Are any of you taking meds on a daily basis? I do and I've grown so tired of taking them. It's really not that bad, but I take blood pressure and a vitamin of a morning and then in the evening I take a thyroid and hormone. I know it's not near as bad as some have to take, but I'm hoping once I get some weight off I will be able to drop a couple of them. :)

If you get some weight off, you will probably be able to drop a couple of those meds! Just another incentive to keep up the good work!

I take meds everyday. I take my birth control pill, ADD meds, Nexium for my acid reflux, prescription nosespray for my allergies, and steroid inhaler for my asthma. I also take Allegra when my allergies are really acting up. At such a young age, I should not have to take so many meds on a daily basis! But I cannot get rid of a single one of them. I need them all. I've looked into getting on a monthly or weekly birth control method, but I've been taking the pill for so long (8 years), that would feel like something was "missing" if I didn't take that pill everyday. Plus it gives me a peace of mind knowing I took it.

That's a good enough reason to keep up your good work, losing weight Janet  You probably will be able to drop some of those meds :)

I'm fortunate not to have any daily meds that i need for anything, i really do count my Blessings!!!!

I'm thinking I will probably be able to drop the blood pressure meds, if I can get the weight off, I don't know about the thyroid. That one may be for a lifetime. I'll probably have to take the hormone (have since the hysterectomy), if I don't want the hot flashes and all, and I know it's best if I do keep taking a multiple vitamim. Guess I'll just have to wait and see, huh??

If you want to try to drop the blood pressure med, start eating more garlic and walnuts. I'm not kidding, this works. One of my brother-in-laws lived in Austria for a while. They eat lots of garlic. His blood pressure actually got too low.

Cinnamon lowers cholesterol if you want to add more cinnamon to your diet it won't hurt and may well help. I got mine down from 268 to 170 by watching my diet and including cinnamon. I'll sprinkle it on chili, a sandwich, whatever I am eating. Carry it in my purse.

By the way, I have been taking no meds on a daily basis until yesterday. Now I'm taking Evista and am supposed to do so for the next 5 years. It's been found to reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Thank you for the tips. I can probably do the garlic and walnuts, but I'm not too sure about the cinnamon, but hey, I'll try it because my cholestral is on the high side. Does the Dr. prescribe Evista? Sounds like something everyone should take if breast cancer is in their family history. :)

Janet, before you drop any meds, talk to your dr. I tried dropping a couple of my meds last year and got in BAD shape. My blood pressure and cholesterol both went sky high.

Oh, just wanted to make sure you understand, I was not suggesting that anyone drop their meds without consulting with their doc. Natural things sometimes do work and may result in you not needing the meds, but he doc should definitely be the one to make that decision.

Evista is a prescribed medication. Tamoxifin was the drug of choice for people considered high risk for breast cancer. Evista was recently discovered to have the same beneficial effects as Tamoxifin with a lower risk of blood clots. Evista was originally developed for people with osteoporosis, it was later determined that it significantly reduces the risk of breast cancer. Tamoxifin was developed to prevent breast cancer and it was discovered that it had the side benefit of reducing bone loss. Tamoxafin has about the same risk of blood clots as hormone replacement therapy. One of the side effects of both drugs is hot flashes. I'm waiting to see if that happens.

Gotta get to work. Have a nice day everyone!!!! :)

I will definitely check with my Dr. first. I would never stop medication without first consulting him. I'm not done raising my son yet, so I don't want to take any chances. :)
