Question for you all, i am on Salary, and my boss wants to cut me down to 4 days a week, is he allowed to do this if i am salary? I'm so pissed right now, and what is going to happend to my insurance?

A lot of companies consider 32 hours full time - so maybe your insurance will be ok. I'm sorry to hear that you have to go through this.

I'm confused! Is he cutting your pay or just your hours or what? I've never seen a salaried employee get OT. I think they can absolutely cut you to whatever they want.
I hope you get everything worked out. Keep us posted.

There are salaried exempt and salaried non-exempt. Salaried non-exempt are paid overtime. I don't know if that's a state thing, or federal, or what. As far as reducing the hours of salary people and thus reducing their pay, I'm no help here. I never heard of anyone doing this. Salary usually means there is a base that you are paid no matter what unless you take leave without pay.
As far as benefits, companies may have some leeway here, but it's my understanding that anyone who works over 29 hours is elegible for benefits. Some companies offer them to workers who work less, but I think 30 hours per week means you get benefits.
You need to talk with an HR associate to get the straight scoop on this for your area.
Are you a union worker? I know unions have contracts that allow things to be done differently.

Oh Haley, I'm so sorry you are going through this. It's really tough out there and getting worse. I'd talk to all my work related resources (Boss, Human Resource Personnel) and not leave a stone unturned until I got some answers and hopefully in writing. When you got hired, didn't they give you a booklet with work rules/regulations and insurance information?..you know an Employee Handbook.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, that everything will work out okay.

Sandy its confusing, cause the guys here are union so they are hourly, and the office people are salary with ot... they had to separate the two cause of the union guys. so i guess you can say we are salary non -exempt with overtime.

Marlyn, i talked to my boss this morning he don't know whats going on yet with me, cause you are right i get a base salary per pay based on the year not what i worked, so i don't know how there going to cut my hours yet... i get paid twic a month the 15 and the end of the month and my salary hours are always 86.67, so i don't know what there doing with me yet. i really don't think they can cut me, and if they do it's going to be a nightmare, i paid all of our insurances and everything out of my pay, and am i going to lose my holidays too - im so pissed right now i could scream!!!!
