So in order to help us all stay focused on the positive, I thought it would be fun to have a "positives" thread where we can share all of the good things in our lives, no matter how big or small.

My positive today is that I have a few really awesome professors. :)

What is your positive for the day (or the week)?

katepoet

I have a great new student as of today!

We are going to drinks lots of wine and carve pumpkins. Gotta love it!!

Hope everyone has a positive weekend. :p

My posiitive for today is that I'm enjoying the pups so much. Lily is going to be a handful for a while, but at least her problems are ones we can deal with.

I ran into a woman I know at the vets office today and she'd just gotten a diagnosis that spells early death on a 4 month old golden retirever pup that she recently bought to add to her breeding program. I felt SO bad for her, but so lucky for me.

katepoet
10-26-2007, 10:35 PM
Wow, Tink, that's really hard for the woman with the sick pup. I'm glad you don't have to deal with that right now.

My brother and his wife breed Goldens in NJ - they recently found a good home for Libby who has retired from breeding :)

Good news? The rain is still coming down.

I went to an auction today and didn't spend a lot of money...!!

So what did you get? Anything?

My daughter, Dae Lynn, and I went to an auction last weekend and she bought a really good washer and dryer and a Kirby sweeper. The sweeper cost her $30 and is fairly new and has a lot of accessories!!! I had to talk her into the sweeper but now that she's used it she loves it!!!

 I guess that my positive for today is that my daughter has found a real cute little house to rent and is moving out this weekend. I'll miss having her around every day but she really needs to be out on her own. Her rent is very reasonable and the house is in good shape!!!

How do you find out about auctions and where they are and such? I'd love to go to one, but I don't know where or when...

My positive today is that I have strong prospects for 3 of the remaining 5 pups.
I would LOVE to get them all sold soon so I can decide how to go ahead... I've really enjoyed this and would love to do it again with a spring litter, but I promised myself if the pups don't sell quickly I won't. So this gives me hope!

They are usually advertised in the classifieds of your newspaper. They will have a listing of some of the main items in the sale and then there are tons of misc. Today my Mom came too and bought a really nice microwave (hers is starting to go out) for only $2.00. It was clean and works like a charm.

I know what you're saying Tink. Puppies are a lot of work and I was really glad all of mine found wonderful, loving homes. But now I'm ready for more and I'll have to wait until early 2008....bummer!:(

My positive for today is that I'm sitting on my couch, with a comfy red quilt over my legs, Max is sleeping on the arm of the couch, the little one is in the dog bed, and I'm having a nice relaxing morning on 4WT. The cleaning woman was supposed to come today, but she must have gotten mixed up, so it's nice and quiet.

In about 15 minutes, I'll get up, get dressed, set up the dogs - and I'm off to get my hair done, go to the dentist (still going Marilyn?), get some groceries, and come home to get right back under this red quilt.

Life is so good!

Hmm...my positive is similar to Judy's. I'm sitting here on 4wt, Marty cuddled up on my lap, and I'm done with class for today so there's nothing really pressing to do. It's a nice feeling!

Like Janet said, they're in the newspaper. We have a pretty small town newspaper and they really stand out so they're easily seen. There's also a newspaper that's for a large area, kind of a trader newspaper, and it always has a lot of auctions within an hour or twos drive.

My positive for today is that the first of the puppies is leaving this afternoon for her new home with someone I really like. I got the 4th and final worming done, the shot was done last week, the puppy health records to go home with each of them are filled out and other than giving her a bath before she picks her up, she's all ready to go.

I'm waiting for final confirmation, but I believe there will be 2 going tonight. A cream girl and a white boy.

2 more go on Sunday.

OH and Lily is really doing noticeably better already! She's peeing easier, more at a time, and is getting spunkier. Amazingly, Moses is tolerating her better, and he even ate WITH one of her brothers last night out of HIS food bowl. He still growls like Chewbaka when she gets too close, but at least he's not snapping at her like he was. SO I have several positive things today! :)

Tink, sounds like things are going well for you and the puppies! :) Congrats!

Sheryl, WTG on the housecleaning! I bet you feel so productive! Now it's time to sit back and relax girl!

Another positive for me is that Mom is doing well. She got GREAT news about the size of her cancer. It has, after only one treatment, gotten noticeably smaller! It's pretty rare for this kind of result to happen after just a single treatment so her doctor was very happy! :):):)

My positives today are:

1. 2 more pups went to their new homes this morning and the families were really nice people. They were both so excited about getting their pups that they arrived early and stayed quite a while just visiting and playing with the whole litter.

2. I'm half done with my Christmas shopping and it's ALL paid in full, plus I have enough set aside to finish up without assuming any debt to get done. WHEW

3. My youngest has finally decided to enroll in college! She's decided she wants to be a counselor for troubled teens.

Ok... you girls have big positives, but thought ide share a few little ones of mine.

