View Full Version : I got my nose pierced?

Well, ladies.....I finally got the guts to get my nose pierced! That's right...apparently this last bit of my teenage rebellion didn't come to fruition until the age of 26 for me. Haha! I figure I can 'get away with it' since my career is on the artsy side (photography).

So far, everyone who has seen it has been ALL compliments...even my parents and the pastor of my church!

I've been thinking about it....talking about it....pondering it.....for years now. This weekend, a very dear friend visited me from out-of-town and said enough talk...time for action! So we went downtown and I didn't chicken out!

It was all-in-all a great experience. Very empowering. Something new and different.....and change is good. (Especially after the year I've had...not sure how many of you know this, but I am going through a divorce. It's hard, and I'm sad a lot...but I will get through this!)

Ok...so here's the montage of pictures in order:

1. Going in...

2. The official "before" photo:

3. Getting informed of the nose-pierfcing "process" by the piercer-guy, Cyrus:

4. a "dot" marked the spot (getting more nervous now)

1. OUCH is right....but only for like 15 seconds!

2. my eyes were watering from the few seconds of pain....this is me seeing it in the mirror for the first time!

3. And another "after" photo I took yesterday in the studio.

"The end" :D

OUCH!!!

When I see a pierced nose I always wonder what happens when they get a head cold and need to blow their nose. LOL

Tink, I always wonder the same thing.

Passion, good for you!! Sounds like you deserve a little rebellion, and what a well documented experience. Sounds like you have a very good friend there.

Did he numb it at all in any way? What holds it in the nose...does it have something like the ones on the ears? I would never do this myself, but if I was younger....I just find it all so fascinating.

ROFL - can imagine standing in public, and having to sneeze (nasty vizuals)

rofl don't want to be the one standing at their side! LOL

I have to say I think it's cute... but I'm a wimp and couldn't do that to my nose.

It made me hurt to even look at the pictures!!!! I've always wondered about blowing your nose with one of those in too. There surely has to be a back to the nose ring. Right? Don't think that I could do it either!

Thanks for the compliments, ladies! :D

To be honest, I always wondered about having a nose ring having to blow my nose, too!

So, to answer your questions, the nose ring is shaped kinda like an L, so it actually goes through but lays flat along my nostril. So really, it doesn't affect the inside of my nose much at all.

Janet - no numbing at all! Err...yeah I just had to cringe in pain for a few seconds. But I feel so proud of myself for being so hardcore. (haha) I ain't gonna lie...it hurrrt but seriously only for a few seconds and when it was over, it hasn't hurt since.

For the first few hours after I got it pierced it felt like I had a boogie in my nose...a very strange feeling....but even by that evening, or now, it's not noticeable at all until I see myself in the mirror. It didn't swell, either...I really thought it would, but it didn't.

And the aftercare is sooooo simple. All I have to do is spray saline solution on it every few hours.

I'm suprised that they didn't put on a topical numbing something or another. Owwww, that makes it sound even more painful. I'm glad to hear that if you have to blow your nose that stuff won't be hanging from your nose ring!!!!

Passion, thank you for showing the pic of the nose ring. That answered a lot of questions. How simple is that?? I wondered how you would put the back on it up your nose, so there is none to even worry about. I'm way too old for one of those. People would know for sure I'm middle age crazy, kinda like the response to Harrision Ford's earing a few years ago.

Thanks for all the pictures and answers to the questions. I just find it all so fascinating. I could never do it now...not at 52, but even if I did, I'd have to have something numb my nose. When you were talking about your eyes watering...I swear...mine started to water just thinking about it...LOL

Congratulations Val! You need to do things like that after a divorce! It is
empowering. It looks beautiful too.

I also wondered about the nose blowing thing, but thanks for the explanation. One less thing to ever ponder!

I got a tattoo after I retired. It was a good thing - self expression makes you feel strong.

Val your a very brave girl!! lol looks great , I give you credit I would never have the nerve to do it.. Esp. without numbing it first. WOOOOOOOOO lol

Very cute, it suits you.
Here is a video of when I gave myself my Monroe piercing last August.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v636/pope1982/?action=view&current=MonroeAug52007.flv

I got all my sterile tools off eBay, then just researched it. I washed my hands and the outside of my face with dial and the inside of my mouth, I gargled with antiseptic mouthwash... dried it with a paper towel, marked it, clamped it and pierced it with a sterile 14 gauge needle.

