Diana had a good idea. Let's post pics of costumes we have made or put together over the years for ourselves or our kids - how did you make it? Or where did you find all the things you bought to become some character?

We dont really celebrate halloween in this country like you guys do over there, so i have never bought or made myself any halloween costume, but last year i entered my yorkies in a halloween competition, with costumes that i made, and put together myself, so i could post pics of them.

That's great Mandy! Any costumes for any event and any bird, beast or being! In Brasil, we made costumes for Carnival. Lots make New Year's costumes. When do folks dress up for fun where you are?
Mandy

Here we dress up silly for carnaval in febuari, but that too is mainly held in the south. People up north dont do anything for carnaval. :)

Now I find I am guessing the country - North and South with different cultures... Italy? (no pressure to say - privacy on the web trumps everything else)

I hope that you didn't mind, Mandy!

When my son was younger we made a Halloween costume that won a prize at a local store. It was very simple but very different......he went as a boy walking on his hands.
I took a muslin sack and painted a face on it then sewed a cap on it's head. I sewed the head onto an old shirt of my husbands. Then I took a pair of jeans and put them over my son's head (we had to cut holes to see and to breathe). I pinned the shirt to the jeans. I, also sewed stuffed gloves on top of a pair of socks which went on his feet and then I put shoes and socks on his hands! It was a lot cuter in person even then it is in the photo.
What made it so funny was that people didn't know where to look for my son's face at. You could see their eyes going up and down to find his head. You know it makes us uncomfortable to look at someone's crotch!!!! The only problem was he would get very hot and uncomfortable so it came off and on alot!!!! That was a fun year!!

My family's been in the US for years but I'm German and French with a little Irish! We've been here long enough that we don't have any traditions from another country.
I have grown up in the area that I live (southeast Kansas). I'm married to a farmer (33 years) and we have 4 children (2 are married) and 5 grandchildren. My family all lives within a mile of me and we're very close. I'm a homemaker but occasionally help my husband with the farm work. This year's been difficult because we live in an area that was flooded. It didn't affect my home but my husband's shop and equipment went under and our crops were hurt. It was a very interesting time!

I was raised in a family that honored traditions from all sides. We celebrated both Christian and Jewish holidays as well as pagan and secular days like Halloween. There are Germans, English, Scottish, American back to the Mayflower and my father was an immigrant. We have Quakers, Congregationalists, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Reform Jews, Orthodox Jews and Christian fundamentalists.
I spent Christmas's at the Catholic church, sang in the Episcopalian and Presbyterian choirs, attended services at a Unitarian church and worked at the Quaker meeting house. Family visited from Australia, Canada, England, across the US, Germany and more. French, German, Latin, Portuguese, Japanese and English - and pig-Latin were spoken in my home. My nephews speak Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish.
I have a 5-greats grandmother who may have been a Native American, whalers, pilgrims, presidents, the head of Scotland Yard, artist, writers, historians - all sorts of people I can never live up to in the family. Even one who was instrumental in getting the wall to come down in Berlin.
But - when it comes to costumes, crafts, having fun, and raising a child in a loving, nurturing, great family - I take after my mother and I am pretty good!
I have just one child - he was in so much pain when he was little that we knew we could not do for him and for another. Of course, we had everyone else's kids in our house all the time when he was small!
I will post some costume pics later - I only have a couple I think, we moved last year and gave away a lot - we are still in that process of getting rid of what we can't afford to live with now.

My kids are grown so no longer have any of their costumes. Oh i have a picture of my daughter who dressed up as a belly dancer. She was like 5 then. Oh my she looked sooo beautiful.
Hubby and I have gone to a few Halloween parties - OH those were fun!! I went as a cop and hubby my prisoner. Hmmm, don't think much has changed there :D
Schatzie my Yorkie dressed up a couple years ago. I thought she looked sooo sweet! :p
If we post pics do we do it here on on the "picture" area? :camera: :camera:

You should be able to post here in the thread using the "paper clip" button above the post window to the right of the smiley face. There are other ways I think DianaB uses - maye she can tell us.

Wow Diana! What a cute costume! I've never made my own costumes since I don't have children yet, but my mom and Traci used to LOVE to make costumes for me when I was little. I was dressed up like I was in a beauty pageant one year, a smurf another year, a witch another time, lots of random stuff. They always did a great job on the costumes!

