View Full Version : I've got an interview!
We have yet to firm up a specific time, but I got an email tonight asking if I'd be interested and available on Wednesday to interview for one of the support staff positions at the court house! I was told the job would involve having an office in the dept of social services and working with a contracted group that provides home health care services for the county. Since I've done home health care, emergency medicine, and was a nurses aide in a nursing home for 3 yrs besides all my office experience, it's a job I think I could really relate to and enjoy. :)
So please cross your fingers and offer up a prayer that the interview goes well for me. I'm actually rather excited about it right now.
I saw an ad for a local bank looking for a teller supervisor (which is what my last job was) and offering almost $3.60 MORE per hr than the support position pays and it just made my blood run cold to even think of applying for it. LOL So obviously this is about something other than money. ;)

How exciting Tink!!! I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
You really are an inspiration to me to try new things. I've been thinking for a few days now to try and find something different than bus driving. The kids are starting to get to me...so maybe I'll start another thread.
Let us know as soon as you hear anything.

:crossfingers: Good luck, Tink! Your a very talented woman and I'm sure that your past experiences make you very qualified for the job!!!!!
Good luck Tink! I'm really happy for you. You're sure to get it, and it sounds like a
really interesting job where you can do a lot of good for other people.
Thanks Ladies! I can always count on your to be here for me with your friendship and support. What a blessing you all are!
Janet, I know I don't have the patience to handle that many kids in a day. I'm amazed at anyone who does. If you feel it's time for a change, I say go for it! Change can be refreshing and open up so many new ideas and people into our lives!
Hey Tink, Good luck to you!! I will keep you in my prayers and getting these fingers crossed, toes and hands if that helps...lol
It will be an interesting job working for the court house. I have worked for the court system back in the day before hubby and children. It was exciting...
GOOD LUCK!
I got another email agreeing that I really do need to fill out and bring in an application on hard copy, so printed one out and filled it in today. Since the job deals with a lot of confidential info they have several releases for background checks and screening that I had to sign. My record is squeaky clean thank God so at least I'm not worried about that part.

Has a time been set for the interview yet?
Thanks for asking Janet.
No time set yet. I hope she will tell me on Monday when I drop off the hard copy of the application. I don't think she works weekends... so must have been putting in some overtime when she emailed me.
I just really hope I get the chance to try the job. :)

One of my referrences called me this afternoon to tell me she'd just gotten a call from the local court house here asking questions about me. She was asked to describe me with 3 words, so she said "personable, generous and hardworking"; was asked if I was an "administrative position" type of person (whatever that means) and what it had been like to work with/under me for several years. Lucky for me the lady they called is very quick on her feet and said she told them I'm very professional, caring and determined to find solutions for even the toughest of problems. She said she herself calls me even now to get ideas to help her in HER job although we no longer have any type of formal business relationship.
Considering she didn't even know I had applied for a job, she did well. LOL
I hope the others are as kind! LOL

It sounds to me like she gave you an EXCELLENT reccomendation!!!! I'm sure that the others will do just as well.
Thanks Diana, I just heard from another one of my references who had also gotten a call today. She was at work so had been left a message... but she's down with the flu tonight so said she's staying home tomorrow and will call them back in the morning. I'm sorry she's sick, but it's good timing for me!
The third one hadn't been called yet, so hopefully they just ran out of time and will call her tomorrow. Because I worked so long online, my references are far away... in Maryland, Texas and Virginia. I hope they don't think that's a negative. They wanted to know what job positions each of them hold, so I tried to come up with people who are in administration themselves.

What a wonderful recommendation Tink and I'm sure the next one will be just as good. I will keep hoping you get the position and that's it's everything you've wanted.
That's so nice to get outstanding recommendations!
I'd hire you in a New York minute!
Thanks Ladies!
Judy, I wish you were the one hiring for this job! LOL
They have called 2 of my 3 references... and so far I haven't been called to set a time for an interview. So either it's taking her longer than expected to get ready for it, or someone else came along that knocked her socks off.
She did say she "hoped" to interview on Wednesday... so I'm kinda on pins and needles right now.

Just checking to see how the interview and all went.
DianaB

I'm waiting too, Tink!!!
I'm BAAAACKKK lol
I survived the interview. WHEW
I was interviewed by 2 women... one, the head of social services, and the other the head of Gemini Employee Leasing. I had SO stressed about what to wear... turned out my outfit was almost identical in style to the one woman... and very close in color to the other... so luckily I think I chose well there. LOL
They were very friendly, nice to talk with and seemed to accept my answers to their questions well. One major part of the job is to handle the vouchers for the volunteer drivers and calculate payment for them, while preparing and filing confidential personal records. It's less about dealing with individuals and more about dealing with their private information than I had expected. They said they were pleased that I have so much experience in dealing with confidential information in my previous jobs.
There'd be a lot of typing, filing, scanning and recording which shouldn't be too difficult. The only thing they mentioned that would be new to me is typing from a dictation machine. I would hope that my many years in online boards and chat would help me pick that up.
The job pays $.57 more an hr than I was initially told, and runs 28 hrs a week for the next 2 months; then 20 hrs a week thereafter. Which sounds good to me! It's 9-2:30 Tues - Fri so 3 day weekends are the norm.
One of the questions was "What was a situation at work that forced you to make a difficult decision and how did you handle it?" I told them about when I worked on an ambulance service and the manager of the service was coming in to work drunk. (Figured that was about as tough as it gets) I told how I'd talked with him about it, went to his supervisor and when nothing was still done about it, had called all the members of the county EMS board. The next morning they congregated in his supervisors office and it was taken care of. They had to agree that was the only right solution since this man also went out on emergency calls... and it was left to the EMT working with him to decide whether you put the drunk in back with the patient or have him drive the ambulance! When I said that, they both shuddered. LOL
They are hoping to decide and notify me tomorrow. So my fingers are crossed!

