Well last night was Relay for Life throughout Saskatchewan. I took the afternoon off work and had an hour nap before getting packed up and going to the park to set up our site. It was INSANELY windy. We had a "cancer research lab" building that we built but the walls were made of thin plastic and we were so worried it would rip. So my roommate said "I would rather it rain than be this windy!" about 20 minutes later, after a 0% chance of rain, it started POURING. It only lasted maybe 15 minutes but we were all soaked, but at least the wind died down. Our team name was "Mission Possible" and we were all dressed in black like spies. In our building we had a doll spy (okay, it was a blow-up doll, and it was hilarious! We got a lot of laughs out of "Agnes".... at least she was covered in black clothes and a mask!) hanging from the ceiling of our research lab.
It was a pretty cold night, and really really damp. It got to freezing temperatures this morning. Walking helped, and my friend Candice and I threw a football around until the sun started coming up. Kyle and his friend did a half hour of running around the track and got so warm they were down to t-shirts! Only 2 people on the team actually slept, and they fell asleep in their chairs all cuddled up in sleeping bags.
Our team of 11 raised over $2,300, and throughout our city there was $32,000 raised. Now this is amazing.. there were 8 events going on throughout the province last night, and Saskatchewan just hit a population of 1 million not too long ago. Over $1.5 million was raised throughout the province from the 8 events combined.
I took a couple of pictures of our site last night, so I'll post them when I get the pictures on my computer!
