OH I have to share this...

My son works nights and gets a 10 minute break during which he usually walks to a nearby grocery store for a soda and to get some fresh air. Usually he's back in 10 minutes to return to work.

Last night he got in line behind a man and a woman at check out. The man checked out quickly and left... the woman handed the clerk a newspaper ad and her reciept from earlier and started in on him about how the store had robbed her of $.50. She went on for about 5 minutes with the clerk trying to explain to her and her of course not listening but getting madder the whole time. Finally Joel (my son) had heard enough.

"Mam" he said, "I am going to be late for work... I only have a 10 minute break and I've stood here listening to you for half of it."
She turned angrily toward Joel and said "You have no right to speak to me that way."

"I'm going to be late getting back to work and you are making this whole line of people waste their time over fifty measly cents. I'm going to loose out on 5 times that because you can't pull your head out of your ass long enough to listen to reason and admit you're wrong."

The clerk this whole time is standing there totally expressionless and silent. The lady behind Joel is clinging to her cart and roaring with laughter.

The irate woman grabs her papers, says "F_U ALL" and stomps out of the store.

Joel got his pop and left, and no one said a word to him.

What would you have done?

I probably would have just stood there and waited, and wished I had the nerve to tell her what Joel did. If I was behind Joel I'd of yelled 'Have a nice day' at her after she swore at everyone, then I would've applauded Joel. :bravo:

I'm not saying tying up the entire line for that isn't ridiculous, because it is. She should have gone to the courtesy desk...not the cashier.

But I would have a problem if a young man....better yet, any man said this to me!

:sidesplit: :sidesplit: :sidesplit: I don't know what I would have said but I have to give a high 5 to your son. He was right she should have taken her complaint to courtesy desk and not hold up the line.

On second thought I am born and raised in NY I probably would have said a nasty thing or two to that lady. lol

This is just Joel.
I probably wouldn't have dared say anything, but would have thought plenty... He figures if you're stepping on his toes he's going to tell it like he sees it.

I'm just glad I wasn't there to witness it... I'd have had to pretend I didn't know him while I was giggling behind the other lady.

I probably would have just handed her the fifty cents and told her that her problem was solved and it was time to go. I think that Joel was right to have said something but his language should have been toned down a little bit. I know that our small grocery store has a customer service desk and that's where she should have been, not holding up a line.

I'm not sure what I would have done... I can be sweet as pie, but I also have a temper in my old age. if the woman was being mean to the clerk, I may have let her have it. I may have thrown .50 cents at her! But then again i may have just smiled at the clerck to let him know I wasn't upset with him for the wait! I'm a yo yo!!!

Yahoo Joel!

Of course, I would have left out the "head up your ass" part since I'm not a young man, but I have been known to speak my mind, often.

After all, I called a judge an idiot.

One of these days, I'll post about what I said to the traffic cop who was giving me a ticket a couple of weeks ago.

People have to be taught that they're not the only ones who count!
