Last year, I put some food packages together for my four grown kids and am thinking that I'll do it again this. There was pre-cooked brisket, frozen chicken and fish, aged steaks, frozen crawfish tails, homemade salsa, and even veggies. It was fun, appreciated, and definitely used. One even got a couple of cheap, frozen lobster tails!
Do you do anything like that?

I've never thought about doing anything like that for my kids. but I do that for my dad because he lives alone and is pretty much a hermit. Plus he lives 2-21/2 hours from me. As for the kids I just bake alot of cookies and they seem to enjoy that.

My uncle gives everyone a steak. It's probably one of my favorite presents.

That's a great idea Sandy. I will have to remember that when Ricky is older and out on his own. I know I would like it, I wonder if my Mom would???? She usually has a list, can you believe it....worse than a kid.

No, I've never done that, but I think it is a good idea!!!

That does sound like a good idea, but not sure where we would put all the stuff to keep it cold until they go home. I've notice the grocery is selling dry ice. Would this work in an ice chest for a day or so???

Marilyn, I'm not sure about dry ice and haven't really used it, but I'd think it would work OK. Then, you have to worry if they have freezer space once they get it home. Three of mine have stand-alone freezers and always have room. The single daughter only has her frig/freezer, so we assigned one shelf in one of our freezers to her and she'd take stuff each time she came by.

That's a really good idea. I'll have to think about that for my kids. It would sure be different. I bet that your children really appreciate it.

They seemed to like it. My Hubby loves to cook, so he made a few individual things that were favorites to each kid. I make a fast and easy enchilada that they all seem to like and they can be frozen.

I really like this idea more and more. So much better than a trinket gift and much more affordable. Plus I like that there is more thought and time put into it.

Remember when work places gave out turkeys and hams for holidays? I miss those days!

Oh yes...I remember. It's been so long since that has happened for us, I had forgotten all about it. No ham/turkey's or bonuses anymore.
That is a great gift idea. My aunt gave me a carton of canned goods when I got my first apartment. I really appreciated that.
My first MIL used to make prepackaged meals for me and Jessica. Every month we
would go to visit her and she would pack up 10 - 12 frozen meals. It was so thoughtful because I had very little money, and took a lot of time and thought.

When my dad owned my company he would give every employee a $50 meijer gift card as a christmas bonus, I believe last year it was even more than $50. But now that we were bought out by someone else I doubt we'll get it this year.
