I think that it was last spring where several of you posted pictures of your homes. I have finally gotten my house in order so I could take pictures and get them posted on here. I really enjoy my home and I hope that you enjoy it as well!

And here's the kitchen!!!
If you look, in several of the pictures you'll see little miniature cabinets. I collect cabinets, cupboards, and antique children's dishes from the 1900's to about 1930's.
I hope that you enjoyed my Home Tour! I'll see about getting some holiday pictures in after I get it decorated.

Diana your home is so beautiful, makes me want to tear mine down and start over. I love those long windows so much. Seems like I have things sitting everywhere, I want the clean uncluttered look you have.

Janet, it doesn't look like this all the time. That's why a picture wasn't posted earlier!!!!! And there's things tucked out of sight in the picture too!!!! Usually the long counter in the kitchen is cluttered from one end to the other!!!!!!
I do love my long windows. We lived in an old farmhouse before and had to put plastic on the windows to help keep it warm in the winter but you couldn't see out of them so when we designed our house it was with big windows all around. I love it when it snows in the winter because no matter what room you walk into you can see the snow!! I think that's why I like for it to snow!
BTW-I remember the pictures of your house and it was very cute!!!

I, also, just got rid of a HUGE pile of clothes in my bedroom when we had our garage sale a couple of weeks ago that had been sitting there for about a year. Otherwise you wouldn't have seen a picture of that room!

Your home is very warm and inviting. Your windows are very nice. Oh, now you've done it. I need to get off here and go clean. After the holiday, mine needs some organizing.
Hope you have a nice winter so you can enjoy that snow!!!!

I need to find the thread with everyone's photos of home. I enjoy so much looking at other peoples homes. Maybe if I get my holiday decorations up I'll post some more. That's what we need a thread for holiday decorations!
Also forgot to ask, is your dining room paper or faux paint? I have some faux painting done in my family room, but it's darker, I really like what you have in your dining room.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I hope that you all know that if you're ever going through southeast Kansas that I DO have a guest room that's available to you!!!
Janet, my dining room is faux painted. I picked up this technique from a friend and it's so cheap and easy to do. Basically it's sponge painting except I used a plastic bag (like a Wal-mart sack---Make sure that you turn it inside out because the printing on the bag bleeds). I painted the wall my base color, which was cream, sponged on a dark color, then a lighter color, then my base color. I used a darker and lighter taupe but I've heard of people using two different colors. It's very easy, just make sure that you don't stay in one spot too long with one color! Oh, and after you dab the sack in the paint make sure you have some old newspapers or a piece of cardboard to dab off some of the excess paint.

I didn't use a sack on mine...I used a sponge roller with odd shapes on it and then a smaller odd shaped sponge to blend with. After the first of the year, I may go with how you did yours with the baggie.
Janet, the thread showing holiday decorations sounds like a great idea! I'd enjoy that a lot.

Wow, what a pretty home Diana! It's just lovely! You did a great job decorating.
Does the antique phone in your living room work is it just for looks? That's so cool!
Diana,
What a lovely home! You have a creative gift. I love antiques. Your hallway ironing board is fabulous, as are all the other antiques. I really love your bedroom. It's just downright pretty!
I think the snow covered trees you can see through the windows really add to the beauty and warmth of the house.

The antique phone is in my dining room, and no, it doesn't work. It doesn't have any insides to it.
I've bought a lot of my antiques at Canton, Tx, and that's one of them. I worked and worked trying to talk the vendor into coming down on the price. I finally did after several days......a whole $5!!!!

I have one of those phones too Diana. Our neighbors (both now deceased) had this phone in there home when the telephone company here started. It was their first phone in this house. It worked up until the phone company upgraded. All the insides are still there.
Ruth passed away quite a few years ago and then when Dick passed, they held an auction. It's so great that I have something of one of the best neighbors you could ask for. Dick was a prankster so it's so fun to relive some of the memories of him and his wife.
Well shoot, I'm going to go ahead and tell you one: I had four wooden ducks out in my yard, the mama and 3 babies. Well one morning I walked out to get the mail. On my way back to the house there were my ducks....... and 3 yellow rubber duckies following behind them. I thought what the heck!!!! Where did those come from. I left them there, but it took months before Dick fessed up to it. He and Ruth had been out shopping and he just couldn't resist playing a trick on me. He even kept a straight face everytime we mentioned to him that we still couldn't figure out who did it. What a character!!

That's neat that you have a phone too and even know the people who used it. It makes things even more special. Do you have it hung up?
Your neighbor sounds like quite a character! It must have been really funny to find those 3 little rubber ducks in your yard with your wooden ones!!! And he even kept a straight face when you mentioned it to him!!!!!! LOL He sounds like someone I would have really liked!!!!!
That's a great story Janet. People like Dick who love life, are such a gift.
My first hubby and I had a phone like that that did work. It was still in the late 60's, so I guess the phone co. hadn't changed over yet. We had one phone co. in NYC.
We called it Ma Bell. (Bell Telephone Co.).
They were a monopoly, so had to change and the confusion afterwards was amazing! Most people stuck with Ma Bell - you paid your bill and your phone always worked, no surcharges, fix-it charges, etc.
It's good to be older. I remember lots of stuff that makes me smile.
Anyway, that phone wasn't clear so we only used it once or twice. You had to dial on another phone of course, and then you could talk on the old one. My ex#1's uncle was so adorable. He had taken it from work, where it still hung in the 60's, and gave it to us.

Janet - that story about the rubber ducks is hilarious!! They left you with two special gifts. One being the phone and the other your precious memories of two very special neighbors.
Diana - How long have you been collecting antiques? All the little details in your home add such a nice touch.
I don't collect antiques as a hobby but have a few pieces that I enjoy. I think my favorite and oldest is an autograph book (what some would call a "year book") that belonged to my Great Grandmother. It has hand written inspirations from her classmates dated in the 1800's.

.......Diana - How long have you been collecting antiques? All the little details in your home add such a nice touch.......
Thanks for the compliment, Sheryl. I've collected antiques since the "country style" came in, probably early 1980's. I have a sister-in-law that had a lot of family stuff that she decorated with and I really liked the way that she decorated so I started picking up some things here and there.
I think that I have an eclectic way of decorating and if I like it I'll make it go somewhere. I have a hard time getting rid of things because I buy things that I really like! Most of my things are from flea markets, garage sales, and eBay, and occasionally an auction. I bought my coffee table from an auction this spring for $17!!!! I knew the person that was selling it and it was an expensive table.

I love going to flea markets and auctions too. We don't have alot of flea markets here, have to travel a little ways, but auctions go on every weekend. I've picked up a few things myself.

Thanks, Kat! I was just really surprised that this was back up. Since Janet had posted about my stove I just automatically thought that it was her that brought this back up but it really doesn't matter. I sure wish that it looked that clean right now!!! LOL! Thank you so much for your compliment!!!! We really enjoy our home!
