Yes it does girl, i moved 4 years ago come October 1, i bought my house, and it was a night mare, the carpet people were late, we weren't done painting yet, and it was in the middle of a snow storm, i was sliding all over the place with furniture in back of my work truck.. it was a night mare... and my landloard was bugging me for the keys back cause i didn't pay for a couple days rent, well i didn't have all my stuff out yet cause of the snow i didn't want to wreck my truck! the nerve of some people...
Packing sucks!
Indeed it does....lol I know that you have been throwing out stuff over the year.. Just think you will be in your beautiful new home in no time... :)

Throw it out....throw it all out! We moved last year after 16 years inthe same house....I am still boggled by the sheer amount of crap we had acumulated. I threw away hundreds of bags of stuff! I've become very minimalist! This house we are only going to be in for 3 or 4 years so I know I'll have to do it all over again. Packing is one of the worst things to have to do! You have my sympathy.

Packing for a move is the worst thing in the world. I hate it!! Everytime I move I accumulate more stuff. I have been here now, in this home, for 9 years, look around knowing I plan on moving in 8 more years when I retire, back to my second home state of Arizona. When I moved back here to Michigan 24 years ago, I didn't have all that much. Now!!! A lot more!! My problem is I have things around me that I love, enjoy.. yes material items, but still loved by me. I don't want to get rid of anything! When I move again it will be a nightmare.
I feel for you Judy. Not an easy task.
On a serious note , Judy when I moved from Bklyn I had to clean out 40 yrs of memories of my parents. Talk about stuff whew.. I gave to the salvation army and several local churches and threw out bags and bags of old stuff. I still have a lot of stuff that I couldn't part with..It is now sitting in my garage.. next move out it goes lol

I have a hard time letting some things go. Some one told me once, that if I'm never going to use it again..then take a few pictures of it and let it go. That way it won't take up near as much space. Usually it's not the item itself...just the memory it carries.

I'm going to have to think about this picture idea. I have some things that will never be used, but it's hard to part with them. Some of it is just junk, but it has memories. We so need to clean things out. The attics and a couple of closets are really bad.

What i do is once a year i pack up all the junk in the house and donate it to the local church. It makes me feel good, another plus its a tax right off !!!

It worse than sucks for me! 22 years in a house, after 4 kids have been out and in and out and in and out!
I've been trying to get my hubby to "play like we're moving" and take EVERYTHING out of the house (maybe into one of those portable containers), do some thorough cleaning and as needed painting, and sort through things as they are moved back into the house. I think we'd both be surprised at the stuff we'd NOT move back in.
My husband is a box saver! We have the box to an answering machine that quit working 10 years ago. Threw the machine away, kept the box! There are 3 computer boxes in the attic. We only have 1 computer!
I did what any sane person would do. I left it all yesterday and went out to get my hair done, and a manicure.
When I came home, I decided to just leave it. I may have it packed for me - I can get it done for a fairly decent price from one moving company. I really don't have that much to pack. I already did the books, videos, china, called the Salvation Army to come pick up stuff, and have a pile to give to my ex-husband.
I already cleaned out 15 years of stuff a couple of months ago. I must have gotten rid of 30 huge hefty bags of stuff, including those old boxes for appliances, etc. I no longer have.
I don't know why I can't pack. I can sit at the computer for hours, watch TV for hours, but sitting there and wrapping my knicknaks (sp?) in bubble wrap and arranging them in a box was not something I can do. Who knew I was packing disabled.
Anyway, thanks for your support! I'm going up to my daughter's on Thurs. and when I get back, I'll see how I feel about doing it myself. I may renew my energy.
I had the craziest (really nice) woman here yesterday. She organizes people's homes, offices, packing, etc., etc. She scoped out my stuff and told me that she figures 3 days at 4 hrs./day, for a total of about $550! If it takes more than 3 hours for 2 men to do it, I would be surprised. She clearly has her own agenda and is more into organizing than just wrap it and pack it. She was fun though.
I've also gotten moving estimates ranging from $800 to $3000. I'm not using either one!

We lived at our last house for 19 years and we had lots of stuff!!! I know that with this house we're never moving again unless it's into something for retirement and I really don't think that we'd move even then. I've got a huge basement for storing all kinds of things and I NEED to have a garage sale or donate some stuff to the thrift store. You certainly have my sympathy on packing, Judy! Too bad that a bunch of us couldn't come over and help ya'. We could get 'er done pretty quickly!!!

Oh I wish I didn't have clutter!
Me too, but some of it I really like!!! The other I just haven't found time for a garage sale.
I was definitely going to organize everything for the packers on Thursday. Here I sit, at 3:22 PM and haven't done a thing!
I think it's time to start. Or not.

You poor thing...your get up and go has got up and left. That's okay...you'll get it done....or not.....LOLOL
Judy its the weather.. It is not to hot but still warm.. I am lazy and tired myself. I did work together but I can't get moving either. I remember when I moved I threw out so much. But funny I accumulated a garage full of other stuff. In the fall I am to going to do a clean out..
I did it! I signed off 4WT at 3:23 yesterday, worked till 8 PM, woke up this morning and finished up as much as I'm going to do in about an hour.
I can't wait until they leave tomorrow and everything is nicely packed and ready to go.
Then I have about a month, so I can go to the beach! I have to do address changes and so on, but nothing too demanding.
I feel great and so productive!
Once I actually move, the work starts again. I'm going to really relax until then.

What do you mean "I have a month"? When your packed stuff leaves aren't you leaving with it or are you going to sit in an empty apartment? I'm lost!
Janet

Me too, I'm so confused!!! Were you just in a hurry to get things packed and now you'll sit there with boxes everywhere for a month?

Yup.
Actually, they're not everywhere. They're nicely labeled and stacked up out of the way in each room. (My place is huge).
Now, I can relax and enjoy the last few weeks, going to the beach, seeing my friends, and then I'll pack up whatever I kept out to use, and it's on to another phase of my life.
Diana - I absolutely love you! They didn't take my stuff away. They just wrapped and packed. I'm not sitting in an empty apartment, but you gave me a good laugh!
They packed well. I did find something suspiciously black electronics plastic after they packed up my cd player. We'll see! I was really laughing after they left though. There were 3 of them and I tried to keep an eye on all of them, but I got a phone call, so the kitchen packer guy packed up my sugar bowl, full of sugar, and my linen closet packer guy packed up my hamper filled with dirty clothes and my supply of toilet paper!
