muscle aches, pains, stiffness
*Extremely irregular periods (never been 28 days but always had it) now it's been almost five months and nothing (no I am not pregnant. Had my tubes tied after my third child two years ago)
*Mood swings
*Extremely low sex drive
*Bumps on the back of my arms (caused by a build up of beta-carotene)
*Headaches
*Vaginal Dryness

I'm hypothyroid too, which is low thyroid levels. There are a lot of symptoms that go with thyroid problems and they're easily found on the internet. It's not hard to check and see if your levels are off. It's just a blood test. Then to get it under contol (if it's low) you just take a pill a day and have your levels checked occasionally. If your levels are high it's a different story and depends on what is causing the problem on how it's treated. The thyroid controls a lot of things in our bodies and if you suspect that you are having problems I strongly suggest that you go and talk to a doctor. The problems will not go away on their own and will only get worse. Good luck and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Here's a site that tells a little about high and low thyroid problems.

Did you go for your tests yet? I hope it's over with and you have your diagnosis and your treatment already.

Well I had the initial blood work done by my GYN and it seems to have come back within the normal range. Now I saw my regular Dr and he is running a host of other test and is sending me for a Thyroid Sono and an XRay for an enlarged lymphnode that he found under my left armpit. We figure the enlargement is from the meds that are kick starting my period. I guess in two weeks we should be closer to finding an answer I hope. If nothing comes from all of that and my period is still non-existent or erratic then I will go to a Endocronoligist.

Aaaah....oh well might as well use that insurance that I pay an arm and a leg for.

Thanks so much for all your help and suggestions ladies.