WOW, it sounds like you knocked their socks off, but then again I knew you would. You impress me everyday. Today you should find out if you get the position, so I'll be checking in throughout the day. My fingers are crossed for ya!
No phone call today... and it's 5 pm here so I don't expect it now.
So either I didn't get the job and will most likely get a form letter in the mail, or they weren't able to decide today like they hoped to.
SO I sat here all day waiting for the darn phone to ring for nothing. :(
Ho Hum...

maybe they have other candidates to interview. or maybe taking time to make a decision. maybe the interviewer had meetings all day friday. calling references is a good sign. and, they said "hoping" to make a decision, so hope is not lost!
hoping for the best news!
sounds like a cool job. i'm in home health.
STILL no word on this job!
I thought for sure I'd get a form letter today saying thanks but no thanks.

03-03-2008, 04:18 PM
I'm sorry, Tink! It's not very professional of business who say that they'll contact you afterwards and then don't do it. My daughter had that happen several times when she was looking for a job. There's always the possibility that they still haven't decided.
Marilyn
03-03-2008, 05:16 PM
Tink, it's probably time to make a call. Either they are taking more time than expected and will tell you so, or they may have hired someone else. Enough time has passed that your call will not be out of place or unexpected. It will show that you are responsible and interested.
That's my opinion. Any others out there willing to express yours?

I hope you get a call soon! But, I would call...interviewers like to know that you care enough to follow up, shows that you are interested. But either way, I hope you hear back. It sucks not knowing.
I had an interview today too. But they all hate me here as I stepped on a few toes a while back. I did really well, but we'll see if I get the job. Even if I do, I'll still be looking elsewhere, but its more money and good interview practice.
Janet
03-05-2008, 04:21 PM
Definitely call Tink. I have always called them back after 3 days if they haven't contacted me to show that I do follow up and that I'm interested in the position. Good Luck!!
Marilyn
03-05-2008, 08:25 PM
Tink, any news???? We're concerned about you.
I sent them a thank you note after the interview... and in it expressed my continued interest in the position. I really expected at least a form letter saying "thanks but no thanks" by this time. It's a week tomorrow since I interviewed!
I find it odd that a county interview would end so UNprofessionally. It's really left a sour taste in my mouth for any future openings they might have.
I really just don't even want to call them. Guess I have a bad attitude but it's the ONLY one I have. lol

Oh, Tink, so sorry you never heard from them. Hope something comes along soon. I'm trying to get a chance to call about my old e-mail with the VA information in it. We had cable internet here at home & changed to DSL so I lost my cable e-mail. People had told me I could still access it through the web, but people were wrong!! Hubby has cable internet at his office so I was hoping to be able to move my e-mail account to his service. You are allowed about 5 e-mail addresses per account. But during the day when they are open, we have been sooo busy at work. I worked until 8:30 last night. I'm running to other towns, out to customer's plants, working up quotes, I'm getting calls from the CEO about accounts and products we are working on. One of our manufacturers did us wrong, so we are having a company in Asia manufacture a competing product to theirs and put our label on it. The owner of the Asian company is firing their current rep and going with us. It's been totally wild. I'm getting sooo tired. I'm about to tell them we need more help. Just not sure this is a spurt and we should wait an see or if now is the right time. Sure don't want to have to lay someone off in a few months. Our new warehouse guy is a deadbeat with attitude, so have to find a replacement and let him go. Whew, crazy.
Tink, wish you could help here!!!!!! You'd love working with me and Teresa, we're the ladies at our branch, and a new one, Debbie is moving in, just her desk though, she will be working out of our location, but for our Houston branch. Personal needs are bringing her to our area.

Tink, I know its been a few days. But I would still call. Let me tell you about how my friend got her job. She intervieiwed 3 times! LOL! So she finally said on the third interview,
"Look, I'm the right person for the job. I want the job, and this is my last suit!! So, I am not coming in for another interview! You need to hire me!"
she didnt know the problem was, the guy was going to be her boss, and she intimidates him a little bit! LMAO
turns out he had 2 equally qualified candidates, and he chose the "other" woman!
So when he called my friend, she said, "your making a mistake, but thank you for letting me know."
2 weeks later he had to call her and offer her the job because the woman he chose had a family crisis and couldnt stay! So my friend REALLY rubbed it in. They have been working together like 4 years now, and they bicker and carry on like siblings, she is definately the older sister!
Getting a new job is extremely stressful. I have noticed that if I get a new job, almost always the first week, I'll end up with the flu, or a bad cold. Its really hard to learn a new job ill and I never felt like I had enough positive built up to offset a negative like a few days off. Anyway my point is, I have seen more than a few people lose their job within weeks of being hired. Getting hired is the first step....keeping the job is the real test. So if I were you, I would still call if it was something I really wanted and if it is filled, still be polite. You never know what could happen.
Hi Tink,
Just trying to catch up on what I missed, and I have to say that they truly suck!
They don't know what they're missing out on! I will never, ever use their nursing home, whatever else they do, services, even if I do happen to move to your town!
I finally got my "thanks but no thanks" letter.
LOL judy you're a doll.