OK ~ we can post pics here.... lets go girls, i wanna see ALL those costumes :D
Heres Chelsey "Beach Bum"
And Chanel "The Witch"
I had made both of them the same witch costumes, but for some reason, Chelsey HATED it, and REFUSED to look at the camera, usually she loves her picture taken, but wasnt planning on co?perating, with the silly hat on her head lol
DianaB

Some how the beach bum picture just doesn't fit with the Chelsey that we know and love! And she certainly wasn't happy with the witch costume!!! How cute!!!!
Wow, Kate, you come from a very diverse background. I thought that it was a little different to ask about my cultural heritage because it's not something that I think about. I don't know anyone that has a back ground like yours. My family has been in the US for years and years. I couldn't tell you when the last of my family immigrated here and I don't have any family that we are connected to outside of the US. I can see where your holidays would be interesting!

Mandy, that's so cute! How'd you get that cigarette to stay there? Is it tied on somehow or is she just holding it in her mouth?

Wow, Mandy! What fun! (My guys would have disowned me if I costumed our dog.) Those are incredibly cute. Does your puppy like all the attention?
Yes, Diana, it was a bit different but I enjoyed it. It's funny. All my siblings ended up with different faiths for the most part. One brother is a Presbyterian and so is his wife, my sister is a Presbyterian too but her husband is Jewish, another brother and his wife are Fundamentalists, and my older brother and his wife are Quakers.
I am non-denominational I suppose. We don't seem to ever find a church that accepts us and is also inspiring. Unitarian churches allow our beliefs but the services don't uplift me. I have a friend married to the rabbi at the local Messianic Jewish temple but their mix of traditional Jewish service with Christian just doesn't click for me. One of my students is Islamic but the rules and fears of that faith in the way she has been raised do not appeal either.
But what does that have to do with costumes? Egads!

Diana, you are right, the beach bum, doesnt fit her personallity at ALL!! LOL... :D
Angie, i put the sigarette in her mouth, she just held it there, so i took quite a lot of pics, after i was finished, i took the sig. away, she wasnt at all pleased about that - maybe because i kept telling her how gorgeous she looked hahaha
Kate, she loves her picture taken, both my girls usually pose very well without too much "drama" unless they tired, or irritable.

There you go, Mandy, starting her on the road to a bad habit. First it starts with just holding a cigarette in her mouth then the next thing you know she'll be lighting it up!!!! Bad Momma!!! LOL
Mandy, I just love the pics they are soooo cute.....Gucci is going to be dressed as a pumpkin this halloween, I will take pics and have you post them ...lol Great job!:)

My son dressed up for a few years, but didn't really like Halloween very much. I would've liked for him to dress up more, but couldn't come up with very good ideas. Most of his costumes were the cheap store bought kind when he was little.
All those pictures are packed away too and were not digital.
I've never dressed the doggies up in costumes. They where their clothes from time to time, but never costumes.
Those pictures were so cute of your girls...

Diana - what an amazing costume your son wore. LOVE it!!! It's incredible!! :D
Mandy - I just love these pics of the girls. Always smile and my heart warms when I look at Chelsey and Chanel.
Here is a pic of Schatzie taken awhile back. I made her a ballerina outfit. I have not dressed her up since, LOL. Not sure what will happen for this Halloween ;)
I have tons of pix of Jessie in costumes. Of course, we did the Halloween thing and she also was going to become an actress, so has been in lots of productions. She
has a voice like an angel! Unfortunately, like Janet's, these pictures aren't digital.
I also have some beauties of my grandchildren in their Halloween costumes - also not digital.
I do have a few of Max in last year's Halloween costume. It's not in this computer.
Maybe I can find it.
Diana - that is the cutest kid costume! It's so clever.
Of course, all of the Yorkies look adorable. Tink - how about your dogs? Do they go trick or treating?

Ooo I went out on Saturday night! My costume wasn't the greatest, but it was something! I went as a mafia mobster chick and met a bunch of friends at a karaoke kinda bar.
My brother crashed his new suv on Saturday so I had to go pick him up and drive him around for 2 hours looking for a halloween costume for a house party! It was last-minute and he ended up finding a ninja turtle costume for 12 year olds hahaha so he had to kind of improvise with it.
1. My pumpkin, just because I'm proud of it!
2. My friend Kandace (GI Jane) and I (mafia chick)
3. My big brother, the ninja turtle.
