Every fall when the weather turns cold and dreary I pick a really awful day and make homemade gingerbread cake and top it with Cool-whip. It's always something that my kids looked forward to.
Well, today it's been rainy and a lot cooler than it has been so I've got gingerbread cake in the oven and the kids have been called to bring over the grandkids after school. The house is about to get lively with all of their little voices.
I have one daughter that I didn't call because she won't be able to get off work and I don't want her to feel left out. Also, my daughter-in-law and son-in-law won't be here either but they'll all show up after work. I can't wait for them to get here!!!!!

It does feel like fall - Unbelievably cold outside, brrrrrr! I think about right now Id do anything for a piece of that gingerbread cake, YUMMMY!
I thought since it was cold Id make a chicken/sausage gumbo today. Ummm, nope the roux turned out horrible so I dumped it out, LOL. Oh well, we will have tostadas instead. :D
Diana - I think that cold front is to stand over your state and mine the next couple days. I think it would be best if we just stay inside, keep warm, and do nothing. Whatcha think?

It was really cold here this morning, too. Guess it's really fall. It's supposed to be beautiful this weekend.

I love that site Marilyn!! That's one of the great benefits of living in the computer era--we can learn things without having someone teach us. It opens up so many possibilities! There are a lot of recipes I would've never learned had it not been for the internet...

The ginerbread turned out wonderful and it came out of the oven just as the kids starting getting here. The grandkids had to have "Grandma's homemade Hot Cocoa" with their cake. They think that the cocoa is better then anyone elses!!! It makes me feel good!!!!
My son and his 2 girls and son had to leave early because they had something going on at the school. I would have loved to go but I had told a daughter that I would make her roast and noodles for supper to go over mashed potatoes!!! My other daughter, Amy and her family stayed for supper with us. She told me that she thought that every cold day should be "Gingerbread Day".

I wish that I lived close enough to all of you that you could have dropped in for a piece of gingerbread cake. It really has turned into a neat tradition. My youngest daugher, Jaci, said that she told herself on the way home that it should be a gingerbread day and when she saw my son and his family pull out of their driveway and head to my house she KNEW where he was going!!!!!

It's such a simple thing but something that has become so special to my family. I hope that someone's inspired to do something like that for their family!

You've definitely inspired me Diana. I think I might bake cookies today! (since I don't have children and grandchildren I can get together...)
