After I left the school to take the kids home, the assist. principal came over the radio and said to be careful (what does he think we do, race?) because there was a bank robbery at a bank near the school. We are a country school and the only bank is at Michigantown. I turn right beside it, my first stop is at the house behind it. The bank is right on a highway through town. As I looked north I saw flashing lights..
My son was in his car ahead of me and said that they were chasing someone in a van, he didn't know the bank had been robbed. It surely will be on the news or radio soon, it's the 3rd or 4th time it's been robbed, IF indeed that is the bank.

It's really strange how there just seems to be sooooo many bank robbery's across the states lately. You'd think with all the latest technology and such banks would be a difficult target.
There sure are alot of "Bonnie and Clyde" wanna be's out there....And what's even stranger is they seem to continue getting away w/ these crimes.
We have a new law or whatever one wants to call it here in Arkansas due to the amount of recent bank robbery's. Upon entering a bank no longer are sun glasses or hats allowed to be worn within the bank. I think of this everytime i go through the drive through, hahahaha. (normally wearing sun glasses)

This small bank has two doors you go through. The first is a metel detector and if it goes off the second door doesn't open. It's been robbed 3 or 4 times and no one has ever been caught.

That's too bad, Janet. At least you weren't trying to drive the bus through all of that confusion.
I think that the reason that banks are robbed more now is because of everyone's finances. I can see people getting desperate because it is so much harder to make a living now and people have so much debt.
I think Diana is right. People are losing homes in record numbers right now so they're not only financially ruined, they're mad at the banks... so take it out on them. Small town banks are actually a pretty easy target I would think. I know when I worked at the bank one of the first things they taught us was what to do should we get robbed. It never happened, but seriously, there wasn't a lot happening to prevent it.

It's 6:30 AM and so far nothing on the news. Sure wish I knew what happened.

I think our Assist. Principal had it wrong. None of the banks in our county were robbed, a robber was being chased through our county on the highway our school is on. That's what the flashing lights must have been.

There is truly something wrong when violent crime escalates like this - they know they are being caught on camera and don't care - it's a strange commentary on our society. What are we doing to fix it?

That does make a lot of sense. It is becoming apparent that many folks are in despair.

I didn't either but due to the ration of local robbery's they thought this might help. Who knows??? I'm keeping my happy butt in the drive through, hah haa. :p

I don't know, but I bet that most of these bank holdups are not the folks out of their homes and p-o'd at the banks. It's part of the changing social mores and the way that more and more people feel disenfranchised from society so do not have any compunction about damaging other people's dreams.
I wonder whether we can find some research about this group of people that would give us an idea of who they really are. Maybe the FBI website - they have some good articles in their bulletin. FBI (http://www.fbi.gov/publications/leb/leb.htm)
September's issue has a good article on "Street Gang Mentality."
Here's a link to unknown bank robbers (http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/unkn/unkn.htm).
This article is from 1997 but it gives some a little info on who bank robbers were turning out to be bank robbers (http://www.fbi.gov/publications/leb/1997/apr973.htm)

I just don't have all that sorta time on my hands to research. But I bet Mandy does, she never does anything. LMAO!!! (which by the way she knows I love her and can get away with saying this!))

I've been doing all that criminal justice research lately so it wasn't a big leap to think of the FBI newsletter.
