I watched my son put his car in the ditch!!

I thought it was his car I saw on the road ahead of me, so when I turned onto the same road I saw his left turn signal go on and then the car slide to the right. I knew what had happened!! I just stopped and made him get on the bus.

When I dropped him off at the high school, he had the nerve to say...if you get it pulled out and back to school...I stopped him right there and said...NOT GOING TO HAPPEN SON!!!

He will like it even less when I drive him to work!!! Sometime today a tow truck will bring his car home. It will cost my son $40 so maybe if he starts having to spend his money he'll slow down a little bit. That was the first thing he said to me......."I started slowing down early Mom so I wouldn't slide"...I'm thinking yeah right!!! obviously not slow enough.

I do have to say...on my way home I went back by where his car is in the ditch and it just made me so sick in my stomach. Knowing it could have been worse and it was MY son's car. I don't think I'm going to make it through winter.

Thank God he's ok Janet. I think most of us end up hitting the ditch a time or 2 before we learn our limitations.

Deep breaths... you'll both survive it. LOL

I sure hope so Tink...I'm still having a case of the nerves...I feel shaky inside. I'd take a Xanax, but they kind of frown on that while driving a bus loaded with kids....LOL I'll wait and take one this evening if I need it.

I just hope he realizes things like this can happen in an instant.

I'm sure that he's learned a great lesson from landing in the ditch and will respect icy roads even more. It can happen to the best of drivers too so don't be too hard on him. Small price to pay for a BIG lesson.

My son was in several ditches before he got married. One was where he drove up on a T-road and was going too fast. Went through the ditch and through some trees. Had his girlfriend with him AND had just had surgery on his elbow from a motorcycle accident. Knocked his elbow and had it bleeding (another trip to Wichita to see the dr). Walked to a neighbor's house to call Dad! It was quite an ordeal. So see, Janet, things don't look so bad!!!

BTW--the motorcycle accident was where he was trying to stand on the seat while going 60 mph down the road!! And fell off!!!! Trip to Wichita, emergency surgery, 4 days in the hospital!!! And he's still alive to tell about it!!

Oh Janet - Thank God this was minor. As Diana said "even the best of drivers can park it in a ditch". And also what Tink says, "deep breaths, you both will survive this". Oh goodness I don't know what to say except I'm so glad your son is alright.

Spring will be here before you know it. :love-hug3:

They do give us gray hair! As long as he's okay. Diana, you had your share too.

I remember an awful lot of very scary phone calls from Jessie. Once she called from Pennsylvania. She had gotten lost going upstate NY. Another time, some guy tried to run her off the road - she is a beautiful young woman! That was really scary to hear about.

There were more, but like Diana said, she's still alive.

I'd go for that Xanax right about now.

Oh Janet I feel for you, now my son is driving when ever he is out in the car I am a wreck. So far the weather has been okay here, but they just get so know it all attitude. Glad it was just his pride that was hurt. xx

I am so glad Ricky is OK. Tell him to be careful. He is such a sweet and caring young man we all want him to be safe.

Thanks everyone....just please keep him in your prayers. I let him drive to work last night, but he had to follow me in to town and then follow his dad back home. He needs the experience to drive on these bad roads, but I just don't want him doing it alone. He has been riding the bus and will be until the roads get better. He's not thrilled, but I told him he'd better get thrilled or I was moving him up to the front seat with the kindergarten kids.....LOLOL

You are doing a good job at protecting him, teaching him, and it shows. Someday he will look back on all this and do the same w/ his own children.

In a perfect world, everybody would have a "common sense" mom like you!

Come on you guys!!! I'm not perfect by any means...that's why I worry so much I'm sure. I can preach to him and darn near nag him crazy about something, but there are times he just doesn't get it and having a lead foot is one of them. No matter how often I talk to him about speed (and he really only goes 45-55) but that's on any road condition. They all think they have it under control.

I agree  and the hardest thing is to let them go, and experience their mistakes.

I think all mom's worry themselves crazy, it's what mom's do. I dont think they "hear us" or like you say "get it" when we say certain things.
I'm right there with you on that one girl. Hugs to you.
