View Full Version : College violence...at MY school?!

It's scary when the possibility of something like that seems real and hits this close to home. This morning our entire campus was put on "Alert". Text messages were sent to students advising them to be on the lookout for and report any "suspicious activity".
Luckily, the person in question was taken into custody not long after the alerts were sent out. We are being told that the text message, which "clearly stated the possibility of an act of violence against a person or persons unspecified", was actually sent to the university by mistake. Supposedly, it was meant to go to a specific person with which this guy had a domestic dispute. How do you "accidentally" send a threatening text message to the advisement office of your university? It just seems weird to me.
Anyway, I'm thankful that they arrested him before someone was hurt. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Angie,
That is so scary, and it seems to be happening so much lately, very sad times.
I don't know what's going on in this world anymore.
Glad you're safe and sound.

How scary! I'm so that you're safe and sound.

I'm glad it was a false alarm. Last fall at the university here that I used to attend, there was a lockdown and apparently there was someone with a gun. It kind of went away without anyone really knowing what happened. The next week Kyle and I were at a movie and one of his friends happened to come in, carrying his bike seat and sat in front of us and he was talking to Kyle and he was like "You know that thing at the university? Yeah that was me!" He rides his bike everywhere, and takes the seat off and carries it in his backpack until his classes are over. Someone saw the bar sticking out of the backpack and thought it was a gun and called security and caused a lockdown!

It's kind of ironic that you say that Janet. About half of my Practice class was ready to leave this morning and we had a midterm exam! They were very freaked out by the whole thing. They were deciding what to do when we got text messages saying the suspect was in custody. It was a bit amusing when they started yelling the news to each other across the hall...
Unfortunately Lindsey, I don't think this was exactly a false alarm. I truly believe that if he hadn't been caught, someone would have been hurt. He threatened suicide and said he wouldn't go alone. Thank goodness the police and the university took his threat seriously.
It's hard to feel safe on campus these days. Brendon's best friend was kidnapped from a dorm parking lot several years ago and murdered a few hours later. Then there was an alleged assault last semester. The girl claimed a guy in a clown mask attacked her with a knife outside the dorm, but it turned out that she made the whole thing up. That was a big deal at first and really scared a lot of people. Then the crazy Christian radical guy came and campus was incredibly close to rioting, and now this. Hopefully we won't have anything else serious happen. We've definitely had our share of "events."

I'll be relieved when you're finally done with school, Angie. There's just too much copy cat attacks going on. The news doesn't help anything.
