View Full Version : Input On Mattresses
Ladies, help me out here... I just had a new mattress and box spring delivered today. I went into store thinking that I was buying a pillowtop with memory. I ended up with a plush mattress. I didn't realize it until they delivered that it was not a pillowtop. I went back to the store and the salesman explained how he told us the difference that the pillowtop is a little softer so my husband chose the one we have. He said sleep on it..lol if you don't want it you can return it.
My question is I didn't realize how confusing buying a mattress is, and its not cheap either. So does anyone have a pillowtop ? are they better than the others? Help me. One thing I don't like about these mattresses is they are so high I think I need a bedrail...lol how to elderly people get in their beds...lol Any input is appreciated..

Yes, mattresses are confusing. We have a pillow top air mattress by Select Comfort. Even this company has a lot of different kinds of mattresses. Talk to your husband and see if it's what he ordered and try it out. He said that you can return it if you don't like it.
I am not worrying about the company not taking it back. You say you have a pillow top to are you happy with it? That seems to be a big item seller today. I guess its just a matter of preference. I was confused when I ordered the mattress I thought that I was receiving a pillowtop. I will see how I like this one.. Thanks Diana for your input..

We need a new mattress so bad. We bought one last summer for my son and it's already sinking in the middle. It wasn't cheap either. I'm not real happy, but they won't take it back. Since hubby just went back to work, it will be awhile before I'll have it saved to purchase one for us. Then I'll be here too Gina...asking the same questions..lol
Oh I HATE buying a new mattress!
Greg likes a firm bed for his specific back problems and I like a very soft one for mine. We really should just get twin beds and both sleep comfortably. LOL

We use an air mattress on top of our box spring. It's more comfortable than our old mattress which had one of the old pillowtops - not as thick as today's - but the air mattress is so much better for my sore muscles, I sleep much better on it. They even make them with separate compartments for the two sides of the bed so you don't roll each other around.
I'll look it up in Consumer's if you give me some parameters - size for example.

Janet, did your mattress come with a warranty? You might want to check and see then try contacting the company.

Tink, the Select Comfort air bed like we have would be perfect for you and Greg. My husband has his set on almost the highest number and his side is as hard as a rock and my side is much lower and has some give to it. We have a king size and it took us a while but we really love it!

Gina, the pillow top on our mattress isn't very thick so it's not too noticable. I think that there is a more expensive one that has a thicker pillow top and it does make the bed much taller. I would need a step stool just so I could get in!!!! Good luck with what ever you decide.
