Last night about 11pm Katie called.
"Mommy, I'm SO SICK. I can't sleep, I cough till I puke, I hurt all over, am wrapped in 4 quilts and still shivering... What should I do?"
"Drink a lot of liquids, take whatever is safe for the baby, and try to get some sleep."
"But I don't know what to take!"
"Sudaphed, robitusin, tylenol... isn't that what you were told?"
"Yea, I guess so but I don't have any of those. What do you have?"
"Nothing safe for a pregnant lady! I haven't needed it."
"So what should I do?"
Take a good hot shower, try to get some sleep and if you're not better by morning call your dr."
LONG SIGH from the other end... "OK, if I have to go in will you take me?"
"Yes, goodnight and call me if you need a ride."

So the phone wakes me this morning. "You like waking me up!"
"I have to go in... I'm SO SICK!"
"I'll pick you up in a bit. Please be ready."
"OK I hope they give me something to make me sleep a few days."
"Cya in a bit."

SO I pick her up, sit and wait 90 minutes while she's in the clinic being told it's a virus and there's nothing they can do. She's told again that she can take the same things I told her... but she has no money and nothing on hand.

So we go to the pharmacy and I parallel park right in front of the door. She's TOO SICK to go in, so I had to go in for her. (Never mind that my water pipes have been frozen so I haven't showered in 2 days.) I walk up to a pharmacist and say "I need something for a cold and virus for a woman who is 17 weeks pregnant."

He looks at me like I've lost my mind...

"It's for my daughter thank GOD!" So he laughs, tells me the same thing the dr told her and I walk out with $20 worth of Tylenol, Robitusin and Sudaphed. I had to sign for the Sudaphed... was asked if I've bought any recently... "No, it knocks me flat on my butt! I don't take it!"

So he's probably thinking yep, she's a meth head... going home to cook it up... blaming it on pregnancy at her age! And did you notice the way she smelled? (can't shower for 2 days... you get like this!) Next time I see her she'lll be skinny and hyper!

SO I take the meds to Katie who is sleeping in the car... tell her to take 2 of each go to sleep and call me in the morning!

Then I drop her off, go to Kwik trip and use their toilet since if you have no water you can't flush and some things you just don't want floating there till dh gets it fixed.

I finally get back home and decide to try to flush the toilet with snow... there's plenty of it! So out I go with my 3 gallon pail and the snow's so hard it's like trying to scoop up concrete. I get a few cups by stomping on it, but it's a worthless cause. So defeated, I go back inside.

I notice dh has tried to call while I was out, so I call him...
"You need to run down to the post office and get me a couple of overnight envelopes so I can send my paper work in when I get home."
"I just got back from town!"
"What were you doing there? Well you have to go again."
"I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off making everyone question my sanity!"
"so act normal and just run to the post office!"
"I havent had a shower in 2 days... I don't want to be seen!"
"So take a quick shower and go..."
"I can't... the water pipes are frozen and the snow's too hard to scoop, so I had to take a dump at KwiK Trip and when I bought chili for lunch... 'cause I felt I had to buy something after stinking up their bathroom... I grabbed cheetos instead of corn chips so had cheetos in my chili for lunch!"
By which time he's being VERY quiet...

Finally he says "Ok... I'll be home in about 3 hrs... I'll try to go to the post office myself."

SO I can only imagine what dh is thinking of me right now... he's either rushing home to make sure I'm ok or driving in the opposite direction not wanting to get home at all.

Tink, I'd tell you to go and take a hot bath and relax for a while but since you don't have any water I guess that I won't recommend that!!!! It sounds like your husband will be home soon and then the problem will be his to take care of. I bet by evening he'll have you up and running. I had wondered if you had trouble with your pipes freezing with your temperatures getting so cold. When the wind blew our pipes used to freeze when we lived in our old house. As for getting the envelopes it won't hurt him to stop on his way home.

I'm sorry that you're having to live without water, but you do tell a great story!

I hope Katie feels better soon, and that your pipes get fixed asap.

Greg got home just before dark last night so wasn't able to accomplish much. He's been out there working on the water problem for 3 hrs and said he's no closer to figuring it out than when he started. He's starting to wonder if the pump went to heck.

I did get him to replace the belt on my vacuum last night, so at least that's now working. Please cross your fingers on the water... it's pretty awful not having any!

Katie's still sick, but that's how viruses work... it's gonna take time.

The clinic just called and said Katie has Strep so now needs to start antibiotics. Well at least she knows why she's sick and can start to do something about it now!

I'm so sorry that Katie's got strep. My daughter and granddaughter had it a few weeks ago. Jaci's got a really bad sore throat too and if it's not better tomorrow she's going to the doctor.
