Awesome Sausage, Apple & Cranberry Stuffing (that's the actual title - it is good though)

1 1/2 cups cubed whole wheat bread - toasted in oven (or dried overnight)
3 3/4 cups cubed white bread - toasted in oven (or dried overnight)
1 lb ground sausage
1 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup celery
2 1/2 tsp dried sage
1 1/2 tst dried rosemary
1/2 tsp thyme
1 green apple
3/4 cup dried cranberries
1/3 cup fresh parsley
1 1/2 cup chicken or turkey stock
4 T. melted butter

put dried bread in a large bowl. Brown sausage, onion, and celery in skillet. Add sage, rosemary and thyme and cook for two more minutes, to release the herbs. I use fresh herbs and you just double the amount if using fresh. Pour sausage mix over the bread. Mix in apple, dried cranberries and fresh parsley. Pour in stock till very moist. I actually use more than called for above because we like moist dressing. You can stuff the turkey or cook in greased pan in the oven at 350 for 30-45 minutes. My family loves this dressing and there were rave reviews for it on the internet when I found it last year. Oh, I use some cornbread too (probably 1/2 and 1/2) - as we prefer both bread and cornbread in our dressing.

I just made it for tomorrow and OF COURSE, I had to sample some. I wouldn't want to serve anything that wasn't GOOD. In fact, I might have to check it again before I go to bed to be sure it is still good! :D

LOLOL...I'm so sorry Gayle, but I'm sticking with my stuffing/dressing. I don't know how I got so darn fat being such a picky eater...LOL. I don't like any kind of cooked apple and there is just no way I'll eat cranberries. Wonder if it would be any good if I left those two items out????

If they ever made chocolate, pizza and potatoes obsolete....I'd just plain die....LOLOL

That sounds really good, Gayle!!! I'm not sure about apples and cranberries in my stuffing either but I may have to try it for Christmas just to be different!!!! Thanks!!!

I'm just seeing this now - I think I'll try it out, and if it comes out well I'll make it for Christmas.