Chelsey won in 2 Halloween contests, on YT i posted the pic with a ciggy in her mouth, on the other site the mad GREEN rabbit pic. Soon as we found out, i told her SHE WON, she walked around swishing her little booty, Chanel did the booty dance for her, it was so freaking cute LOL

My second, and VERY IMPORTANT positive is, my son told my husband, and me on thursday night, that he would love to go back to playing drums!!!!!
He started playing when he was 10 years old, and stopped 2 years ago, he has played for the public a few times. He took private lessons, he really is an excellent drummer, and now a friend of his, has asked him to join hes band, they looking for a drummer, so he asked us what we thought about it.
On monday i'm enrolling him in for music school here in town, they give evening classes, my husband is looking for new drums for him, because i sold the ones he had.
He has such talent for this, we both told him to use hes talents, and never let them go to waste, he is now old enough to understand what we mean :)

Mandy, big or small, reading about the good things in your life (and the other ladies lives) really brings a smile to my face. That's why I love this thread. And besides, those aren't even small!!

Congrats to Chelsey and as for you son, how exciting!! You'll have to post a video of him playing. :)

Today's positives:
~I start taking the Seasonique today so hopefully that means less pain in the future.
~Brendon's dad is coming over today and his step-mom may be going to jail again. (This is DEFINITELY a positive. When she is home, she doesn't allow Brendon's dad or brother to have a relationship with him. They have to sneak around if they want to see him at all.)

rivermom

I hope the new medi works wonders for you too! Pain free is definitely a good thing!

Sheryl, she is a VERY evil woman. She has done SO many things that she deserves to go to jail for...what she ACTUALLY went to jail for was embezzlement. Twice! The first time she stole $30,000 in checks from a church she worked for (and an undetermined amount of cash) and the second time, she stole over $1,000 from a car company she worked for. I don't know all of the details this time, but it seems she's up to the same stuff again. Brendon was thrilled when he found out. (Pretty sad, but she really needs to be kept away from his younger brother.)

If you had dealt with her, you'd feel she is beyond help as well. She practically tortured my husband when he was growing up. The things he's told me I shutter to even think about...

katepoet
11-04-2007, 12:56 PM
I believe you - no doubt - just know that she'll be out again sometime.

I knew a man who was evil incarnate - drug dealer, murderer - once I was looking at him, listening to him talk about something - and flames appeared in his eyes - I swear it! I looked over my shoulder but there was nothing there to reflect in his eyes, just blue sky. I looked back and the flames were gone. Really spooked me. (No, I don't do drugs and yes, I had plenty of sleep.)

I do believe humans can make hell on earth when they choose evil.

Conversely, I believe we can be angelic, heavenly - when we choose compassion, love, empathy - and you are one of those angels, Angie. You are making a piece of heaven for your husband. So glad he has you!:40:

Thanks Angie for explaining. I didn't wanna step on your toes or invade your privacy for asking. I was just sorta confused, LOL. (happens often) To give peace w/in Brendon and the family this might possibly be just what needs to happen.

She does sound like she's done some pretty amazingly wrong and hurtful things. Hopefully if she does go to that big ol slammer she will receive some needed help.

Sheryl, haven't you ever heard that insane people think that they're sane and that sane people think that they're insane? So......what are you again?

My Dad had mental problems and it always came up when he was having problems that he "was not insane". I have some pretty interesting stories I could tell about my Dad. He was paranoid schizophrenic.

You sound totally sane to me. I don't think sanity is all that great anyway! If you're hearing voices in your head, and they're making you laugh - well then. what the h?

No - seriously - why are worrying about your sanity? You really do sound perfectly normal.

It was a joke...that's all. As I told Diana and Angie, I am NOT hearing voices. :D
I'm not worrying about my sanity. Oh trust me, I've got issues just as we all do but really I am normal. Just normal....bummer cuz it could be interesting if I wasn't, LOL :p

My positive for this morning.

I got a call from a couple who saw the pups last weekend. They made an appointment to come back on Saturday and pick theirs out! They're torn between 2 and said they might have to take both so they each get their way. LOL (I wish!)

They've been looking for a long time and had seen many litters prior to mine. They said they hadn't seen any that looked as healthy, friendly or better socialized, so they decided to buy from me. :D Now THAT's what I like to hear!

Sheryl, in one of my classes a few semesters ago, we had to say a positive at the beginning of every class. On days when it was difficult to think of one, the generic response was "I'm here" or "I'm alive". If you think about it, those in and of themselves are positives. So if you ever can't think of one...there ya go! :)

That's an excellent way to start the class off Angie. I think it's great also that you started this thread. Many of us can get wrapped up into our own personal issues/life that it fogs our ability to see our "positives". Thanks. I don't know about making the world a better place, but I do know it brightens a childs day. Doing so is what I enjoy most. Our outtings together are anything from lunch and a movie to simple days of hanging out together. Our relationship has grown and the only difficult aspect would be trying to schedule our time together within our busy lives.

