It is so dang cold here and the wind sounds like it's going to knock the house down. It's in the teens, but is suppose to get down to 0 tonight. With the wind blowing so hard the windchill is wayyy too cold. The last time it was so cold with wind we had a two hour delay, so I guess we'll just have to wait until in the morning to see what will happen.

I do know on Friday is a teacher in-service day so we get out at noon. Yay!! I love half days on Fridays...get to start the weekend early!!:D

Oh, Janet, that sounds SOOOO cold! BRRRRRRRR!! You guys up north are sure getting a cold blast! We're in the thirties with lows in the twenties at night but we had freezing rain with hail and sleet. The ground looks like it has cottage cheese with a little bit of snow on it! And, I think that we're suppose to get more.

School was canceled for today so Jaci's home but she started a job last week and has to go to town later. I think that she's just going to stay in town with Dae Lynn tonight. (Jaci's working at the pharmacy with Dae Lynn. It will be a really good job for her while she's in high school.)

It's cold to me here at home but not as cold as you all in the North.

My bulbs have popped up so on a happy note Spring is just around the corner.

Janet,

You've got snow coming your way tonight. It was 30 below wind chill here on SUnday. Blizzard conditions. SO glad we couldn't go anywhere.
Stay safe.

Y'all take care. I'd be so paranoid about something happening and not being able to get to the hospital. Down here, we worry more about heat stroke in the summer than ever getting iced or snowed in.

I do remember one Sunday when I was pregnant with Karen and hubby wouldn't let me go to church because it was very icy he was afraid I'd fall and hurt the baby. I think we even had snow that year.

It was another warm day here. No jackets necessary.

I'm trying to find some weather history about our area. So far I've found:

The coldest temperature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperature) ever recorded in Houston was 5 °F (−15 °C) on January 23 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_23), 1940 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1940). Houston receives a high amount of rainfall annually, averaging about 54 inches a year. These rains tend to cause floods over portions of the city.

During the summer months, it is common for the temperature to reach over 90 °F (32 °C), with an average of 99 days per year above 90 °F (32 °C). However, the humidity results in a heat index (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_index) higher than the actual temperature. Summer mornings average over 90 percent relative humidity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relative_humidity) and approximately 60 percent in the afternoon.

We're actually a little farther south than Houston, but I'm getting close.

Here's a chart that I found for our city, well tried to post, but had to edit and delete the chart it turned out to be a bunch of junk when it posted. Sorry, I'll have to keep on trying.

Well, I don't know all the statisitcs here, all I know is it's hot and humid (ya feel like you are melting) in the summer and cold as ???? in the winter. I know, I'm complaining, I just want spring now.....wahhh....wahhh!!!!

We didn't get all the snow they predicted, but this morning on the way to school, it started raining ice. I had to stop I don't know how many times to clean the windshield off. This is why I complain about the weather. Ya never know what it's going to do for sure and it's so hard in Indiana to prepare.

Wow Marilyn, this surprised me...
The coldest temperature ever recorded in Houston was 5 °F I just don't think of your area ever getting that cold.

We have a lot of humidity too. It can sure make things miserable when it's really cold or hot!

My community holds a record for having one of the hottest days ever. It got up to 121*!!! I think that it was in the '30's but I'm not sure. My sister-in-law's Dad had a lot of memories from that time. He said that after working all day they would take the wheels off of the hay wagons and lower them into the wells so they wouldn't dry out and be ruined. I can't even imagine being out working in that kind of weather!!!!

We get quite a bit of rainfall compared to Western Kansas. I live in the green part of Kansas, in fact people think of all of Kansas as being flat and bare but the eastern part isn't like that at all. You'll find the flat and bare Kansas west of Wichita.

It turned cold yesterday, very windy and cold. Today it is 28 degrees and it has started snowing this afternoon and its turning to ice. The weather report is telling all to stay in if you don't have to go out.. I HATE THIS WEATHER.. It was nearly 70 degrees last week and looked like Spring was around the corner... Boy were we fooled...lol I hope everyone stays warm and safe...

Marilyn, Im jealous go out and enjoy the sunshine for me :p

That IS hot but I've never known it to get that hot. We usually have several days over 100* and once in a while it might get up to 110* but not often. I can't image how they made it when it was so hot because they didn't have airconditioning then. Whew!!!!!!

The lowest recorded temperature where I live was 9 deg. I think the year was 1988.

The highest recorded temperature was 111 in September about 2002.

These are extremely rare occurrances for it to get that cold or hot. In an average year, the range is probably around 28 for a low and 102 for a high. The highs are very humid. I'd rather have our hot than the hot in an area like Dallas. I've been there when it was in the high 90's and I don't know what it is, but the hot there is scorching and takes your breath away. The hot here is more tollerable for some reason. You need a head covering though and lots of water. It's unsafe to do hard labor in that heat. Even my husband will shut outdoor jobs down in the heat of the day if it' over 100.

Because

Marilyn, are you trying to make a point?????....ROFLMBO!!!!

It's been really crappy here the last few days. Snow, ice, slick roads, not being able to keep ice off the windshield of the bus. I think just about everyone I come in contact with says the same thing.....is spring ever going to get here? Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one losing patience with the weather.

I think most years by the time Febraury comes we are sick of it already.
That's why groundhog day is in Feb... people are really wanting winter to end and soon!

Marilyn - you are really funny on this thread! It is interesting learning about the weather around the country.

Like Gina said, it has been so crazy here the past week. Today was beautifully sunny, but cold (like high 30's).

Here's a little touch of Spring.

Yesterday was sunny, but cold. I was looking forward to taking the dogs in the car and just going somewhere for a walk with them today, but it is so gloomy out that I'm not even going out in it.

I need sunshine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's lightly snowing and 32 degrees here right now.
Over the next few days we're supposed to have more snow and temps around zero.
February can't get over too soon for me! I really am tired of it and want to be able to sit out in the yard and open my windows!

Janet

It was in the low 50's here today, but it rained all day. I did open the kitchen windows to let some fresh air in...it was so nice. The temp is suppose to drop again so who knows.

I'm so afraid if this keeps up, spring will be cancelled. Tell me it won't happen!

Gina

It is cold here to about 40 and suppose to rain heavily tonight into tomorrow. I hate this weather already!!! I want the Spring to get here quickly...

Come join me!!!! I posted these in another thread. It was 74 deg this afternoon and beautiful. A friend has been bugging me to go walk in the park with her so I called her this afternoon, and she has a bad cold!! :( I was so looking forward to going, but it's not safe to go alone.

These were in my front and back yards. When I put the dogs out, they did not want to come back in. They wanted to soak up the sunshine!!

Wish you could have all been here so we could have gone on that walk!!!!

Since Saturday we've had a wet mushy snow and ice, been in a flood watch (with heavy rain), had the sun come out and melt the snow and this evening it's snowing again!!! All in 3 days!!! It's been crazy here!!!
