I was supposed to have gotten a nice tax refund a week or 2 ago and it never arrived. So I finally checked into it, and was informed it was being held because my 2004 and 2005 take filings had been rejected! I knew there was a problem with the 2005 one and have tht cleared up... but I had no clue on the 2004 one!

SO I began hunting for the forms and I found everything from 1999 an up EXCEPT 2004. So I called the IRS and asked what I could do... so they're supposed to be sending me ONLY the amount of taxable income off the info they have... Like that's going to do any good!

SO tonight I was digging for tax info for Katies financial aid forms for school and I found the printout from Turbo tax for 2004 telling my id and password for the 2004 filing. I rushed to the computer, brought it up and now am able to finally file! Thank goodness Turbo Tax saves these things from year to year or I don't know how in the world I'd have been able to find out all the info I needed to get this done.

What a miracle that it finally showed up! I have no clue where the rest of it went... but that was the year we moved in here, so I'm guessing it got lost in the move.

What a nightmare! It turns out that we had claimed a deduction they didn't think we should have. We had legal custody of a boy who needed to finish high school and his Mom had kicked him out of their house (at 17) so he had quit school. His Mom was more than happy to give me custody but when it came time to do taxes she also claimed him on her taxes even though he hadn't been living with her! I suppose I could try to fight it, as I have proof we had custody of him, but I don't think it's even worth the fight at this point.

I know very little about tax filing, so not sure what all this is, but I do understand that you are feeling good that you found what you needed, and am so very happy for you!!!! I understand the frustration of hunting for something all too well!!

When we married, I told my husband I would pay bills, but I will not do income tax. He has an accountant do it and tells me where to sign. :p

I think taxes are so confusing, but I've done our now for two years with Turbo Tax. They make it really easy. I just hope I never screw up...LOL

That's great that you found it Tink! Boy did you save yourself some tedious work.

I also would forget about that deduction. The less you have to do with negative people in your life, the better off you are. That's why I decided not to appeal that traffic ticket, and I'm much happier with it off my mind.

That's why i always have my account do mine, there is so much we claim, we both claim work clothes, work tools, milege, etc. i don't want the responsibility of screwing it up.... it will fall back on my accountant.. i'll gladly pay the extra money for him...

I hope that you're able to get it straightened out soon, Tink. I'm glad that you were able to find the papers that you needed too. I just hate misplacing stuff. It drives me crazy!!

We have to have an accountant do our taxes. Farming is too complicated for us to try and figure everything out. I'm like Marilyn. I just sign where I'm told to sign.

I have an appointment on Monday. I have no idea how much I got this year. I got all kinds of papers for some reason. I do hope I don't owe! I'll pay it out if I do.

Amen!! My hubby has been self employed forever and we learned long ago that they know much better than we do what and how to do it. It costs to use an accountant, but they pay for themselves because they know what they are doing and reduce the amount of tax we pay.

People think since I'm and engineer and good at math I should be able to do accounting, no problem. Totally different kind of math. I do enough number crunching in sales. When I get home I hate to do anything that has to do with numbers. "Just sign here" is sooooo liberating.