I always find the hard part of working with "my kids" is that I can't fix everything for them. I am sure what you do will never be forgotten. The space away from stress and worry when one is just accepted and allowed to be a kid is often the most important in a child's life.

It's sunny, 55 degrees, and mid November in Wisconsin! That's amazing in itself.

My 19 yr old dd has been sick the past 2 days with her wisdom teeth coming in and an ovarian cyst acting up again, but is looking far better today so that's another positive.

I won an auction at Ebay on a brand new power convertor/invertor for DH for Christmas. It retails for $349 and with shipping included I got it for $127... so that's a Big savings! It will allow him to hook it up in his semi so he can power a tv, coffeemaker, microwave, etc. I figure as much time as he spends in the truck he should have a few more comforts of home. It should arrive today or tomorrow so I can get it hid before he gets home. :) My puppy money is coming in handy for Christmas shopping!

My oldest granddaughter is in second grade. She's got grandparents day coming up on Friday at school, so has invited me to come spend the night Thursday night and go to school with her on Friday.

Everyone's positives are so nice!

Mine is that my daughter has been calling, my granddaughter, Mackenzie, called me twice. The baby, Kassidy, keeps getting on the phone with her little 5 year old voice saying "I love you Grandma Judy." It just is so good. Brandon, who is 6, and all boy, can't be bothered, but keeps yelling "I love you," so I can hear him.

I ordered 3 platters of side dishes to be delivered on Tuesday. I have to go to Toys R Us for their presents as soon as I find out what Brandon wants. What a waste of money! They have more toys than they'll ever need. But, that's for another thread.

I'm going up on Wednesday and leaving on Friday. Short and sweet.

I'm going to give my daughter a check for a house warming gift.

I still can't believe it!

Her husband got on the phone for a minute to talk to her. I said Hi to him. His response was less than warm, but I have to expect that and not react.

I'm really praying that it goes smoothly.

I'm so excited for you Judy! I'm sorry he wasn't very warm to you, but at least you get to hear those sweet little grandbabies tell you how much they love you and you get to have a relationship with your daughter. I'd say it's worth it to just bite your tongue and ignore him...He's the one missing out by being mean to you!

I'm very excited for you Judy, remember, it's NOT about him, it's about your own babies, he is just "the spare wheel" and it's not your duty to go out of your way for him, he is way younger, and needs to bring up respect for you.

Greg and I have made reservations to go to his company Christmas party for the first time in many years. They're having a banquet, driver awards, a dance, and we're all staying in the hotel at a casino. Having never been in a casino before, we're rather looking forward to it.
We never go anywhere... have never taken a vacation... so for us this is quite an event! LOL

I will do my best to just smile and pay him no mind! I got what I wanted. I am nervous though because if he gets mad enough and tell her to make me leave, I don't know how strong she is.

I don't care what he says, I just hope and pray that she doesn't. I don't think she'll do that to the children though. It seems to be very important to her that they have me in their lives.

Anyway, thanks for the advice - it's very true!

That's so nice Sheryl! Hug away!

My positive is that my dogs are laying nicely together on the couch near me - the jealousy is passing slowly. Now she gets jealous if I kiss him (she's at that 5 month puppy stage). I love having two.

I'm also going to the dentist, which is a good thing because it brings me closer to finishing.

Oh...and I got a check for $360.00 unexpectedly for some medical bills last week and one for $115.00 yesterday because I seem to have overpaid a bill ?????? I did?
Whatever. Thanksgiving is now paid for!

I also got quite a few really nicely priced condo listings located in a lovely little town,
Hyde Park.

And, last but not least, at least they found out what's wrong with Janet's Mom.

Since my Mom and oldest daughter and her family live in the same town just over an hr away,
I'm taking my Mom out to eat tonight then spending the night at her place.
In the morning she and I will go to my granddaughters school for grandparents day.
So I'll get to see 3 generations of my family in the next 24 hrs. :)

On my way back home I will stop in the city and do a little shopping.

My positive today has got to be the fantastic level of caring and support I've gotten from friends today about my daughters news.It helps a lot to not feel as if I'm wading in these murky waters all alone.

It's also helped that Katie herself took several steps today to get to a dr, arrange for pregnancy counseling, called and told her dad what's going on, and got good support and information from her own friends who have been in her shoes.

I always try to value my friends, but they're never more appreciated than when I truly need them and they're here for me.

I had my third chemo today. I have one Dec. 11 and that will be the last really strong one. I will see the surgeon after that to see if the surgery is possible then but that is not likely. At least then the other 4 chemo's will be a lot lighter so not as much nausea and fatigue. My levels are still up so they haven't dropped during either one of my treatments. God is good.:)
