Here's the new addition to our family. This Past Monday my husband and I went and picked up a pair of Sugar Gliders. Jack and Jill. The pics. are of Staphen (hubby) and Jack. I don't have any pics. of Jill because she was being grumpy and didn't like us waking her up so we put her back to bed. Also theres a pic. of the cage that hubby and I built them. We finally finished it last night. It's made out of Red Oak b/c it's the same as the trim in our house.... ENJOY

Please pardon my stupidity, but what are those? I have never seen those little animals before. Are they like ferrets?

I haven't seen them before....do they bite????:)

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you tell a little about them..such as biting, pottying, trainable????

There called Sugar Gliders. ( you can google the name and get alot of info) Alot of people think that they are flying squirrels b/c the look really similar but there actually from the opossum family. You find them in Australia and a couple other places. I've been wanting one for a couple years now. Theres alot of breeders of them around the US. They get about 5 to 7 inches in length in body and their tail is about the same size as their body. Their nocturnal but mine havn't woke me up any through the night. Hubby woke them up pretty early this morning and when he left they barked a little but it only last a couple min. (yes I said bark, it sounds like a puppy when they first learn how to bark...it's really cute) They can bite but since their so small it's kinda like a hampster bite. We got these on monday and neither one has bit us (knocking on wood..LOL) yet. They just like to crawl all over you. It takes a little bit of time to get them to bond with you, were still working on that but their doing good. Something that I think is neat is that they carry their babies in a pouch like a kangaroo...

Here's a pic. of when they glide..... and a close up

There not potty trainable, we just let them wake up and do their business b4 we get them out..... They are trainable, you can carry them around with you and once they bond with you then there suppose to stay stuck to you. They also have harnesses for them until they get copletly bonded to you so they don't jump away.

I'm not sure what to think of them. I'm not real thrilled with mice or bats and that's what they remind me of. Don't know if I could bond with something that kind of gives me the willys. :)

I agree, they do kind of remind me of bats because of their webbed bodies. They also look sort of like raccoons.

OMG!!!my hubby saw me reading this post and guess what he wants me to buy him for x-mas!!! they are absolutely adorable but i would be worried that my cats might try to get them for a snack.... i will google and see if i can learn more about them. they sure are cute...do they let you snuggle on them or do they just do their own thing?

That's awsome that hubby wants one. I'm not sure about the whole cat thing though. I would be a little worried unless you have a room to keep the cage in where you can keep the door shut at all times unless your in there. Then I wouldn't see it as being a problem. From what I've read everyone acts like they will cuddle with you but mine havn't did that yet. It's taking a while for them to bond b/c they sleep all day. We try and wake them up early but their not happy and will climb right back into their pouch and go to sleep. They usually don't wake up till about 10:00 p.m. and then we play with them as long as we can b4 going to sleep. Make sure you read up on them a good bit b4 getting one. I love min and I've only hdd them a week.

I showed it to my husband and all he said was "NO". Ha Ha He thought I was wanting one. I have enough to take care of, but if I wanted one, I'd get it! :)

Sugar gliders are neat. My aunt used to breed them. I don't think I would be a very good Sugar Glider Owner, though. I don't know why. Jack and Jill are precious names and Jack just looks like a curious little animal! :D CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS on your new additions!

A while back when I was first looking around here is how I found out about Sugar Gliders, and I had remembered that the kids I was taking care of at the time were talking about them a few days before that.
I posted on YT to find out about htem, and I must've looked at pictures of them for at least 2 hours, and my boyfriend and I were both sending eachother the really cute pictures (like of them holding half a grape but it takes up all of their hands ha ha ha)

I really want them! but I heard they're sensitive to sounds and such, they are SO cute, I already picked out the names we'd want for them (Pumpkin and Peppermint)

Pumpkin and Peppermint are adorable names! I love names like that for pets. Let us know if you get them. I wanted a chipmunk as a pet but never actually got to get one. I think I might look into it when I get my own place.

Ohhh! We has one of those b/f my daughter was born. Her name was Fuzzy! She was so sweet. I had to rehome her when I found out I was pregnant, b/c her cage made me ill:o She didn't like my hubby, so I had no choice. She has a mate now, and is doing great! They are interesting little creatures!
