Friends are taking my nine year old to Disney. They thought it would take her mind off things and also give me a break. She is only at their house tonight since they are leaving very early in the morning and I already miss her. It will be a wonderful experience for her. She is so excited. It will also give me a chance to have the first chemo and a few days to recuperate. These are wonderful people and will take very good care of her.

Debbie, your little girl is going to have a total blast, it's a wonderful experience for her, that she will never forget. She will come home with so many stories to tell, and pictures to show, i'm thrilled for her. And you will have time to catch your breath after the treatment, make sure to rest, and look after yourself.

*Hugs*

How exciting for your daughter and at 9 years old, she is going to have soooo much fun. Heck, I went at age 42 and I loved it so much. Best vacation I ever had. I would love to go back again.

Take advantage of your time, she's going to have lots to tell you...LOL

She called from the car a while ago. She sounds really excited. She may not be after being in the car for 10 hours but it will be worth it. I have never been so once this is all over maybe we can go and she can show me around.

Dear Debbie,

I'm so happy for you that you have such wonderful friends! You can see how the chemo makes you feel and recuperate a bit, and she can have a ball.

Keep us posted about her adventure.

They arrived around 5:30. They didn't go to the parks since they had been in the car 11 hours. They went to the pool and the lazy river at the resort where they are staying. This couple let her and their 7 year old daughter have the master bedroom with the hot tub in it. She was said she could see the fireworks from Disney from her bed but she got off the phone to go watch them from the balcony. She is already having a ball and hasn't even went to the parks.

She comes back tomorrow, right? I can't wait to see the pics she took either. She's since a little Angie...Photographer in training. She will love showing these pics off. Since they are not digital when you get them developed I want to pay for an extra copy to make her a scrapbook with. I promise it will be better than Angie's turned out. I've learned a few tricks now ^.^.

Good to see here Kate. Crissy is home and still telling stories but she is a very tired little girl. They were on the go non-stop at Disney. She got home about 2 Sunday and had to go to school Monday. She had fun though.

I'm glad she had such a good time! Ask her to write a poem about her favorite thing there.

Katlyn's grandmother, a friend of my friend, was going through her fight against breast cancer and heading for surgery when she brought Katlyn to a poetry workshop for kids at the tea shop. Here's the poem I wrote after Katlyn blew me away with her poems!

To Katlyn and her grandmother, Nanny

Katlyn

Studies Show that Acts of Kindness Benefit the Donor Just as Much as the Recipient

When arriving at Tea Tyme for a children's writing workshop
I find that only one child has arrived ahead of me, a girl of seven years
wearing a black-on-black jaguar-patterned jacket and black jeans;
her pretty brown hair frames bright eyes that spark and glow.

She is a gift who leaps into the unknown as if it were birthday cake─
colorful, lit with swirled candles, and obviously delicious.
Before the hour is over she draws pictures, writes two poems─
produces more than many adults who might have been there

Saying "Oh, no. I can't write. I can't draw." But she, who has set no limits
on herself, no strictures requiring some unreachable standard of creativity,
has created "Snowball," a poem about a bobble-headed cat
and a glorious piece about flying fast as a faerie, vanishing before our eyes.

Delighted, I am blessed to have been the recipient of her gift,
allowed to be the hand that struck the match that lit the candles,
the kitchen help who mixed the batter, poured it into oiled stainless steel,
tucked the batter-filled pan into the oven to watch it rise into a golden cake!

I wish I had the poems Katlyn wrote but she took them home with her and Nanny. By the by - Nanny did just fine, recovered from the surgery she had to have after the chemo and is still getting on! Hope springs eternal!

I'm sure Mom will have the same outcome! She's strong and amazing and ready to fight this till it's completely gone! She's pretty awesome. :)

Thanks so much. I have my down moments. When I was so sick after chemo I really didn't think I could go through another one but after I was well I realized that wasn't the right attitude. God and my kids will get me through.

After some of my surgeries, coming out of the pain mixed with the drugs was awful. I found myself panicking. But when they let my husband and son come to where I am, I count my blessings. Proof of miracles.