I also did the center of my lower lip myself.

LOL! Becky I was just telling kim about that video the other day. I am so glad you posted it!
OP, I to have my nose pierced, I was 34 I think? and I was also getting divorced! It became a symbol of my freedom!!!! I hope you like yours as much as I do mine. Word to the wise, keep it in, it will grow shut in like 2 hours!!!!

Oh my gosh I could NEVER pierce myself! I like piercings and I even like getting pierced, but I couldn't do it to myself!

pope1982
04-01-2008, 08:27 AM
It's not as hard as you think, they are so sharp and hollow. It doesn't take much pressure to get the needle through. And with the inside of the mouth, you can see all the veins and such you need to avoid.
Honestly, I don't remember any pain either.

Could be because my mind was preoccupied concentrating, I didn't have a chance to psyche myself out! So that is also an advantage.

I did NOT need to see that! LOL Yet I looked anyway. LOL I would love to get my nose pierced. I just don't think I could do it. I am too much of a chicken. You seemed so calm after getting out of the chair. I would have been a nervous wreck before and after! I got my ear pierced for a second time when I was 18. It hurt so bad that I never got the other side done! Just couldn't bring myself to do it. I do like the nose piercing with the little stud. It is a little on the wild side but yet still very girly. I think it looks good!

I think your nose piercing looks GREAT!!! I have always thought of doing it...but my husband would die. but, if we were to ever split up, the first thing I would do is get another tattoo and get some piercings LOL

I love it I had a piercing for my 30th too.

About the inverted nipple thing. I know a few girls who have had it done for that reason and had no problems. I dont know who pierced you but Id get another opinion.
You have great nipples anyway dear.

Here is a shocker.......
I got my nose pierced when I was about 36 and it is still pierced. I went with my daughter who thought I needed a new image it was kinda fun and I have a very small diamond in it. I really didn't think it hurt too much and the only time it bothers me is when I dry my face with a towel and forget it is there.
I had a friend who turned 45 and went and got hers done. lol
My husband asked me if I was having a midlife crisis and I said well if it is only a nose piercing be thankful but then I went and got a tatoo about 6 months later.
That is all, I think it was enough to sew some wild oats that I never got to sew when I was young! lol

Lol, my dad got his first tattoo when he was 50! I got one, then my brother got one, and then my dad got one! We made the midlife crisis joke too! Now we're trying to convince my mom but she's not into it after I told her how much blood I saw come out with my second tattoo!

It's kinda hard to explain. It's called "the emergence and journey of life". I posted a picture, but it's kinda blurry - sorry! Ignore the black stuff on the right of the picture. His tattoo is only the circle and symbols under the circle.

Okay...who has tattoos, where, and what are the? Fess up ladies!

Mine are a rose that once upon a time, grew out of my bikini bottom. It is now a wilted rose, due to the fact that my stomach is no longer flat:p:p:p My other one is a "tramp stamp" which goes from my very lower back, up the left side of my back into a couple of roses with leaves coming out of the curlicue stem.

I do love my tattoos.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Nope, no tattoos for me! I've thought about a little something on my ankle, but never did it.

Janet
01-04-2010, 04:12 AM
I have to admit I have thought about getting a small one either on my ankle or my back, but I don't know if it would look good when I'm all wrinkled....lol. So I just never have gotten one.

Lindsey

Janet, I am always asked "What's that going to look like when you're old and wrinkled?" and I just reply "I won't be showing it off!"

I have a butterfly with a design on my lower back that I got when I was 18. I had finished my first year of college, and survived my first year living on my own :D

A few years later I had learned some life lessons, got caught up with bad people, made decisions based on other people in my life, and learned I need to just look out for myself sometimes, so I wanted to get something that symbolized ME. My birthday is 06/06, my last name has 6 letters, and I grew up where I would spend nights outside staring at the northern lights dancing in the sky, so I drew a design with six big stars, six little stars, on a background of six wavy lines representing the northern lights. It goes from just behind my right hip, to the front of my thigh about halfway down :)

My dad got a tattoo of something that's pretty important to him too... Canadian hockey :D Here's what he has on his arm:
