We got lots of snow Thurs. and Fri. We got about a foot altogether, but we have all managed okay with it. Today the sun is shining and it looks so pretty out, but it's COLD!

I had a tough week. I was sitting in the floor playing fetch with one of my yorkies, and he was getting over excited. I raised the toy out of his reach and told him to sit. I was trying to get him to calm down a little bit. He lunged up after the toy and bumped my mouth really hard and knocked one of my front teeth out! He's almost 7 lbs., and he is VERY sturdy and STRONG. So, I went in search of a new dentist because my husband's company just changed dental insurance companies Oct. 1. I have a list of dentists to go by, and of course, my usual dentist isn't on it. I finally found one and saw her on Friday. I am TERRIFIED of dentists - have had some bad experiences. This woman is very very nice, and she actually made me feel relaxed.

Since I have Crohn's Disease, I have had to take Prednisone on and off ALOT over the years in mega doses. Unfortunately, it has really affected my bones and teeth. I have several cracked ones in the back, and I think they are more brittle - hence why such a small dog could knock one out. This dentist took alot of time to talk to me, ease my fears, promise me the minimal amount of pain possible, and we both decided that it would be better to get dentures since alot of my problems are caused by poor nutrition over the years (as well as the steroids) and many other issues that are caused by Crohn's. She put me on antibiotics as a precaution, since this disease is an autoimmune one. I go back on Monday to start having my teeth pulled, several at a time. I'm not looking forward to it, but I feel it's the best option.

Sorry to go on and on....it's just such a relief to find a dentist that I'm not afraid of! lol

So, after a bad week, the weekend was great. My kids and 2 of my grandchildren were here Friday for dinner, and then we played cards and just had alot of fun. They came over to cheer me up. I love my kids, they are awesome!

In spite of the weather, I've really enjoyed my weekend. I'm feeling so much better lately. I hope it lasts!!!

(I just hope I will feel like eating at least a little bit on Thanksgiving without too much mouth pain)

I hope everyone else is having a good weekend too!:)

Where are you at, Nina, to be getting snow already? You must live in the north somewhere.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having problems with your teeth but it sounds like you found a dentist that is willing to help you with your problems with them. She sounds like she'll be as gentle as possible. I don't like dentists either because when I was little we went to an old dentist that was trained in the arm and gentleness wasn't in his vocabulary!!!

I have friends that have just gone through a lot with their 13 year old son and he was finally diagnosed with Crohn's. It was a very difficult time for them. It sounds like you've somewhat got yours under control.

It sounds like you had a really good time with your family while they were there. It's so good that they came over to cheer you up.

You'll have to keep us posted on how your dental plans are going. Gina, who's on here too, has been going through a lot with her teeth too. You two will have to chat about it.

I'm glad you found a dentist you like. I've been having my teeth done for about 11 years now (at NYU which is a learning dental facility). It's great that you have coverage. I hope you have very little pain.

Chrons disease is difficult. It sounds like you know how to deal with it, but I'm sorry you have to. My daughter has MS, another autoimmune disease. You really do have to take care of yourself.

Stay calm and we're here for you Nina.

Nina..I understand completely your fear of dentists. I am so afraid of them too. I do have a nice one that makes sure I feel no pain.

I'm glad you had a great weekend and hopefully if you don't care for the snow...it will melt quickly.

Hi Nina,

I am sorry to read what you are going through with your teeth and that you have Crohns disease . One word of support, don't be afraid I like Judy have been through a lot with my teeth. Recently I had several extractions, six implants, bone grating and sinus lifts and I did not feel a thing.. Except in my pocket. lol I am eating mush and soft foods at the moment but hopefully in a few mts. I will have that million dollar smile...lol..

Please feel free to ask me any questions, I to was very afraid of the dentist as a young girl and I ended up with bridges and caps later on. Nina find a good dentist who understands your fears and trust me it is not so bad the work. I wish I can go back in time for I would have taken care of my teeth if I knew what was in store.. I spent thousands of dollars over the years and still am.

Teeth are so important take care of the infections if you have any for they will affect your health. PM me anytime..Good luck.

As far as the weather it is cold here in the NorthEast we having been having cold weather in 20's to 30's.

Sorry you are having dental problems! I have to get one tooth capped and the filling replaced in another - in December - not looking forward to it either!

The weather here is wonderful. We had a cold front last week and it got down to the 30's at night, but in the 60's during the say. This weekend it has been warmer - 75 today!! It is cloudy though. I think we have a chance for rain almost everyday, but we need it.

I had a nice weekend - got my Thanksgiving shopping done. I went to a college women's basketball game today with my mom and granddaughter!

Diana, I live in Ohio. I'm sorry about your friends' 13-year-old son being diagnosed with Crohn's. It's so hard for a child. I was diagnosed at 19, but I think I've had it all my life. It is somewhat under control now, but I've had a really hard time the last several years, and now my dr. won't let me work anymore. I'm having a hard time with that one!

Thanks everyone! It went well at the dentist today. She pulled four front teeth, and I didn't feel one bit of pain. I actually felt relaxed while she was working on me. I really like her, she's so nice and doesn't like to inflict pain. Even the novacaine shots were fine because she used a topical numbing gel first.

I'm not feeling too bad and was able to eat some soup and half of a grilled cheese sandwich. I have just been taking it easy today and napping off and on. I have only taken one of the pain pills she gave me so far, so it hasn't been as bad as I expected. I go back on Monday to have stitches removed. I can't wait until this is all over! It will be worth it in the end.:)

Seeee Nina I told you that it wouldn't hurt.. :) I hope you kept ice on it for 10 min on 10 off until you go to bed. That really helps with the swelling. Are you having denture put in? or are you doing implants? If you do dentures some dentists put it in at the same time so you do not walk around with no teeth. I had loaded implants and have temps put in the same day. It sounds awful but it really wasn't . When I had the first extractions my dentist gave me a flipper that day. I just hated it for I had to sleep with it and so on. It was a waste of money for he made me get loaded implants a month later.

Glad that is over for you. Think of your nice smile down the road.

Yep, I put ice on it. I haven't had any swelling and everything looks like it is healing well. I haven't had any pain, just soreness. I hope all my extractions go this well. It hasn't been as bad as I thought.

I am having dentures put in. Unfortunately, since this was an accident (got a tooth broken while playing with one of my yorkies), there was no time to get the dentures done. So, she xrayed my whole mouth with different instruments that put a read-out on the computer with measurements and all that. Very high tech! lol She will be able to make my dentures from that. I had a choice to let her pull them several at a time or go to an oral surgeon and get them all pulled at once. But, since I like her so well I opted to let her do it. I have never been to a dentist like her. She is just so nice and really takes the time to help you get over any fears. Fortunately, you can't really tell when I talk....just if I smile or laugh. So, I cover my mouth for that lol. She will do the rest of the top and then I'll get the top dentures. Then, she will start on the bottom.

It will all be worth it in the end!

Me too! She actually called today to see how I'm doing. She wanted to make sure I'm ok before the holiday. I told her I'm doing well. She told me to take it easy and not overdo for Thanksgiving lol

Judy, is your daughter on any kind of medication for her MS? I had a big scare with that. I was on a medication for Crohn's which I had been taking for a few years. I started having weird symptoms, like my balance was off, my legs felt heavy and I had a hard time walking, and I kept getting pulled over by the police for weaving. I went to my dr., and he sent me to a neurologist. They did some testing and said I had MS. I was devastated, as I couldn't imagine how I was going to manage with two illnesses.

I was taken off the medication because it didn't seem to be controlling my Crohn's anymore, and a couple months later my symptoms disappeared. I mentioned it to the dr., and he did some testing and decided that I don't actually have MS. What was happening was that the medication was causing symptoms of MS, along with some scarring on my brain which he said might reverse since I'm off the medication.

I haven't had anymore symptoms, but my balance still isn't completely right. I hope your daughter is able to manage her MS. I know how hard it can be because my son-in-law's aunt has it and my ex-supervisor has it. It can be scary at times. I will keep her in my prayers.

Sorry to hear about your tough week. My finace's uncle has Crohn's disease so I am sort of familiar with the disease... hope you are feeling better today ;)

It's been really cold here, and plans for this weekend are simply to RELAX now that Thanksgiving and booking the DJ will officially be put behind me lol

Enjoy your bird everyone
