My mom is at my New Hampshire house with 2 of her sisters this week - she just called me to tell me about today's adventure.

One of my aunts was in the kitchen and started screaming - my mom and other aunt went in to see what the problem was. She pointed to the shelves and they all saw a big black mouse - they all started screaming. It didn't move at first, so my mom poked it with the broom to see if it was alive (the entire time they were all screaming). Someone saw the mouse move - one aunt screamed and locked herself in the bathroom, the other screamed and ran out on the deck, and my mom went screaming to our neighbor Tom's house to have him kill the mouse.
The 3 sisters waited on the porch while brave Tom went in to face the killer mouse. My mom said that the 3 of them agreed that as soon as Tom got the mouse, they were packing up and leaving. My mom said all of a sudden and yelled and came out with a napkin wrapped around his finger - he said that it had bit him really badly when he tried to pick it up. All 3 of them started screaming again - until they realized that Tom was laughing. He then pulled out the "killer mouse" and showed it to them - it was the cat's toy!

She is NEVER going to live this one down!

That sounds like something I would do. When Traci was a baby I saw a mouse in our apartment. I ran and took her out of the crib where she was sleeping and stood on the bed with her (screaming because I had woken her up) while my ex killed the mouse.

Twice now my cat has woken me up by playing with a mouse in my bed!!!
First time it ran over my back with cat chasing after it! Second time I felt cat pouncing on bed, knew immediately what was happening and got out of bed quick!!

Now I put poison in garage. Haven't had a mouse in house since. Yes I know that is dangerous with my cats, as in if a mouse ate the poison, then came in and cat got it and ate it.. (yes they do the deplorable deed even with food out all the time! They love a mouse treat.. yuck) but I hate mice in the house.

Gotta love country living.

We use to get mice all the time out here in the country. Now...the first of every month (when it starts getting cold) we put D-con all around under the house. We haven't had any for quite a while.

There is an extremely good mouse poison called "Boot Hill". We get it from our local co-op but I'm sure if you have a good farm store nearby they will probably have it too. It's much better than D-Con. It comes in little small packets in a bucket with a lid for storage. I just dump a packet behind a cabinet in the garage to keep the mice out of there. They only have to eat one small pellet.
